Anyway...
Have I ever mentioned that I hate hotels? If I haven't then -NEWS: FLASH- I hate hotels. I don't care how "clean" they appear they are still disgusting. I'm afraid of every surface. People germs. Eww. And the wrongI kind of people germs, if you know what I mean. We all know what people do in hotels. Well, I know what I do in hotels (ahem!) and if I were a guest staying in a room after me knowing what I've done... then you couldn't get me to enter the hotel let alone sleep in the bed!! Right now I'm sitting on the AC in the corner. The air is blowing on my legs but it's the lesser of two evils. I figure if people happened to do the nasty in here this would be the most awkward place to do it. It would be hard to cram themselves in here, let alone with company. Chances are this is clean. Ok. I don't need to think about people's nastiness germs.
Enough.
My mood of hotels was not improved this morning with discovery that I forgot my shampoo. I was going to steal Josh's but he apparently left his as well. Ugh. I was forced to use the hotel shampoo. Mint shampoo. Tell me, please, who uses mint shampoo? Mint? This is a new one to me. Now, instead of smelling like Herbal Essence Pin Straight Shampoo I smell something like a candy cane. It doesn't help that my rosy cheeks and white shirt help me to resemble one...
Well... I'm chatting it up on yahoo. I can't do two things at once so... Adios!!
Oh the things that go through my mind when I am worrying about something. What am I worried about...well school of course, it's about that time of year when I begin to relocate all those regular stresses, failing classes, not finding motivation all that jazz. So what did I divert my mind to, because obviously I try not to stress about school by thinking of something completely random to obsess about. Well today my obsession is the difference between a motel and a hotel...is there one, is it a significant differnce, or is it just one of those location things?
First my thoughts, note this is before the research, this is the part that is actually going through my head right now.
To me, a motel is the dive on the side of the road, the place that people go to to be anonymous, where they go when they don't have money, or where we go when we just don't give a damn. The motel is that creepy ass place you see in the corner of the highway when you are driving in the middle of nowhere. Then the hotel is that nice place where families stay when they are vacation, swimming pool round back, laundry mat on the first floor, maybe a personal gym, continental breakfast in the morning. My family travels a lot, and I like to think that we, for the most part, stay in hotels, but then again since I have no real defintion between a hotel and a motel I am going to have to say that the purpose of this rant is to find out if I frequently visit hotels or motels, and not in the dirty sleazy kind of way...I have no need for a motel, I have a room that works just fine for any extra activities I may want to partake in.
And with a little research light shines upon us, meaning I just looked up some quick definitions. If needed I will continue from this....
Motel: (this is what the first site had to say....personally I think it wasn't very helpful but here goes): Motels are roadside lodgings that are often quaint and privately owned, though motel chains also exist. One of the distinguishing features of a motel is that it is U-shaped or square, with an inner courtyard that serves as the parking lot.
After that I must say I am a big motel visitor...interesting indeed. Now for the other side.
Hotels are located in, or near, cities. The basic design of a motel differs significantly from hotels, where rooms face inward with doors opening to interior hallways.
Okay well now I am back to being stuck in between, I mean I've stayed at some crazy hotel/motels that kind of meet both criteria....what would a place that has an open courtyard but is located in the city be and it also serves breakfast and has a jacuzzi.
Or how about the place that has rooms opening to an interior hallway that is privately owned, and quaint and doesn't have breakfast or really anything but a bed and a bathroom.
Initial research from: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-a-hotel-and-a-motel.htm
I guess on with research:
Wow didn't think I would find a reasonable answer on only my second try, but I like this one, it makes sense so I am going to go with it.
And I quote:
"There really is none. The term “motel” is derived from the term "motor hotel," which originally meant that the hotel provided parking (circa 1950s). The term motel today generally is used for a "limited service" property (i.e., a hotel that provides a limited number of amenities and does not provide food service. "

