Good Night Mindsay @ MindSay

Wowee.

Well, MindSay, it's been almost two years since I've been around.

That's quite a spell, if I do say so myself.

I hope you'll be glad to hear that, though I've left you for so long, the spark is back.

I'm blogging once more.

I'm going to be honest: this community contributed a great deal to the early development of Ben Mosher, and for that, you have my most sincere thanks. From my start back in 2003 stalking nikkilavoie as her secret santa at my school (thus the userid), to tossing comments back and forth with my good buddy snowboarder (Chevis), to being chased by various MindSay ladies (not the least of which, hobbit5) because of my notorious ability to take sexy profile pictures (anyone looks good in 20x100px), to building this ridiculous color scheme that is now user-selectable in the global MindSay theme library (I was quite honored they added it), and as I recall, has secret love-messages hidden in the stylesheet code written to a girl who I couldn't have designed it without.

A lot of stupid teen-angst and ridiculous, stupid humor peppers these pages. A lot of things I just should've said at the right time to the right person, as well, but I took the coward's way out and just posted it in my own little corner of the Internet.

It was middle- and high-school, though. I think these things go without saying.

I'm glad it all got out of me somehow. I just might have popped otherwise.

Through all the anger and the joy, I tried to keep one rule for blogging: never delete an entry; only explain or apologize.

I might have been understood wrong, or I may have been just-plain-wrong, but at some point, everything here is something I thought, meant, or felt. I think, for that alone, it deserves a record.

I may have switched some entries to just-me mode, as perhaps they weren't appropriate for publication, but I still keep them.

Anyway, I do hope it gets more readable as it goes, particularly past the point when I discovered and subsequently pillaged the comedic and line-spacing styles of (as I remember him) one of the MindSay titans, Smurfy.

Without this blog, I might not have nearly the still-not-great-but-better-than-I'd-be-doing-otherwise grasp I have on English grammar and spelling.

Which very well might mean I couldn't sit down and write a two-page paper in an hour.

For that alone, MindSay, I owe you much.

So, I suppose this is officially the end. It is indeed, as Bilbo would say, a very fond farewell.

I will link this blog from my new one--another separate chronicle of my thoughts from a wholly different era of my life. If you've just come from there, feel free to poke around, some of this stuff might be alright.

I really don't recall.

But because this is all here, logged away,

I don't need to.

That's the magic of the blogosphere.

Sincerely, and with the best of wishes,

Ben Mosher

Movies From February

À double tour (1959)  Directed by Claude Chabrol, so of course it was fabulous.

Amour l'après-midi, L' (1972) AKA Chloe in the Afternoon (I was on an Eric Rohmer kick this month)

Arizona Dream (1993) My first Emir Kusturica film. How I liked it!

Baby Face (1933) Barbara Stanwyck!

Barton Fink (1991) second viewing

Beau-père (1981) Actually I only got thru half of this.

Belle et la bête, La (1946) Now I see what everyone's talking about.

Bonnes femmes, Les (1960) Oui! Another Claude Chabrol film.

Brokeback Mountain (2005) Ang Lee was supposed to be at this showing. He wasn't. Jake & Heath were. And they refused to "reenact" the movie. The kissing part, anyway. Jake sang "Fever Night" for the crowd. A few bars, anyway.

Buffet froid (1979) A dark comedy. VERY dark. And French too.

Camille (1921)

Camille (1936)

Chamade, La (1968) From Francoise Sagan's book. With Catherine Denueve.

Choristes, Les (2004) Extremely good.  And touching too.  I bawled.

Ciociara, La (1960) AKA Two Women w/ Sophia Loren.

Dentellière, La (1977) AKA The Lacemaker

Dom za vesanje (1988) AKA Time of the Gypsies Emir Kusturica

East of Eden (1955)

Eraserhead (1977) Very strange. See the very bottom of this post.

Final Destination 3 (2006) Perfect Valentine's Day movie.

Genou de Claire, Le (1970) AKA Claire's Knee (Eric Rohmer)

Giant (1956)

Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) w/Writer Grant Haslov who claims that getting drunk is the key to writing a successful screenplay.

In the French Style (1963) Jean Seberg double feature at UCLA

Jacquot de Nantes (1991)

Journal d'un curé de campagne (1951) Diary of a Country Priest

Lilith (1964) second viewing Jean Seberg double feature at UCLA

Ma nuit chez Maud (1969) AKA My Night At Maud’s (Eric Rohmer)

Manderlay (2005) Over the top movie about slavery by a director (von Trier) who has reportedly never set foot in America. Very offensive content! With exceptional performances by almost everyone but Bryce Dallas Howard.

Night Nurse (1931) Barbara Stanwyck again!

Roma, città aperta (1945) AKA Open City

Route de Corinthe, La (1967) AKA Who's Got the Black Box? (yet another Claude Chabrol film)

The Sheltering Sky (1990) This movie was playing at a revival house this month, but I was too cheap and rented the movie for free at the library.  I made up for it by seeing a Barbara Stanwyck double feature at the end of the month. See Baby Face & Night Nurse.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005)

Vic (2006)

Winter Passing (2005) This wasn’t as great as I had hoped, but I wanted to catch it.

Eraserhead:

Now compare Jack Nance's hairstyle to the Country Priest:

I agree. Too freaky.  They could be the same guy. But they aren't.

28 Doctrines!
Wowza... Tomorrow I have to run the powerpoint for church... Twice. The pathfinder club is doing a presentation about the 28 fundemental beliefs of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Unfortunately, I have to wear my uniform, even though I am not going to be seen except by the sound dorks. Pray that all goes well... Not only for me, but everyone involved in the program. I have to be up in like 6 hrs, so I am heading to bed. Good Night Mindsay!!

Mystery Guy...

Ok, wow... So, I get this call... And I'm like "Who is this?" And there all "Who are you?" and I'm like "Umm, I asked you first.." So this guy was like "I'm Brendon..." I'm like "Uhh... Do I know you?" And he's like wait, who are you? And I'm like "Kem..." So yeah... It was pretty interesting... And then he starts saying how nice I sound and junk and asks me where I'm from... So I'm like "Fairly near you..." Cause he lives like a town away or whatever...And he's like "Oh, not the type to meet a stranger on the phone?" And I'm like, "No... Sorry." And he's started laughing and is like "So, are you single?" And laughs more... So this guy ends up calling me like three times... 3!! And each time he says how nice I am... On the second call he was like "Well, you sound like a very nice girl. I hope you get married someday and have a nice family..." Well, on the third call, he was like "Dude, I should send you like a money order or something for wasting your minutes..." And I'm like "Naw, it's fine... Don't worry about it. I have free minutes." So... He's like "Man, I need to call you sometime when I'm sober and take you out to dinner." And I'm like "No, really... It's ok..." And he's like "No, I WANT to..." I just about died... I'm like... "OK? You do that..." So yeah... I wonder if he'll ever call me back? I can't see his number because of my stupid cracked screen... So, I have no choice but to answer if he does... BAH! LOL... Ok, well... I just thought I'd inform you all of my very stupid, yet funny story for today... Good Night Mindsay!!
