When Inspiration Hits

Just like all my other inspirations, the one that came to me last night was quite sudden. Like flipping a light switch.

A while back, I had bought an artist set complete with brushes, oil paints, and even an easal (sp?). Now, my artistic experience lies heavily in drawing. I can count on one hand how many times I have painted before, and each time involved acrylic paints and a cheap cardboard-backed canvas. This time, I had oil paints and a for real wooden-framed canvas! Yay!

As soon as the inspiration hit me, I knew that I should give into it before it could leave me. So, I set to work and let my hand do whatever it willed. It was a little scary at first. You see, I'm a perfectionist, so I was afriad of messing up what I had in mind. But I forced myself to disconnect from that and just paint. Oh! It was lots of fun! I am not finished yet, but when it is complete I will post a picture of it. It felt so good to give into my inspriation!

So, I want to know. What do you do when inspiration hits? What does it feel like and what happens when you do or do not give into it? Oh, and what do you find inspiring? Such a good topic that could take you anywhere! Tell me what you think!

And although i dont know who wrote this quote it makes me rethink my views on the world.. i like this quote  Smiley

May you find serenity and tranquility in a world you may not always understand. May the pain you have known and the conflict you have experienced give you the strength to walk through life facing each new situation with courage and optimism. Always know that there are those whose love and understanding will always be there, even when you feel most alone. May you discover enough goodness in others to believe in a world of peace. May a kind word, a reassuring touch, and a warm smile be yours every day of your life, and may you give these gifts as well as receive them. Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending. Teach love to those who hate, and let that love embrace you as you go out into the world. May the teachings of those you admire become part of you, so that you may call upon them. Remember, those whose lives you have touched and whose have touched yours are always a part of you, even if the encounters were less than you would have wished. It is the content of the encounter that is more important than the form. May you not become too concerned with material matters, but instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart. Find time each day to see beauty and love in the world around you. Realize that each person has limitless abilities, but each of us is different in our own way. What you feel you lack in the present may become one of your strengths in the future. May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility. Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience. May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by yourself, and not be dependent on another's judgment of your accomplishments. May you always feel loved. Unknown.

The wooden bowl

The Wooden Bowl

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something about grandfather," said the son. I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather's direction, he had a tear in his eye as he ate alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up."

He Has It All...
I'm listening through all of TheRacket's podcasts called TheRuckus. Really, you must listen at least once. I personally assure you, you will at the very least find one song you haven't heard and you will like.

Personal faves: (God. I'm going to try to not list all the shows...)
  • [Altoiditive] (for obvious reasons I suppose; WTF Radio is mentioned and "given" a song but I also like it because it was the first TheRuckus, if I recall correctly.)
  • [Aquatica] (the first song and the third song blow me out of the ... pardon me... water.)
  • [Storytime] (I love storytelling songs... particularly I Married A Magician)
  • [Trip Around the World]
  • [Six Degrees] (!!!)
  • [Hope] I like collaboratives.
While I was listening, I was doodling (dare I use that term for what I created? Perhaps "experimenting"?) until I could get online. (Our internet provider is currently on my Not Favorite Things list.) It was well worth the time it took to create the image below. It felt more meaningful to create the image while listening to a friend do what he does so well. Sharing.

This guy is my hero.
This guy is my hero.
Angelo d'Arrigo.   He flew a hang glider over the tallest mountain in the world.

"It was incredible to be flying over the highest mountain on earth in a hang-glider. Of course, at that moment there was a lot of tension and concentration, and so I didn’t have much time for philosophical reflection!"

Watch the video.
