Hot Day @ MindSay

Excuse my Hissy Fit Y'all

Damn you lactose intolerance!!!! Can't a sistah enjoy a nice cool smoothie on a hot damn day?  I thought well, I should be okay since I had breakfast earlier. Usually I can't have dairy if I don't have anything else in my stomach. I guess I was wrong! You don't get much worse than walking a huge assed campus with a sour stomach on hot day! Sacre Bleu!

Speaking of hot, it's friggin' October! Why are we still putting up with temperatures over 90 degrees?? I'm tired of not being able to touch the steering wheel when I get in the car.

My Crappy Day

Sacre bleu! I didn't mean to hit the enter button so many times! I must've really had a shitty day!

  • 95 degrees. With the heat index it feels like 102.  51% humidity.

  • I had a brand spanking new advisor. She did her best to help me and I really appreciated it.  However she got my hopes up when she said, "Let's look at your last 66 hours to see if you can get into grad school next semester."  She went downstairs and about 15 mins later she said, "Oops, I'm sorry.  Now the Masters program looks at your entire GPA, not just your last 66 hours. Oh, yeah, they are looking for a 3.0. It's going to take you a while to make that up." She told me it is a fairly new change because last year they only looked at your last 66 hours. Great! Just fan-FUCKING-tastic for me!  At least she signed the papers I needed for financial aid.  Now I'm looking to see if I can get into a graduate program at another school.

  • I had to walk wayyyyy on the other side of the campus to turn the papers in after I had them signed by the advisor because they decided to build a brand new "Welcome Center" on campus.  They moved the financial aid department to this new building.  I thought I would melt before I got there.

Here is an actual text message conversation I had with my friend during this ordeal:

Me:      95 degrees.  51% humidity.

Him:     Yuck! That sucks.

Me:      I'm so fucking hot!

Him:    It's MOIST even! (he does this really funny impression of Snagglepuss. He also knows I hate the word "moist")

Me:      I want to friggin' die!

Him:    Where are you?

Me:     Sweltering on the campus of U of H.  I would have never made it as a slave!

  • So now I'm stuck with more quick minute decisions to make.  I know I have to have some good luck coming soon! I just have to!

Mind Diversion - A Hot Day Of Caching
It was hot yesterday.  Very hot.  But I was not going to stay around the house another day .... I needed this escape.

As mentioned in a previous post, we are being smothered in smoke.  Fires are burning at this time pretty much all around so our day was planned to get away from the smoke if possible.  We decided to go South over the Trinity Alps and over to Weaverville.  Weaverville has always been a favorite place of mine.  Its a cool little community thats livelihood once depended on mining and logging.  Not much of either going on there now.  But there is still a working lumber mill for what little lumber passes through.

We had a total of eleven finds yesterday and two DNF's (did not find).  As I mentioned it was hot but at the price of gas I don't like to use the air conditioner so we just suffered.

First stop was the Bowerman Barn.  As the sign states this old barn has been here awhile.  They have it open to the public and it is totally cool.  It just amazes me that it still stands .... an awesome bit of history.

The inside was very cool but the pic's are dark so not posting.

The cache was hidden under an apple tree that was actually a cherry plum.  They were ripe and tasty.  I enjoyed my fair share.  The blackberries were starting to ripen as well and everywhere we went there were plenty to munch.  Yum!   Lady like pose I know .....

This was just down the road from the barn a bit.  Called the "Bowerman Barn Route" cache.

The "T.A.R." cache ..... Trinity Alps Resort ..... lots of big homes scattered about in here and also a ton of rental cabins that surround Trinity Lake.

The "Vista" cache .... the actual vista was down the road a piece .... I was so hot I just wanted to get in the car and move for the sake of blowing air.  So we did not walk to the vista.

The "Two Rocks" cache.  An easy find but a bit of a steep climb .... and I forgot my tennis shoes.  So I did my trekking  all day in my  flip flops.

"Big Bears Fishing Hole" cache.  Big Bear is out of Redding and is quite the fellow I guess.  Haven't met him yet but know others that have.  He hides plenty of caches for sure.

Another part of the fishing hole.

Yet more of the fishing hole.

Looking for "Big Bears Frustration" cache.

And not frustrated at all ...... I find the micro.

Monument at the "Trinity Damn Cache".

Trinity Lake and Trinity dam.  This lake was jam packed full of people.  Hard to tell by the picture here, but just about every square inch of vacant space had people in it.

Yes, I'm in there ..... looking for the dam cache (****snickers****) .... and I did not find it.  Believe that it's been muggled (stolen).

The entry sign to the Weaverville Wetlands.

Hot and wilted ..... the "Weaverville Wetlands" cache.  I'm only allowing myself one day a week to drink beer and that will be my caching day ...... so yesterday was cold beer and pizza.  Now no more till we go caching next week.  The beer is really showing in my thighs and stomach ..... and butt.  Time to chill.

"Mule City" cache.  At a Forest Service station on the lake.

I'm missing a couple pic's so I am assuming that I didn't copy them off the card.  So another day .... you'll just have to take my word for it.

It was a great day all in all.  Completely enjoyable even as hot as it was.  It was hard to come back over to the smokey valley.  Its one of those strange kind of orange tinted days outside and pretty warm once again.

Hoping everyone is have a good Monday ..... mine is being spent writing this post.  Now I'm off to check the garden (eat) and water if needed where needed.

Peace.  J.

The Unproductive Day.

Today, I went to the University of Houston's campus to work through some red tape.  I got an email that said the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid needed some extra information from me, but it didn't specify what it needed.  I decided to take the bus because 1) I hate driving on the freeway. 2) Gas prices are out of control and 3) I didn't want to pay for parking once I got there.

The bus ride there was okay, but the bus had to let me off about a half mile away from the campus. It would have been fine except that it was hotter than Africa today! Why did I have to wear those "cute" sandals? My frustration continued when I realized I didn't know where any building was!  I couldn't remember! I spent five years of my life on that damn campus and I couldn't find diddly! At one point I ended up making a full circle in the heat before I finally found the building I needed.  Once I got where I needed to be, I was of course told that I needed to go to another building to see an Academic Advisor and get some papers signed.  Once I got there, I was told I had to make an appointment and the first available was on Thursday at 10:00 AM. *sigh*

As I walked back to the bus stop, I noticed that it looked like it was going to rain. Of course I didn't bring my umbrella.  At least I made it to the bus stop before the torrential rains fell. On the way back, I sat with a woman and her four children.  One was her husband's from his previous marriage, the other was her daughter from her previous marriage and there were two boys that she and her husband had together. She had just come back from MD Anderson because she had to get radiation treatment. She was originally from Fort Worth and she gets treatment once a year in Houston. She was nice and her two boys were sweet.  Both of them told me they wanted to move to Houston and be in my class! LOL!

Basically, I got nothing done at the University today and I get to do it all over again on Thursday. At least I don't have to feel bad about not going to the gym today.  In other news...

The Chocolate Trifecta will bring the city of Houston to its knees in FOUR DAYS!

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!
