The Baby Brother's Latest Song
I told my brother that I'd spread the word about his rap group, Brownback Camp's latest single.  This song is one of their more "let's party and chat up some women" songs, but it's still a fun song to dance to.  It's funny how each of the members of the group have their own style of rapping.   My brother's moniker is  J.B. da Poet and his style is more angst-y and philosophical (not on this song, though).

The song is called "TickleeNancy" and it comes from a phrase my father always says when he talks about a  good looking woman getting a lot of attention in the club.

It's bigger than...
From out the archives comes this here mix by me, DJ Maru AKA the Killerjunglist.

This was the first successful mix I ever made using software instead of turntables, so it may sound a little haphazard. Well, it sounds that way to me, but this one is a perennial favorite amongst my friends, so maybe I'm just being to critical on myself.

Description: Well, it's a mix of mostly old skool Hip-Hop with a few other little extras thrown in. I basically just took anything that sounded good and put it all together, so it's a little experimental. Honestly, I think pretty much all my stuff is experimental, but some more than others. Experimentally speaking, on a scale of 1 to 10, this one rates about a 4.

Enough about experiments! Here is what you came here to find out about!

Title: HipHop+
Music that goes for approximately one hour

  13. Droppin' Science - Marley Marl feat. Craig G.
  14. It's My Beat - Sweet Tee
  15. What I Got - Sublime
  16. Streets Of New York - Kool G Rap & DJ Polo
  17. Sound of Da Police - KRS1
  18. Subculture - Styles of Beyond
  19. Explosive! - Diverse
  20. Straight out the Jungle - Jungle Brothers
  21. They Want FX - Das EFX
  22. Mistadobalina - Del the Funky Homosapien
  23. Serious (remix) - Steady B
  24. Punks Jump Up to get Beat Down - Brand Nubian
  25. Here We Go Again - Poor Righteous Teachers
  26. Funky Child - Lords of the Underground
  27. Knight Rider - Punjabi MC
  28. Bill Cosby Gangsta Rap - Studged
"Hip Hop Junkies" by Nice and Smooth makes awesome use of a sample from "I Think I Love You" by The Partridge Family. I love the effect because it sounds so dark and funky at the same time.

"Express Yourself" uses a sample from the James Brown song of the same name. "Mr. Big Stuff" uses samples from the song of the same name by Jean Knight. If you haven't noticed, I used a lot of tracks that used samples.

But to reverse that pattern for a moment, "It's My Beat" by Sweet Tea was subsequently sampled for the JS16 track "Stomp to My Beat". In fact, all the lyrics for the JS16 song are taken directly from "It's my Beat" and simply Sped up and pitched down.

Das EFX shows up twice mostly because for me, when I think of kick ass old skool, Das EFX is probably the first group that comes to mind. "They Want FX" is one of my all time favorite hip hop tracks.

"Explosive!" is almost a crossover track between pure Breakbeats and Hip Hop. Diverse is from Chicago so they have a special place in my heart.

"Mistadobolina" by Del the Funky Homosapien samples, of all things, the Monkees track "Zilch". The sample is of the first part of the "song" (although it's more like a chant really) in which Peter Tork repeats the name "Mister Dobolina Mr. Bob Dobolina..." The sample was sped and pitched down for the track.

Lords of the Underground were a pretty revolutionary Hip Hop group for their time (early 90's). The style of both lyrics and music that they used became more popular around 2000. The music video for this track is pretty hilarious too, plus it shows that the Lords of the Underground didn't take themselves too seriously.

Punjabi MC is an Indian MC that has some pretty cool tracks. He isn't really Bhangra, although he definatly takes many cues from it. This track in particular is a cover from the Busta Rhymes track "Fire it Up", which in turn is uses a sample from teh 80's TV show. So it's a cover of a cover of a sample.

"Bill Cosby Gangster" Rap by Studged was featured on You're the Man Now, Dog! for quite some time. Hilariously, it does not contain one real sample of Bill Cosby's voice, only impressions of him from the TV shows "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy". the music is from Dr. Dre's "What's the Difference Between Me and You?"

Hope you like it... next up is a little 70's ditty that I threw together. It's got some great disco and funk, so get those platform shoes ready, sucka!

Stinger: Have a Banana! - The Beatles live at the BBC

The idea behind this mix was two-fold. I wanted to make a strictly hip-hop mix (almost succeeded… Pick Me Up isn’t really hip hop per se) but halfway through making it I decided to challenge myself.

20 or more tracks, 40 or fewer minutes.

The actual mix runs 9 seconds over, but that is because I threw in a stinger at the end which runs for about 22seconds… the actual music ends at 39:47 putting me within my own criteria.

It was in retrospect that I realized how many songs I chose that prominently feature the word “funk”, so that’s where the mix gets its name.