So from that bit of information, I am going to have to say that I've stayed in quite a few more motels than hotels, and it kind of makes me feel dirty, but it's in one of those I am being silly a superficial kind of ways, so I am over it already and now I am moving on with my life. Hopefully my stress for tomorrow will be better.
"No REFUNDS"
ok.. some red flags going off. I asked the indian man..." May I see a room before we book Sir?"
Him: "Where are you from"
Me "HUH?" My face was probably laughable.
Him: "where you from? from??" I am still looking at him with my thoughts in a semi slumbered mile fogged state, thinking what the hell does that have to do with showing me a room you jerk?
Him: "traveling?" he turns his back to me. Mind you it is 10:30 pm. I have 12 hours under my belt of accumulated weariness that seems centered on my gluteus maximus!
Me: "yes, me and my husband, I would just like to see the room before we rent it from you, please"
Him: "No, I dont want to rent to you!"
Me: " I dont want to stay in your stinking scummy hotel!" Slammed the fragile screen door on the way out.
LAUGHS I got in the car laughing hysterically. I dont want to rent to you... can you believe that? There was only 2 cars in his stupid scank hotel and he doesnt want to rent to me.. He just knew that I would take one look at the room and say, no thank you!
Just boggled my mind, and it still makes me chuckle...but I did get to thinking about my own stinkin' thinkin... and how many times I get set in my ways, or know there are areas that I haven't kept up and would be ashamed to have a guest visit some recess of my mind or life or attitude about something and I put on the defensive and retort "I dont want to rent to you" and I miss great opportunities, whether they be to expand my thinking or share in a cup of coffee with someone. Whatever it may be. Right now, the largest stinkin thinkin on my part is where I live. I don't invite anyone over to this little apartment because I am embarassed by it. It's not like the large house we had with space to entertain or hang out on a large deck overlooking a tree ladened yard...and I have missed out on alot with my stinkin' thinkin, and need to change that, so my goal in the next week or so, is to invite someone over.
No more stinkin thinkin!
Love and Laughter,
Dawn
On Friday was my littlest sis's, byzantium high school graduation. She looked very pretty even though the gymnasium was sweltering.

I unfortunately didnt take many good pictures as I would have liked. She was avoiding me and hid when I would take her picture. When I did ask for one she would make faces so they wouldnt be nice. Oh well. :P So candid pictures were the way to go.
On Saturday Iverness63(Josh) drove up to Black River Falls again. We hit the antique store again and I purchased the hat and a few others. I will have to model them for you sometime. :) I also picked up an old early 1900s dress. On our way home we were both tired and so we stopped at a Microtel and spent the night. We ended up getting a suite and it was sweet! It had its own kitchen, windowseat and other nice amenities. It was like a small vacation.

One of my purchases.
On Sunday we stopped at State Street and did some shopping before heading home. I loved the hot weather!! We stopped into a greek restaurant and I had a pasta salad for lunch while Josh had a greek Pita Pizza. It was perfectly light and yummy. I picked up some great shirts, incense and a window glass. After that we hit the bookshops. There is an old bookshop on State Street. I picked up the book Falling Up by Shel Silverstein. When we got to the checkout the person behind the counter commented on how good of book it was. We agree of course. ;) But then he started telling how Shel Silverstein would come into this bookstore all the time in fact he showed us a signed reciept from him. How neato is that!!
Later that evening we met up with some friends and went to a race. It was a tournament distruction or something like that. I cannot seem to remember the name. But I may end up racing a car in it. :D Here are the pics from it.

Here are our friend's kids and how cute are these kids!? Suprisingly the baby slept throught he whole thing. It sure was loud too.

Josh, nanner and our friend watching them put bubbles onto the track.

Savannah cooling off.

A candid pic of me, Josh and our friend.

Some of the fireworks. What a nice display too.
Finally on Memorial Day I went to a birthday party for Josh's cousin. I met some of his family for the first time and was lucky enough to get a nice motorcycle ride too. I miss riding a motorcycle!
So those of you who stayed with me during this big post, thanks! :D
