Alam ng bawat Pilipino ang salitang People Power. They value this four-syllabic word and sing the National Anthem. Mahalaga ito sa taong bayan na kung saan libo-libong mga Pilipino ang nagmartsa sa EDSA patungong Malacanang para patalsikin si Marcos. Walang dumanak na dugo sa rebolusyong ito. Guess what, Marcos was ousted.
After Fidel V. Ramos' regime, Estrada stepped in. The dollar that FVR maintained very well rose up to 56 pesos or higher. Investors were scared to invest. Nagkaroon ng maraming problema ang bansa. Dagdag pa rito ang pagnanakaw raw ni Estrada ng sangkatutak na pera. Hayun, nagmartsa ang opposisyon -- People Power II. Walang dumanak na dugo sa rebolusyong ito. Guess what, Estrada was ousted.
With Estrada out of power, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo took over. May 1, 2001 a large mass of people marched to Malacanang, but they didn't get there. Instead they were met with bullets, and barbed wires and riot sticks and brutal repression. Dito dumanak ang dugo.
Kapansin pansin na halos mahihirap ang nagrebolusyon. May mga nagsasabing nabayaran lang sila para magamit ito ng oposisyon. But wait, hindi bumitaw si PGMA.
Today, people are massing together to form a somewhat another People Power to oust Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Why? It's because of the "wire-tapped conversation" of the President and COMELEC commissioner Garcillano unveiling that PGMA stole the election. The issue elevated the opposition to rally -- and rally some more.
Now I ask you, kung magkakaroon ulit ng People Power, magiging maayos ba ito o magiging magulo gaya ng PPIII? Since pareho rin naman ang magmamartsa sa EDSA. Why pareho? They never ousted Gloria, and they want her out -- again.
People Power is a revolution. What's unique about this revolution is because of:
A. It's a peaceful revolution.
B. No blood that dripped on the canvas.
C. The People got what they need.
Now I ask you, what is so great about People Power III? Can we even call it People Power III? Note that EDSA III or PPIII does not satisfy any of the above. But instead we can call it "a bloody revolution", because it qualifies better with the ordinary type of revolution, brutal and bloody.
Okay since the people behind EDSA III will also be the people behind the fourth coming EDSA Revolution, I'll ask you again? Will there be another revolution that satisfies all the characteristics of our honored revolution? Will there be another People Power?
