Great Poetry @ MindSay
Howdy Howdy all!
Okay, not only have I completed 2 annotated bibliographies, 2 research abstracts/outlines, gotten 1 book for 1 of 2 book critiques I am to present and gotten a lead on a great volunteer opportunity with an organization within walking distance to school but I have also REGISTERED FOR SPRING COURSES AND GOTTEN FINANCIAL AID IN PLACE AND READY TO GO! Could you french me and die?!?!?!?!? Of course you could, but would I let you? Oh how could I say no to that face?! Anyway I am taking the masters course in Women in Mythology and Women in Shakespeare next spring! I am so excited and I am in the running to help my advisor set up a sustainability project next semester in some supposed rough and tumble neighborhoods....man this is so awesome and I am too excited.
Hey let's keep the good news flowing ya'll somebody tell me something GREAT that is going on with them or something they have been able to work through that they thought they wouldnt! I am all ears! How gorgeous was yesterday's poem, huh?....how about some poetry....here goes....(yes I still think of you)
Lasting Love
Your love has reached my heart today,
And deep in me it has come to stay,
Finding a home till time meets end.
In my life, you’ve carved a niche,
Leaving a mark so indelibly etched,
And nothing fits to take its place.
In my future, I see your presence,
In ways so loving and happily spent,
Feeding my dreams as I take a view. --Oliver Mbamara

Howdy howdy all!
Well I suppose ya'll reckoned that the last entry was all of the country-time photos that I had....well ya'll was mistaken cause I gots plenty more where those came from! LOL. Just a couple of shots I truly love...the first one is of some of my late grandmother's property.... The picture isnt that great because for some reason I was having trouble keeping a steady hand...go figure...
My great Aunt Eva's old house....she used to tell me all the time how I was a "purty black gal"! Ahhh the South...good times. We are supposed to start cleaning up the area and trying to rebuild the house soon. It was built in the early part of the 1900s or the late 1800s and we want to keep the original fireplace above all else...
Oh and here is a photo of yours truly...well the top of my freshly braided head anyway...thanks Courtney-Lynne (my baby cousin who in true southern fashion has 2 first names and a middle name). Check out my forehead heat rash!
How about some poetry...here goes...
Nature, The Gentlest Mother
Nature, the gentlest mother,
Impatient of no child,
The feeblest or the waywardest,
Her admonition mild
In forest and the hill
By traveller is heard,
Restraining rampant squirrel
Or too impetuous bird.
How fair her conversation,
A summer afternoon,
Her household, her assembly;
And when the sun goes down
Her voice among the aisles
Incites the timid prayer
Of the minutest cricket,
The most unworthy flower.
When all the children sleep
She turns as long away
As will suffice to light her lamps;
Then, bending from the sky
With infinite affection
And infiniter care,
Her golden finger on her lip,
Wills silence everywhere.--Emily Dickinson

Howdy howdy all.
I am still getting over my cold but I am feeling a heck of a lot better but still a bit groggy. I hope ya'll liked the Derby pics I had a bitching good time!
Well not much to say so I will post a picture from my trip to the Grand Canyon...
I miss the feeling of vastness that I felt when I stood on the edge of some rocks and took this photo...It was so humbling. How about some poetry...here goes...
Venus Transiens
Tell me,
Was Venus more beautiful
Than you are,
When she topped
The crinkled waves,
Drifting shoreward
On her plaited shell?
Was Botticelli's vision
Fairer than mine;
And were the painted rosebuds
He tossed his lady,
Of better worth
Than the words I blow about you
To cover your too great loveliness
As with a gauze
Of misted silver?
For me,
You stand poised
In the blue and buoyant air,
cinctured by bright winds,
Treading the sunlight.
And the waves which precede you
Ripple and stir
The sands at my feet.--Amy Lowell (1874-1925)

Howdy Howdy all! I normally don't post 2 entries so close together but I have had an eventful couple of days. HAPPY IMBOLC (see the previous entry for ritual information)!
Ahhh where to begin. Well the lecture I led was a stunning success. My prof. praised my ability to keep the attention of the audience and to ask thought provoking questions about Literary Theory. It was incredibly fun to teach people who are genuinely interested in what you are talking about. To celebrate I went to a poetry reading with a dred that I know from the spoken word crowd. It was really nice and I had a great time. I don't really do spoken word myself but I love to see others perform. Now for the bad news (well not bad really but not good either).
Remember the young fella that I was interested in? Well he was about 10 years my junior and I wondered if the age difference would be an issue. Many spoke about maturity regardless of age while others felt that chronological proximity was the way to go.
Well the fella was mature enough certainly but we were far apart in reference to life experiences. The references I made to things of my youth and of my generation were kinda foreign to him in many cases. It was really an unfair association for us both and I am glad that we figured it out before things got to far along. It's just as well because there is a young lady in our study group who is quite interested in him and since she just turned 20 and he is 24 they are better suited I think (lord that is young, I could be her mother JEEZ!...well ...if I got pregnant at 14).
Anyway it is back to square one for the Paganista but that's okay I have a million things on my plate right now and cultivating a relationship with a kid younger than my BABY brother is probably not conducive to getting things done right now. Besides I am planning a trip to Jamaica with friends and should probably start looking for a good package since I am going in March. I can't wait to see Dunne's River Falls and check out the flora and fauna again. I snorkeled last time but this time I think I will try canoeing. How about some poetry...here goes....
I'm Not Lonely
i'm not lonely
sleeping all alone
you think i'm scared
but i'm a big girl
i don't cry
or anything
i have a great
big bed
to roll around
in and lots of space
and idon't dream
bad dreams
like i used
to have that you
were leaving me
anymore
now that you're gone
i don't dream
and no matter
what you think
i'm not lonely
sleeping
all alone--Nikki Giovanni

Hello All,
It has been such a while, I know.
I guess I have not been feeling it, but I am hopeful. I know I should be with every passing day, a new dawn and all that, but I am starting with the new year and working down. (Transitions can be difficult!)
I have been trying to think of a way to post my poetry here and any insight would be great as you can surely tell from the dullness of my page, I have not yet figured out how this all works, and truthfully, I have not devoted as much time to it as I had intended to. Do I just post it, do I need to copyright, I don't know!
I really do welcome your comments, insights, advice, whatever you want to call them.
We are all begininers here at something and we all have the ability to teach something to somebody!
To all the students and teachers out there, can't wait to be a part of your calssroom!
