WHAT I DID ON MY NEW YEARS EVE ;-)
The sun came out yesterday for a change.  Skies were clear ... air frigid.  A pleasant ending to 2007.

My goal was to have found 200 geocaches by the end of the year.  I didn't make that goal.  After five finds yesterday I ended 2007 with 170 finds.  Money & depression took the hold that it can in the last few months and dominated my thoughts.  As much as I wanted to go caching .... I didn't have the energy to make it happen.

Feeling a bit better in the last week or so the decision was made to make it out one last time in 2007.  With Sunday's weather holding us back I almost felt as though it would not happen.  But it did ..... finally.

So after a morning argument with Dave about what else .... money, we do some creative banking and manage to get gas in the car, a little extra for some munchies and off we go (any extra money these days have been going towards tires for the truck).  I have a route planned, its a small outing as I have to be home by early afternoon for the rest of my day.  Explained later.

The first cache was called Louie-U-ee.  Its a spot on I-5 where you can get off the freeway in the middle of nowhere and get back on the other direction.  And before you look at the pictures .... I'm half embarrassed to put these up.  The weight gain is very obvious .... didn't realize how obvious till I compared pictures from last year to this year .... ouch!

Hidden in the fence post cap it was a micro cache with a log only.  Quick find, sign and go.

Next stop was called Maytenth Big Springs.  We have stopped at this place many times as it was in route to some property my father had bought and we sold after moving here.  It was never developed due to lack of water.  We sold it for the same price it was bought for in 1964.  And we were lucky to get that.

I just love it when he faces me into the freaking sun.  LOL  cllecr had sent me a new coin to send on its way for her and I chose this spot to get it going.  From here it can go either north or south, east or west with ease.  Can't tell from the picture but Mt. Shasta is in view.  The cache is hidden (very well I might add, damn) in a little park area next to the mini-mart.

A nice bridge out in the country .... thinking of putting a cache here.  This was actually in route from the first cache to second cache.  The snow covered mountain in the background is called the goose nest.  It is said you don't plant your garden till the snow is off the goose nest .... a rule Dave and I generally ignore.  Go figure.

From here we went into the actual "development" that we had owned the property in.  We (Dave) goes here a lot to collect lava rock.  And there is plenty of it.  Growing up as a kid I new we owned property with Mt. Shasta as the view, but all I could really tell people about it is that it was lava rock and tumble weeds. The tumble weeds were actually Juniper trees and bushes.

The Mt. Shasta Vista (name of what would have been a subdivision had there been water) cache was hidden in an old Juniper snag .... just down the road from our old piece of ground.  It was a good hide.

From here we headed out to Hwy 97 and headed to Cindy's Cache.  This cache was hidden by the same gentleman that had hidden the previous cache.  It was in memory of his late wife who died just recently.  She had been introduced to geocaching in May of this year and fell in love with the sport instantly.  She had received about five trackable items for her birthday and made up a cache with her birthday goodies to hide in celebration.  She died suddenly without warning.

Signing the log at Cindy's cache.  It was kind of a strange spot.  An area wide enough for truckers to turn around or just pull off the Hwy for a rest .... there were plenty of piss bottles littering the area.  We both thought was a strange place to put such a meaningful cache.  Another reason to carry antibiotic hand gel. EWWW .....

The last cache of the day and my 170th find was called Emigrant Trail.

You gotta love the double glasses action going on here.  Can't see without either pair .... sun or regular .... so you do what you gotta do.  Double up.  LOL   It took me forever to find this cache .... and for the most part it was in plain sight.  Sometimes I think we just look a bit to hard.

And of course .... as most of you know .... I can't head east without .....

a picture of Shasta in all her glory.  Taken from the Louie Rd. cache.

I found out yesterday that Mt. Shasta now erupts about every 600 years .... it's been approximately 200 years since she last erupted.  That is very good news. Smiley

We then took the long way home .... a relaxing scenic drive.  I then had to get ready for part two of my day.  I'll bet the anticipation is just killing you ....

Bingo.  Yep .... the girl said .... Bingo.  My darling lovely adorable mother let me know on Sunday that I was expected at Bingo on New Years Eve to help.  After I got over the anger and went to the shop and screamed very loudly I just resolved myself to go.  But the woman has to stop this shit.

I got our donation of finger food ready to go ..... chips and salsa .... downed two beers very very quickly .... smoked a large bowl .... grabbed a piece of Big Red (old and stale) and mom and off we went.  To the senior center for Bingo.  "We are always done before midnight."  Believing that this was my irritation.

For the next seven hours I played banker at Bingo.  Till well after Midnight.  I would love to just bitch and bitch and bitch ..... but I came home $70.00 richer.  Bingo was very very good to me last night.

After falling asleep sometime after 3:00 this morning .... I was awakened by Petey with sweet eye kisses letting me know he was hungry at about 6:30.  I've been up since.  A nap will be in order sometime today.

It is also moms birthday today.  Not sure what we are going to do for her.  Haven't even thought about it honestly.  So .... guess I better.

Hope everyone has a wonderful New Years ....

Peace.  J.

Trapped Miners
It seems they are giving up on the rescue. I can understand why they wouldn't want to risk more lives when they are not sure if the miners are even still alive or where they are. That must be a difficult decision. I don't really understand why they don't know where the miners were working. Do they not organise the workplace in mines? They don't have set shifts? They don't know where the coal is? And even with all that...are there not walkie talkie/GPS/radios that will work underground? Even for a limited distance? Seems to me like there should be something that would at least work in the tunnels. So they would know where the miners are if nothing else. Is this too expensive? Did no one think about it? Have they tried?

Someone please explain this to me. Thanks.

