Job Hunting @ MindSay
...is the biggest mistake one can make."
-me. just thought it up. haha.
ANYWAYS!! my teacher, one of my favorite teachers, actually, is selling a car!
1998 monte carlo.
53 thousand miles.
good gas mileage.
a goldish color? i haven't actually seen it yet.
and get this: 2500$ - 2800$!!
that is a good deal!
like i said i haven't even seen it yet...but i know i want it.
there's automatic locks...not like this little red car i had to drive for a while.
there's a tape deck...for my ipod!
the heat actually works.
it's in super good condition.
aaahhhh i want it i want it i want it!!!
but, here's the issue.
i don't exactly have 2500 dollars laying around, and neither does my family.
but, here's the solution.
get a job! ha. i always told myself that i would never become part of the working class until i absolutely have to...but i think this is a good enough excuse? oh well. i'm getting a job anyways.
i've already sent in applications to three places today.
1- at a gas station...eh. cashier though, definitely a good first job.
2- my first thought was that i could like, wash dishes or something. but being a busser is like the same thing.
i've put in an application at one of the casinos in my town..and there's like three restaurants i could work at that would take me if i get that job. i could work with my friend elaine! :)
3- another is at this family restaurant...they say they don't need any help right now, but maybe in February? they also said they don't hire girls to be bussers..so she put down hostess instead. i could do that, except the dressing nice thing..eh? it's not too nice though, it's a family restaurant mayne.
4- i'm thinking i could apply to some more places. my mom says starbucks is good..but SO many people apply there it's ridiculous. my friend says i could be a hostess at a basque restaurant her family basically owns. that'd be cool but they don't need help right now. i really think that washing dishes would be so horrible, but way easy. like i could just go and wash dishes for a couple hours a day and that's fine. no major work involved...it's just gross.
oh well. i hope i get something though. i was talking to someone at the gas station today and i asked if i had to be 18 to work there...they sell ciggarrettes. (sp?) he said he didn't know and the boss would have to see. probably not though, like i'm going to steal them? nastay shitt.
all in all: i'm seriously job hunting. like, SERIOUSLY.
i'm going to tell my teacher when we get back to school to save that car for me.
he better...i'll have two classes with him when the semester rolls around!
i'm so excited. =]
End of the Year IsPrime for Job HuntingRobert McCauley, Robert Half International According to conventional wisdom, there's no worse time to search for a job than when the year is winding down. But sometimes conventional wisdom isn't entirely accurate. The truth is that the end of the year may be the best time to find a new job. Here are five reasons: 1. You face less competition. Buying into popular theory, many job seekers halt their quests for employment in November and December, choosing to save their efforts for when the calendar changes. But take a glimpse at the want ads, and you'll see that employers haven't stopped looking for talent. With fewer candidates vying for the same number of positions, you may have an edge over the competition, unlike no other time during the year. 2. More employers are hiring. Many firms, especially retail companies, increase their hiring efforts in winter to meet rising demand for their products and services. Even though seasonal jobs are often temporary, many hiring managers view these positions as extended, on-the-job interviews and offer full-time employment to promising hires. 3. Companies have budget surpluses. Some employers hire new workers at the end of the year because they have not yet used all of the funds they set aside earlier for adding new personnel. If the hiring managers don't increase headcount during the final two months, they may lose that portion of their budgets and be unable to bring aboard new employees at all. 4. It may be easier to secure an interview. Things often slow down at the end of the year due to vacations and the winter holidays. As a result, hiring managers may be less busy than usual and have more time to review your resume or call you in for an employment interview. 5. You'll get a jump on things. Even if some firms wait until the beginning of the year to add headcount, that doesn't mean they've stopped collecting resumes and considering candidates. By submitting your application materials now, you'll be first in line when the hiring process gets in full swing again. As 2007 comes to a close, remember that employers are always on the lookout for strong professionals, especially in fields such as accounting and finance and information technology, where skilled workers are in short supply. That means there's no wrong time to look for your next job, no matter what conventional wisdom says |

. Employer's response:......
Dear Fran,
It's OK honey, we've got spell check
Here's a shot that typifies the depths of winter - it's finally looking as it should in our little neighbourhood;
Snow - Storming! Blustery and Wintery, just as it should be!
We do need some of this weather, even though it's not pleasant to be out and about in or drive long distances in, this is the sort of weather that is normal at this time of year. Far more normal than this shot - taken just three weeks before;
An Unusual January In Our Enchanted Garden
The above shot impressed me, in that the various textures came through so nicely. This same section of our little meadow is now snuggled down in a fluffy duvet of snow. I might be able to get an updated shot in about an hour if the light is right - we'll see!
My "creme de la creme" was this shot of a black capped chickadee, a shot that has only taken me about a year to get!
Chickadee - dee - dee!
Photography, just like job hunting, can be a real exercise in patience and persistence. Chickadees are tiny birds that flit about quickly from place to place and they seldom sit still long enough to bring them into proper focus, let alone give time to adjust the camera's exposure and shutter speed settings! I've snapped photo upon photo of them that were only dumped into the desktop trashbin - so I'm thrilled to finally have one suitable for sharing! Sure hope you enjoy, as much as I enjoyed getting it!
Perhaps this little achievement is an indication of things to come? While writing this blog I got a call from one of the agencies I'm registered with and have another "one day" assignment for the end of next week. Other things are brewing... my fingers are crossed that the "right" thing comes up that satisfies everyone's desires in the same magical way that little black-capped chickadee satisfied my desire to capture an image so sweet!
Magic, in the garden, presents itself again, my spirit is refreshed and reassured! And I am most grateful for that!
I have now entered 'the next phase' of unemployment. Five days a week i am to attend job training, spending 4 hours a day with job hunting, group and individual workshops as well as an additional 4 hours a day of outside job hunting, which you do in your own time. It feels incredibly demeaning, and it's not as though for the past five months i've been sitting back and waiting for jobs to come to me. *Sighs*
They don't want me to go on this youth camp next week because it's voluntary. Well, i look forward to it all the more. One week by the beach sleeping in tents, doing water activities and lots of devotion time. I need it.
