Jack Bauer @ MindSay

24 is Back!

Last week I was on the brink of abandoning 24 if things didn't improve quickly.  Last night, the show totally got me back into it, by avoiding (for the most part) unneccessary sub-plots, making some clever twists and turns, and of course - including lots of edge-of-your-seat action.

So I totally misread last week's preview - I thought the that the kidnapping of Jack was to try to force him to detonate the nuclear weapons, but turns out it was Morris from CTU they were after, and that won't really happen until at least next week.  As it turns out, Jack's father is an even bigger villian than his brother, which, was sort of easy to guess after dad said "I need five minutes" at the end of the show, but was compelling nonetheless, especially when he killed Jack's brother in the closed room.  The only part of that plot line that didn't make sense was that at the start of the show, if dad was actually in on the plan, then why didn't he just let them shoot Jack in the back of the head?  Dad was the one that made the first move in escaping that situation, which doesn't make sense if dad and Graham wanted Jack dead.

My only gripe from last night is I'm getting annoyed with President Palmer.  He's essentially just like the President last year - a flip flopper that's not confident in any of his decisions.  And a President with such a trendy goatee?  C'mon!  The producers also seem intent on making a statement about the Patriot Act - although who knows, perhaps President Palmer not tightening up his domestic policies could lead to more terrorism - the show is on a News Corp network after all ...

Anyways, last night improved my grade for season 6 to a B+ and I'm once again looking forward to next week's episode.

Mohammedan-Amer... Fear “24”

Jack Bauer is a fictional new John Wayne. I love it that the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) feels victimized by the “24 character. CAIR has ties to Radical Mohammedan Terrorists like Hamas and receives support from Wahhabi sect Sunni Mohammedans from Saudi Arabia. Osama Bin Laden is a Wahhabi.

Go Jack Bauer!

The Following Takes Place...
I have yet to see last night's 2-hour premiere of "24".  As such, I will be staying away from the internets in an attempt to not read spoilers.  That means I need to stay away from Mindsay, just in case.  I've been spoiled to plot points for shows in some of the strangest places over the years.

See everyone tomorrow.  ;)

24
DAMN YOU SHINY !!!

You made me watch the first 4 hours of 24.  (OK - so I agreed to it because I like the show.) And I made you wait a few more days so that we could do it on a slow TV night.  AND NOW I understand why you were so freaked out about it and the one big OH MY GOSH moment. AND THEN THERE WAS ANOTHER F-ING OH MY GOSH MOMENT!!!  And I still can't talk about it until Tuesday when everyone else sees it.  HOLY SCHNIKEES!

Of course I'm still holding out for when "the Ricker" arrives on the scene.

This is such a great show.

Jack Bauer's gonna kick some tail...
Well, I've gone ahead and watched the first four hours of this season of "24" which premieres next Sunday evening.  (Gotta love the Internets and the manner in which these things get leaked.) So far it's quite intense (not surprising in the least). It looks like it will be, yet again, another amazing season chronicling a day in the life of CTU's Jack Bauer.

I've decided not to spoil any of the plot or storyline -- but I do want to let you know a few things:

* In past seasons, there's some event / crisis which kicks off at the beginning of the day which catalyzes subsequent events. This year it's a bit different:  the crisis has been ongoing for quite a while already, and we're just thrown right into the middle of it. I like the way they've done this.

* This season, the day begins at 6am and goes until 6am.  This, of course, is Los Angeles time; there are a lot of cutbacks to Washington, DC where the president happens to be.

* I wouldn't really count this as a spoiler because it's pretty much common knowledge as it is -- but I'll still mask the text in white-on-white for those of you who don't want to read it.  The president is Wayne Palmer, brother of the late-President David Palmer who was assassinated at the beginning of last season. There are quite a few interiors of the Oval Office, and you can see photos of the Palmer brothers together.  Hey -- speaking of the family Palmer, Regina King plays Sandra Palmer -- David and Wayne's sister. She has a pretty substantial role.

* So far I've seen great performances by Peter MacNicol (John Cage on Ally McBeal, Larry Fleinhardt on Numb3rs, and Janozh Poha in Ghostbusters II) and Kal Penn (from both Van Wilder films as Taj Mahal; and Kumar in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle).  Both of them completely depart from their comedic roles to play it serious -- and they both do a fantastic job of it. Scott William Winters' role is a small one, but he delivers well as usual.

* Chloe O'Brian at CTU is such a whore. I'll leave it at that.  Let's just be glad that Edgar Stiles isn't around to judge her...

* The first two hours will certainly have people talking on Monday morning. But after seeing hours 3 and 4 the next night, I can guarantee that people will be even more blown away.

Enjoy the show. I'll be back to talk about it next week. :)
