I'm in my new place
Finally..only a month after I was suppose to be there.

I don't know if any of you had to move back in with your parents for any length of time, but I don't recommend it. Especially when you have no room of your own and your mom (and her room mate) smoke like a Yugo running on regular.

Last night it was so nice to just close the door last night and know that no one could come in..and I could use my PC without hearing the TV on all the time, breathing fresh air, and not having to listen to comments about everything, or have the sound of Pogo.com seared in to my consciousness. I don't even have a matress yet but I had a better sleep on the floor of my own room then I have had in months.
Maybe my lungs can start to heal heh...Since I was really sick last week they have hurt a little; I know being around the smoke doesn't help.

I'm working on some projects and being in my own space is going to help my whole creative output. I'm eating cup of noodles to stay alive right now, having to get the net off of a somewhat working satellite card...but man it is so worth it.

I have grown to hate the television. It is one of those things I will use, but when it is not being used I turn it off.  I haven't watched Television on a regular basis since..2003? 2004? I have grown to loath having the incessant chattering of inane fictitious beings always in my ear...and I'm not talking about voice chatting with my friends online (hahaha)

Anyway, I'm at work and just thought I'd take some time to rant since the satellite card works everywhere....

Although..when I woke up this morning the electric guy was driving off. He turned off our electric. Dang APS and their misunderstandings! Luckily I'm at work all night so the electricity on tomorrow when I get home..

Of course my house mate has to sleep with no electric.

I also have my xbox 360 with me (The GTA IV duffel bag makes a really good 360 tote) so I should be playing more GTA here tonight. w00t.

I love my mom to pieces and our relationship is so much better then it used to be.  However I won't, God willing, have to live with her again.  I like being able to breath...heh.

Tough Lessons

This week a teacher was punished for showing her fifth grade class a clip from the Spielberg film Amistad. See story HERE

How do I feel about this? 1) She should have let the school know she was going to show the clip.  2) Fifth graders may have been too young to view that clip.  That being said, I think we tend to coddle our children in one aspect and give them free reign in others.  Video games like Grand Theft Auto and movies like Saw are mostly popular amongst teens even though they are rated M and R respectively. Our society has become numb and apathetic when it comes to violence. We love violent movies and video games, however in a video game you can just hit reset, get your life back, and blow someone away all over again.

When violence is attached to real-life events like war or the Holocaust, we'd rather not talk about it. Teachers can't show movies like Saving Private Ryan or Schindler's List because they are too disturbing. Are all lessons supposed to be shiny and happy? Slavery wasn't shiny and happy.  War isn't shiny and happy.  The Holocaust wasn't shiny and happy. HISTORY wasn't shiny and happy.

When I was in middle school they showed us a film called Dead is Dead.  It was a very graphic film used to teach people about drug addiction.  Environgirl, Tristaprez and I were so freaked out about that movie we couldn't sleep or listen to the Bill Withers' version of the song Lean On Me for days. I still can't stand listening to his version of Lean On Me.  That movie also made us never want to do drugs.  Seeing a junkie with a whole cut in his leg because he had no  "good veins" left to shoot up will do that to you.  Suffice it to say, so many parents complained about the movie, that they no longer show it to kids. Instead we have D.A.R.E. week, which is as affective as a cart with square wheels to middle schoolers.

When I learned about the Holocaust, my history teacher showed us film footage that the Nazis took of concentration camps. I doubt she could show those films today. What about the movies they used to show in drivers' ed classes that had footage of horrific car accidents? They stopped showing those, too.  Are we sending a mixed message to our children? "Sure I'll buy you Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but you can't watch clips of Amistad in school!"

Jack Thompson rears his ugly head once again

Police seize violent games in shooting investigation

Acting on advice of Jack Thompson, sheriff's deputies search home of suspected Louisiana killer and confiscate M-rated games.

Last week, sheriff's deputies conducting an investigation into the murder of a 55-year-old Louisiana man seized a number of games rated M for Mature from the home of a 16-year-old suspect, according to a report in the Baton Rouge paper The Advocate. The action was taken at the suggestion of controversial Florida attorney Jack Thompson.

Thompson told The Advocate that he suggested the sheriffs look for violent games in the youth's house because he felt the killings mirrored a scenario from Grand Theft Auto. The original reports indicated that the victim was beaten to death and shot in the face by the 16-year-old and a 17-year-old accomplice.

"Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hit man or a video gamer," Thompson told the paper.

While the police did seize the games, it's unclear exactly what role they will play in the investigation. West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Captain Spence Dilworth told the paper, "I think it goes beyond video games, but who's to say?"

Sounds to me like it was Jack Thompson's fault in the first place. The man heard him on TV or something, then raided the kid's house. The kid was obviously troubled in the first place, and shot the man. The man shouldn't have heeded Jack Thompons' ridiculous advice. Jack should just shut up now, since he could have prevented this entire thing in the first place.

Bastards. There All Fucking Bastards.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6144286.html?page=0

Prostitutes called for a ban on GTA. Yeah, that's funny isn't it. Hilarious. Really I mean, prostitutes? They shouldn't even talk about immoralities in games, right? What losers. Who's gonna take them seriously, parents sure aren't.

And it's so Goddamned Fucking hilarious isn't it. You think it's funny don't you? That a prostitute would stand up for her rights. Some one who gives up their body on a regular basis for a handful of change to feed her children is standing up for her rights.

You don't think she has any rights do you? She's only a little bed toy to play around with every now and then. She doesn't have children, or a life other than a bedroom. GTA shouldn't bother her one bit because she doesn't even have enough brain power to play it or even understand it.

But she did. And she saw a representation of herself murdered, beated, robbed, and even in a case, raped. How can you rape a prostitute? The same way you rape any woman(or man). And yes, it is possible to rape a prostitute, because a prostitute sells herself. Which means she gives consent. Rape means without consent, so yes kiddies, you can rape a prostitute.

Guess what's the best part of this whole thing? No one cares! Not one fucking bastard who owns that game cares! Because their game might be banned by a group of lowly, insignifigant, sex workers who actually feel upset about something.

I'm not saying I want the game banned. Keep it out for all I care. But when the dumbasses who own the game sit there and laugh their empty heads off at this, bashing those poor women up and down the high way, then trying to proclaim they're mature enough not to reinact the game? Just doesn't fly for me.

Now, I felt good about this article because these women were standing up for themselves. Then I read the game player's comments. That made me just a little bit sick. 29/29 pages of comments and all the fuckers could say was "hahahaha look theyre sooo stupid." Bastards.
