Weekend Work Sing-a-long.......

Sing the following to the tune of row row row yer boat:

Mow mow the grass

Make sure the lines are straight

Walk back and forth and sweat so much

Until yer ass is chafed

Trim trim the trees

Chainsaw them to death

Cut the branches buzz the twigs

Until yer outa breath

Shave shave the bushes

Into little tiny shapes

Make sure it's nothing too obscene

Or federal judges names

Bag bag up the trash

The thorny little scraps

Stick the skin until you bleed

Lips are getting chapped

92 or 93 humidity degree

Man I'm sweating bullets here

And I really gotta pee

On and on no break in site

When will this ever end

Why did I volunteer to work

With the damn lawn crew again?

For my boys on the lawn crew with whom I worked with last summer, and still pick up a Saturday or two when they need me. Hard hot work for certain, but my guys made it fun. I gotta get up 6am tomorrow for a full day of landscaping at the FedBldg where I usually work inside in the air conditioning.

Maybe I'll actually get a bit of a tan.

Hot times in the summer heat and mental complexes combine forces to bring you...

Okay, many moons have past since I last blogged. Sorry to anyone who reads this and has been disappointed. Anyone who does read this and wasn’t, to thee I say: How dare you not weep in my absence! J

Moving on, today has been another warm, muggy day. They seem to be the trend during this season. Taking a signal from Mother Nature, I am staying only in air conditioned spaces; the only natural place to be. Being back at my parent’s house makes me feel like a guest or better yet a room renter. I eat most of my meals by myself; I clean my own room, kitchen, bathroom, and living room; and I buy my own groceries. These actions feel routine, yet there is a part of me that feels like I shouldn’t have to be taking care of everything on my own quiet yet. Strange time for that feeling to come up being as how I have lived this way for the last three to four years. I suppose this just proves the point that you don’t really realize how messed up you are until you leave your family and realize that not everyone lives the way you do.

That’s how it is for me at least. I fear that if I ever have another serious romantic relationship I will be too independent because I am stuck in this pattern or I will be too needy because I will collapse if I ever took the chance to lean on someone else. I’m going to college in the fall, but what I really want to do is regress back to some state of dependant childhood that I seem to have missed out on.

Anyways, that’s how I am today I guess: having a dependency complex in my air conditioned house.

And with summer comes thunder storms
The temperature has fluctuated in recent days, but still it's a lot warmer than it has been which I appreciate. Summer has finally come in and I can stop carrying my coat around. And now I'm sitting back with what to me is a rare but valued experience where I currently live: a heavy summer rain and a melodious thunderstorm. Nothing too excessive that would frighten anyone but the most timid of hearts. Just a comforting but strong pitter patter sound and occasional rumble. And the smell! Summer rain is the best smelling rain hands down. I have no idea why rain should differ in scent, but the summer drizzles do. Everything about the summer storm, it all just feels so fresh. Like a the world is being cleansed and brought back to simpler more relaxed state.

I love it I tell you.

It's only 80 degrees?
It feels like it's about 90 or so. I think I'm dehydrated, because I'm fairly dizzy right now when I stand up. I need to drink my water.

Chapter 57: Writing Exercise
My dearest darlingest wife is a reading specialist in a high school, and she told me about an interesting exercise I thought I’d share with all of you.

What words can you think of to describe a hot day?

Sweaty
Sultry
Sauna
Simmering
Searing
Humid
Heat
Burn
Blaze
Fire

What other ones can you think of?  Plenty, right?

Now, can you describe a hot day without using any of those words?

Perhaps you’ll describe a group of kids playing in the street as a fire hydrant sprays them with water.  Or a dog lying outside, panting tongue dragging across the high grass.  What about a boy leaning in to lick an ice cream cone and finding that his treat has melted almost instantly?

Would you create the idea of an image shimmering over black concrete, or have the very blackness of that tar seeming to bubble off and evaporate?

What would you do?  You would paint a picture, you would invent a scene, you would create that all important tone: atmosphere.

You could write, “the day was hot.”  Or you could create a whole world for your reader.

Why don’t you do that now?  In as many words as you want, craft a scene of a hot day, without using any synonyms for the word hot.  Post it as a comment. Leave your name if you’d like.  And your age.  And anything else you want to tell us about yourself.  Create your ideal hot world, and let’s see how inventive you can be.

I can’t wait to discover what you can do.  I bet it’ll be hot.