Fun Fact: Despite The first three tracks are all hip hop groups headed up by non-black guys. Funkdoobiest is a Latino group, Young Black Teenagers (despite the name) are all white guys and House of Pain is, of course, lead by Whitey Ford (Everlast), an Irish dude.

"Watch Out Now" - Uses the familiar tune which was also used in the track "Jenny From the Block" by Jennifer Lopez. The Beatnuts sampled the track "Hi-Jack" by Enoch Light, but they got full permission to do so, while Jennifer Lopez('s producers) just used the exact Beatnuts version of the beat without asking or clearing persmission. The Beatnuts were mad enough to write a diss track about Lopez on a subsequent album and eventually did recieve royalties... but I find it hilarious that in "Watch Out Now" they use the line: "Taking my beats to make your crowd get up? I'm fed up..."

B-Boy Izumu is by a relativly unknown Japanese Hip Hop group called Rhymester who actually have some really good beats and lyrics (whether or not you can understand the Japanese). They consist of three MC's and remind me a lot of a Japanese Beastie Boys.

Next up: More messed up beats! Be there!

Yay An Actual REAL Update =P

The past couple days have been pretty good lately actually. Was at the computer as usual listening to some music, of course I listen to a lot rap and hip hop aand whatnot. There was a verse though from an Outkast song. Andre 3000 was rapping like usual able to show you the art of story telling. He mentions God work in mysterious ways. Sure I've heard that quite a bit, or you probaly heard it quite a lot yourself.

I get a call from dad saturday morning, he's finally came back from Jamaica. I asked him how the Olympics were down there with Bolt tearing up the track and Jamaica doing so well. He says he CRIED a lot, one of the most happiest events in Jamaica history. So I tell him, So no gun shooting everything PEACEFUL in Jamaica right now with Bolt doing his thing haha. Wow with Jamaica's track team doing so well. I haven't been there in a while but Jamaica is still considered a third world country. Phelps did his thing too, but you only see one city and  people here and there around the country cheering. But when Jamaica was winning the WHOLE country just stop watches and parties.

Moving along, back to swhat I was saying dad called. Said call this guy, he was friends with my brother Brian. So I called him he a regional supervisor of Balley Total Fitness, and they were looking for some trainers and what not. So eventually I ended up setting up a meeting at one of them for tomorrow morning. So I have a job interview. You knoe hopefully things will work out. The reason why I feel abit more excited about this one was that. There was a lot of people that pulled this together, and I have a higher chance of getting this job then anything else. Let me try not to get ahead of myself here. I just feel things are working out better though.

I ended up going to church to see dad and some other people. So the sermon given by Dr. Stanley, just surprised me. It's like he KNOWS what I'm going through. The sermon was about money. If I remember correctly money is mention more then heaven or hell in the bible. It's kind of awkward, but it tells you that God was trying to get something across. You always hear the old saying, "Money is the root of all evil." Well in the sermon the way he was talking about it. it isn't. I'll see if I can explain a bit better but don't expect too much. What exactly is money? A dollar bill, it's paper. We use it to trade/buy things. There's a right way to use money and a wrong way to use money. And that it really depends on us on how we use it. Sure you have rich people who are greedy, but then you have poor people who envy or even hate people who are rich. There are rich people who are humble and give freely, we just don't ever hear about them (Unless it's Oprah @_@). And the poor people, when they envy or us, we go out and play the lottery wasting more money whic could be used to better lives or even giving it to the church. I know my church wouldn't be standing if it was for all the people who give money to it. We've moved. Upgraded twice, and the the way it looks now is just unbelievable at times.  i can see my pastor from any angle, and if I can't there's tvs postivion everywhere to where I can look over someone who's taller then me.

Well let me move on just a little bit to tell why I told that. Of course a lot of you know with me not having a job for quite some time almost three months ina few days. You sometimes realize it's hard to live without money or you suddenly realize the stress you start to recieve. I have to remember even though money makes the world go round, doesn't mean I can't live a good life by have a little bit less then somebody else. I tell you I learned a lot these past couple months. I kknew how to cook, but now I know how to cook real food meals and stuff. I mean I always knew how to do it, but I actually had the time to do it now. Also I realized mom really just cooks for herself @_@. Like I may pick off here and there but that's usually food for her work for the whole week practically. It's cool that's I''m learning how to cook better, the only thing that bugs me is, why would I want my food over my parents who have been round 50+ years. So whose food is going to be better, mom keeps telling me I need to lose weight and what not. But I was working quite a bit and she never cooked for me. And still see it now, since I don't work and watch money better. I've lost nearly 20 pounds. don't mind it but talk about being starved to death at times lol.

Anyways though, things are looking a lot better, or I have a better view on life for now at least. I just hope the interview goes really well tomorrow. That reminds me I do get my unemplyment check this week that finally worked out. The only thing is I don't want to jump through all those hoops filling this and that out. So if I get this job the sooner the better! Hope this entry makes some sense to you guys reading it!
