Hit And Run @ MindSay

Partial justice has already been done!

The cops ran the woman down at her house, and cited her for following too closely (not too bad) and then charged her for leaving the scene of the accident (hit and run, this is a very serious thing) so she has court for herself, without me being involved at all!

And today I received all the information from the cops and even from the lady who hit me, she sent it yesterday saying, "Oh I'm so sorry I hit your car, here's my phone number and my insurances number." :O

I feel kinda bad, but I'm still having her pay for my doctor's visit that I did today (got some awesome muscle relaxants that should help ease the pain in my neck, and help to ease the headaches also) my doctor said it could just be because of the stress of both accidents that I've been having migraine/headaches everyday since then.  I hope that's the case :)

And she's also paying for a new back cushion for underneath my bumper, but other than that, I think she'll be home free!

I still feel kinda bad about it, but I know that the lawyer that hit me at the beginning of the summer who still hasn't settled...is going to get the brunt of my anger XD

I Think I Watched A Guy Die Last Night...

Last night a few friends and I went downtown to visit one of the new bars that recently opened on Dauphin St. The place was packed but the atmosphere was suprisingly pleasant and we ended up staying much longer than we intended.

So at about 3:00am someone notices the time and we decide to head home, but not before some early morning breakfast at the Waffle House a few blocks down the road. It's a nice night and we're a little too drunk to drive so we walk the way instead, cutting through some parking lots to lessen the distance and the chances of one of us busting our asses on the asphalt. And that's when it happened...

We didn't see the actual accident; we only heard screeching tires and two loud thuds, no screams or anything. I guess the guy didn't even see it coming. It took a second or two for us to realise what had happened and by then the car was speeding away, too far gone to get a lisence plate #. I ran over to where the guy lay and dropped down on the pavement next to him, apparently quite roughly because my knees are pretty scraped up now, and tried to assess the situation. He was lying on his back and there was already blood pooled everywhere, coming from somewhere on his head. The fact that the only light we had came from a streetlamp down the road made it even harder to help, since I couldn't see the guy or his injuries well, and made it even more sureal for me. So I check for a pulse and found a very sporadic one, and the way the guy was breathing was not good either... irregular gasps with a gurgling sound in his throat, probably a punctured lung.

Meanwhile, as I'm attempting to help this guy, one of my friends is calling 911 and the other two are just freaking out and crying. It takes the cops forever to get there, and during this time the guy has some sort of seizure and then I can't hear him breathe anymore. Just as I was about to start CPR the cops show up and one takes over while the other questions us about what we saw. Of course, we weren't much help since we didn't see anything, all we could offer was that the car kinda looked like a late 80's Buick from the rear, and it was red. As we're talking to the cop the paramedics show up and they were all kneeled down around him when the cop told us we could go ahead and leave.

So by this time we're all completely sobered up, and we made the ride home in absolute silence. I got dropped off at my house and went to splash some cold water on my face, and it wasn't until I looked in the bathroom mirror that I realised I was covered in the guy's blood. I stood in the shower for an hour with the water so hot I could hardly stand it, and then I crawled into bed but I got no sleep. I couldn't help wondering what happened to the guy since they were still working on him when we left, but I'm sure he didn't make it. There's no way, not as messed up as he was.

So anyway, that's what I did last night, just thought I'd share. And no, I didn't take the guy's wallet like Germ pointed out that I should have. Germ if you're reading this, you're a shithead.

Whoops. Forget Something?

Normally, I woud not be awake and online after one o'clock in the morning on a weeknight.  But this apparently isn't a normal night.

This evening, I was over at Butch-n-Nellie's, working on my upcoming class.  I had a mocha.  And I forgot to ask for decaf.  Upon returning home, I read for about an hour, then went to bed, where I read for another half hour or so, until I started nodding off.  So I put the book away and shut off the light, and was soon asleep.

However, it didn't last long.  I woke not long thereafter, then tossed and turned for far too long.  I started to contemplate getting up, just because lying there not sleeping was driving me nuts.

It was around then that I heard an all-too-familiar sound in my neighborhood:  squealing tires and a revving engine.  Fuckin' tweeners around here are such assholes.  It's not uncommon for them to burn rubber down the empty streets in the post-midnight hours.

This time, however, the drag racing sounded different.  The squealing tires sounded more like a car swerving.  That doesn't sound good, I thought to myself, just before another sound filled the air: a nasty, unmistakable crunching of metal.  Followed immediately by a car alarm erupting.

The fucker had hit a parked car.

Then, more squealing tires as the son of a bitch took off.

Naturally, I got up.  Through my dining room window, I could see the flashing lights of the car with the alarm still sounding.  It was a solid hit, too, not a sideswipe... directly over the front driver's side corner of the car.  In short order, there were close to a dozen people gathered out there, flashlights out and cell phones open.

Tough break... hit and run.  The owner of this sleek red car was probably screwed.

Ah, but maybe not.  "Whoa!" I heard one of the guys below yell.  "The guy's license plate fell off!"  I chuckled as I saw him pick up the plate from the ground.  Very cool.  I doubt very much that anything would've come of this, otherwise.  But now...  busted by karma.