Lucky For You .....
I've quit counting the days.  They have pretty much run all together at this time anyway.

Thursday was a good day.  A day of relaxing .... found three caches and hid one.  We started out a bit later than I would have like in the morning but that is overall my doing.  Just couldn't seem to get moving.  Worn out from a long week.  The first thing on the agenda for the morning was the cache hide.  We knew where we wanted to hide it and had made several attempts .... but there were always people (muggles in geospeak) around so we tried again Thursday and got lucky.  Well, except the the Highway Patrol showed up to see what the suspicious circumstances were going on at the bridge.  Someone had reported us apparently.  We explained what we were doing and he had a good laugh and told us to "Have a nice day".  Thank you Mr. Officer ...... Smiley

The bridge where we hid the cache.  I named it Buck Bridge Cache for this reason:

This beauty watched us non stop and never budged .... I told him he best not be pointing out the cache for people ..... karma may bite him in the butt come hunting season .... !

The first cache find was at Iron Gate Lake.  It was a beautiful day ....

The find on a ridge about above the lake. "Iron Gate Cache".

Micro hidden here at the sign.  Horseshoe Ranch Wildlife Area .... didn't know it existed.

The "Savage Falls" cache.  What a beautiful spot this was .... and on a hot day .... quite refreshing !

Savage Falls.

Savage Falls ..... again.

Taken from the top of the falls ...

Rock formation above the falls.

A very cool looking flower amongst all the trees and folage in the area of the falls.  I can't even tell you how totally cool this place really was ..... and to have it to ourselves was even nicer.

The coin has now gone through Oregon .... up to Washington ..... and now back down to Fullerton, CA. traveling over 900+ miles.  It was picked up today and will soon continue on its journey .... it really is fun watching it bounce from cache to cache.

Work .... still love it .... still a lot of drama .... a never ending battle for respect .... but I've gotten tougher in the past two days ..... if they didn't like me / hated me before ..... it's about to take a turn for the worse.  But out of the bad will come some good .... it has too.

Hoping all of you father's out there have an awesome day tomorrow ..... and a great weekend to all.

Peace.  J.

Good News & Geocaching ......
Golly Golly Golly ....

Where do I start ..... with the GOOD NEWS or the Geocaching ???? Do I make you suffer till the end of the post ..... or do I share now .... ?  Hummmmmm ......

Alright, alright ..... GOOD NEWS first:

The woman from  the group home phoned and my fingerprints came back free and clear !

And althought it really really is good news ..... I didn't have to put myself through all this either ..... but I needed to .... I still feel better being up front and honest than having them run and come back with felony attached and feeling like a low-life loser for lying.  Now because I missed the CPR and First Aide training I have to find out where to get it done on my own ..... and get my physical and TB test.  She one Sunday shift available. And it's mine ..... just got to get this stuff done before I can start.

OK ..... now for what you have all really been waiting for I know ..... LOL .....

It was a cold, rainy (off and on), windy day ..... I didn't care .... as usual ..... I just wanted to cache. So I ended up with 11 total finds and one hide.

The was the second half of a two part cache.  Called "Not Forgotten Water". We had tried to find this before .... without luck. Many others were having the same problem. Then he updated his clue .... we went back and just when I was ready to throw in the towel on this one again .... I found the first stage (Dave forgot pic) .... it was a very small micro green camo'd container hung on a tree branch. What a hide .... then a walk up the hill to the cache itself.  This is the cache that I gave away as a door prize at my pizza gig.  It was fun to see it planted near home.

This cache was called "By the Creek".  Which it was .... which is right next door to Yreka's sewer ponds.  It smelled a bit stinky .... but it's a find.

The gentleman who hid this cache .... referred to this tree as a pine tree ..... it's an walnut tree by all accounts. Just had to throw that in.

The "Hawkinsville" cache.  Found in the hills above Hawkinsville just north of Yreka.

This was called "Deer Eyes" ..... but no deer here today.

A sign for the PCT or Pacific Crest Trail ..... and Mt. Ashland ski resort.  Another cache found close by here.

This cache called "No Man's Land" was a hard find.  I was just looking in all the wrong places .... and when I did see it it was very obvious.  A long walk down a muddy bank.  The trail sign above is around here.

Called "Hillside Retreat" that is part of a cemetery in the background behind me.

This was called "Outhouse?"  And there was a cute little building where this was hid.  Of course Dave didn't get the building .... just me.  And the look on my face is because some of the neighbors in this residential area were driving by wondering what the hell I was doing for sure.

Just about gave up on the "Red Hawk" cache.  We couldn't find it after searching for quite awhile. So I then referred to the clue ..... which said by a snag.  Well last time I checked a snag is a snag and a stump is a stump. This was a stump ..... not a snag ..... AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!  And the coordinates were just a bit off.

View from the "Red Hawk" cache.  Overlooking Phoenix Oregon.

"The Frogs They Are Acroaking" ..... never heard a frog .... but found the cache.  Looking happy here, eh?

The "Dead Log" cache.

Hidden in a new subdivision development a mico called "Calle Vista".  Hidden in the base of the lamp post.

I also did a hide yesterday .....

That's me heading toward my hide .... a magnetic key holder stuck to the inside of the guard rail on the "Dry Gulch" bridge.  It's a long long long way down.

A look over the bank.  YeeeeHaaaaa ....... look out below !

Well that was my day .....

I may go and see if I can make a couple finds later on .... hopefully three more First to Finds.  We will see.  So I have once again passed cllecr  but I'm sure not for long.  I'm at 111 finds now. Smiley  And have six hides to my credit.  I might do another hide today too.  Depends on how ambitious I get.

Peace.  J.
