so in addition to mindsay, i'm also a member of a few other online communities (yes, i'm cheating on mindsay), one of which is the gothic community gonegothic.com.
there are lots of true goths on there, but i've also noticed lots of emo/scene people too. while i have no problem with them (as long as they don't talk to me), it's just that it's not exactly "gothic". yes, there is a large difference between emo and gothic, even though most people group them together. there's an even larger difference between scene and goth and still scene, emo, and goth are often grouped together.
now this site was, supposedly, made for goth people who are different from everyone else, people who want to talk to people with similar differences, who know what it's like to be abnormal. the other problem with emo and scene kids is that emo and scene are in style. it's currently a huge fashion trend (and i don't just mean the hair). it bothers me that these kids who are following the latest big thing think they know what it's like to be the odd one when they do what they do to fit in because it's cool and fun.
in addition to the emo and scene kids, there have also been way too many preppy kids. not even preppy, all of them, but definitely not outside the norm in any way. maybe they're there because they listen to hardcore music or whatever, but they still don't get it. these kids are normal, they don't know what it is to be strange and like it. they'd be afraid to be strange and they'd definitely have trouble enjoying it.
i'm guessing no one read this far but i'll keep going anyway.
Hot Topic has the same problem as GG. i'm not going to get too far into it, it's so damn obvious. i only ever go in there for hosiery anymore. and i hate those fucking "fake glasses" they sell. you know, the ones with clear or no lenses? i want to burn them all.
anyway, with emo/scene/normal kids invading everything that was once exclusively gothic, where are we to go? is no place sacred?
damn, i sound like that one episode of South Park =P
seriously though, emo and scene and normal kids that have way better things to do, thus will never read this: no offense, but you are not goths. you aren't even punk, most of you. screamo shouldn't count at metal. you have, in fact, stolen styles from the 80's. there's nothing wrong with that, just know that it's been dome before. also know that you're going to laugh your ass off in 30 years looking at old pictured of yourselves. you look ridiculous and i hope you eventually realize that.
with all that being said, i'm done on the subject for now. any questions, ask. any angry comments, shoot. but for now i need to sleep. i have to wake up early to put on thick black eye make up and dark purple lipstick.
