It's probably a good thing that I do the majority of my blog posting in the morning. While there might be many things in my head in the morning, I'm the only one in there having the thoughts. Wow - that sounded like I have multiple personalities. I don't. Allow me to rephrase and try that all again.
It's probably a good thing that I do the majority of my blog posting in the morning. When I write my posts early in the day before reading much of anything else the posts are in my voice, if you will. I find that if I read other blogs by some seriously talented writers (
dooce,
Tycho,
Kevin Smith, or
[GM]Dave), I end up thinking in their style of writing. Their mannerisms, their pauses, and their choice of words infiltrate my mind and I start coming up with my own blog posts, but they mimic how they write.
I get the same way when I read a book by a great writer. Reading a novel by a writer such as Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, or Douglas Adams changes the way I think. For the next hour or so after I finish a reading session, I find my mind describing everything around me as if I was still reading the book; except now it's a book about what I'm doing and thinking that minute. My inner voice starts to speak in the style of the writer I just finished reading.
When I blog early in the day you get my mind and my style. It hasn't yet been influenced by other great writers. Your loss, I guess.
