In an era where half of all marriages in the US end in divorce, 10, 20, or 30 years of commitment seem like a fairly big achievement. But as niassa reports, a couple featured on The Today Show blows all of those anniversaries out of the water, as they celebrated 83 years of kinship this week. For Clarence and Mayme Vail, this year’s anniversary also puts them in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-married couple on earth.
The longevity of both their lives and their marriage has led to quite a few descendents according to Today:
“Their six children — three have been married for 50 years or longer — begat 39 grandchildren, who begat 101 great-grandchildren, who have so far begotten 40 great-great-grandchildren. If you’re keeping score at home, that’s 186 descendants.”
So, kudos to the Vails, and if you have tips on staying together for more than a few weeks, feel free to share
