Back to the Notebook
If my attempts at poetry have any common theme - and they probably do - it seems to be that the narrator is a hard-luck type, always uneasy about the way he is perceived or the way he sees the world.  What he loves doesn't always love him, and what loves him isn't always what he wants.  This is my ode to Toronto and my commuter lifestyle over the last year.  It got all my frustrations out onto the page (which is, at best, what I try to do when I pick up the pen.)  The first part came to me when I was half-asleep on the GO Train, and I was so abuzz once I started that once I got off I immediately went to a quiet coffee place (actually, a bustling mall) to finish it.  It's very Gregory Corso (or very 21st-cenutry-kid-who's-read-a-few-Corso-poems.)

This Whole Damn City
This whole damn city wants me out of it.
The weather wants me out, anxious drivers on St. George want me out,
Long lines at the TTC stations want me out,
Man on the corner on his cell phone wants me out, and all the other pedestrians, too.

My textbooks and homework forgotten at home, want me out.
The other students in my 9:00 class want me out (I talk in my sleep.)
All the goddamn paperwork the bureaucrats can muster wants me out.

My train, late again, wants me out.
My ticket, which I neglected to punch twice, wants me out.
Businessmen and women want me out, more room for them.

Pretty girls who don't talk to me want me out.
Ones that do make it dangerous to stay.
Their boyfriends want my eyeballs gone, want to pull my tongue out.

The skyscrapers want me out.
Rogers Center wants me out, but also wants to be SkyDome again, and to feel the Jays
win one more series.
Michael Lee-Chin's Crystal, hanging precariously over Bloor, wants me out
(of its proud dangerous shadow.)

This city will not stand for my indecision, and will share nobody.
If I cannot live and love here, I must not stay.
If it wanted me forever, I would not return.

Question for my Friends with Ink

The tattoo that I got two years ago is already fading.  I keep it covered up because it's on my shoulder, plus I avoid the sun like the plague.  Why is it fading already?  I know I should get it touched up every once in a while, but is this unusual?  Do tats on dark skin fade faster?

Nothing like a new toy to start up some "art". I went out today and spent some money [that I don't have] on these toys [that I don't need]. I bought a beautiful leather sketchbook with amazing recycled cream colored paper and walnut ink. If only I could post the smell of these new things. I love the organic warm feel of walnut ink. I made two sketches with it so far, those awful warped hands and a self portrait, I always butcher my nose for some reason. It does bleed through the page more than I thought it would so I guess I'll have to just work on one side... we'll see. I think I'm going to try and use a brush to do larger portions of color so I can shade some more.

I discovered a new artist today, or rather I learned the name of the artist I've admired for a month or so already. His name is Yoav and we have been playing his CD Charmed & Strange in the store for a while and every time the song Club Thing comes on I think, "man I've got to find out who that is!" He's amazing check him out... maybe I'll post his video it's sort of awesome as well.

Entry 18. [Annoyed] --- So sick of Textiles.

Dixie currently feels:

Annoyed Smiley

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So sick of PVA glue.

So sick of staining my hands pink with drawing ink.

So sick of fabric paint all over my arms.

So sick of crepe paper getting all mushy under the glue.

So sick of cutting fabrics, glueing them down in random patterns and calling it art.

I FUCKING HATE TEXTILES!!!!!!!

Today we had a 3 hour exam preperation, where we did nothing for 3 hours but sit, paint in our sketchbooks and annotate random shite about and around random shite.

Tomorrow I have another 3 hours of Textiles, only we're starting the real exam.

And that's 3 hours of TEN.

...Argh, you know.

I'm a decent drawer, I'm a decent artist - I just CAN'T BE ARSED WITH TEXTILES.

It's one of my courses I may even come close to failing.

And I won't give a shit, to be frank.

Fuck Art & Design Textiles.

Digital Engraver VS Stick On Labels

When using stick on labels, which many of us who produce our own CD's do, a few things need to be taken into consideration. First off, how well are the labels sticking on the CD's. I noticed that on a few of the CD's I had made and put the stick-on labels on, were actually getting stuck in the CD player. The CD's were easy enough to get out with a little effert and a thin tool, but it concened me as to the effect it was having on the CD player itsself. Not to mention I didn't want people who had purchased my CD to have the problem and not wanting to go through the hassle of removing the CD and there for make the decision not to play it.

I have been looking into the possibility of purchasing a Digital Engraver for my music CD's. I have found several that I think may be suitable, but as yet have not made a decision. There are some where you type in the words to appear on the CD and that is it. There are others that actually require ink and will color the CD and make designs and logo's as well.  Of course the latter is more expensive. Then of course to help on the cost, you could purchase a colored CD and then just print the information on the CD. The problem with this is that I believe there is a maximum of information (characters) that can be put on the CD which may limit the ideas you have.

I have looked on ebay and did find both sorts of laser and ink engravers available but with such a purchase would want some sort of guarantee and for the product to be in an unopened box. Then again, purchasing from a store would ensure hassle free return should the product not work as I think it should. I am still looking into the possibility of purchasing either a laser or ink engraver and will let you know what I decide. If anyone has either one of these products I would appreciate a review on it.
