Geocache @ MindSay
Troubled Waters Part II - Details
Checking my email last night I saw that my geocaching nemesis Hafhas had claimed "First to Find" on the ever elusive Troubled Waters cache.
So I emailed him and asked him if we had been close and were the coordinates right .... etc. He emailed me back and said we were all close .... coordinates were 35 - 45 feet off according to his GPS but we should of found it. I had also emailed and questioned the cacher that hide the cache about the container type and was told it was a camo painted jar. So with these things in mind I headed out late this morning (even though I was up at like 4:00 .... but that is another story .... and I just woke up from a nap I should not of taken) and ......
Surveyed the situation before even taking off up the hill. Hafhas had also said the hike was NOT a big hike ..... I looked at all the different holes, nooks and crannies in the hillside ..... rethinking and going over in my mind the ones I had searched throughly ...... and then I noticed a stick ..... a bit out of place ..... protruding from the hillside along a path that takes you to a big oak ..... so I followed the path. Honestly I had been all over that hillside .... this particular spot included ..... and without hesitation moved some duff and there it was ..... just like that ..... 30 seconds worth of walking and looking. In a place I had scoured before.
So ..... some history on this particular cacher that hid this cache .....
He has been known to publish a cache before he actually has it hidden. He has been caught twice before doing this. So I have to ask myself ..... did he do it again? Publish then hide? I know know know I looked right where this was. And it was NOT there on Sunday morning / afternoon. I even checked when I went back the second time.
I'm trying not to get angry ..... and just let it go ..... but that is not how this game is supposed to be played. I ended up 4th to find ( I thought it was third but two apparently were there together for second and third) ...... but I still question this guys tactics. With sore legs ..... I question his tactics .....
The End.
Peace. J.

Just Another Thursday
Once again my day was lost to other things than what I should be doing.
Off to Yreka this morning .... insurance stuff due again .... and of course I have procrastinated till the very last second ..... thank god for leap year and that extra day.
Then this afternoon I headed over to the Senior Center to meet with the current Bingo committee. Yes, I do lead an exciting life.
One thing I did make clear ..... I'm not there to get yelled at ..... so, if they feel the need to bitch about stupid stupid shit like the last time ..... I have no reason to VOLUNTEER my services. I'm 50 ..... not dead ..... and I don't live for Bingo. I volunteer solely because of my mom ..... she loves her Bingo and would be bummed if there were not enough people available to make sure it continues on. I also told the committee chairman lady that if the old "crew" don't like what we are doing or how we are doing it ..... they need to back off. They walked out on the job and were ready to let it go ..... so SHUT UP! This benefits them as well.
And of course one of the ladies that showed up today was one I about pushed away from me last Monday ..... she was up in my face ..... and I don't freaking care how old you are ..... trust me, if you are in my face you are going to get pushed away. Or punched out. One of the two. So back off.
Another beautiful day ..... sunny ..... and warmer ..... 55 degrees today. Our artichokes are showing some signs of life as well as the rhubarb. And the onions have shown some life as well. Its amazing what a little sunshine can do. Seriously ..... spring / summer can not get here soon enough to suit me. As I have said many times before.
So tomorrow I need to get up early and force myself to get moving. Thinking a little geocaching this weekend ..... ***fingers crossed***
And speaking of geocaching ..... the cache I hid last week ..... private property. One of my finders got his ass chewed apparently .... and the owner of the property "not amused". Well, there are no signs .... none, no "Private Property", no "No Trespassing", no fencing .... nothing ..... but the cacher that the owner found assured him I would remove the cache. He (the cacher) then contacted me. We had snow and rain for a couple days after that ..... I got over there on Monday ..... the cache was gone. So today I go back knock on the door of the closest house which was about 1/3 mile down the road .... opposite side of the road from where the cache was. It was a very quick visit as he told me without hesitation he had thrown it away. And I realized there was no reason to rant ..... it would only make things worse. The bad part is the coin someone had dropped into the cache. I guess I need to offer to replace it. I apologized for my mistake but feel that it was met on deaf ears. He said something about vandals .... but yet again, no signs at all .... no fencing ..... and close to the forest service boundary .... its like he is inviting vandals .... and most geocachers are not vandals .... most are very respectful folk. Done ranting.
I hope everyone's Thursday was grand. And enjoy what is left of your evening.
Tomorrow is another day .... yay ....
Peace. J.

WHAT I DID ON MY NEW YEARS EVE ;-)
The sun came out yesterday for a change. Skies were clear ... air frigid. A pleasant ending to 2007.
My goal was to have found 200 geocaches by the end of the year. I didn't make that goal. After five finds yesterday I ended 2007 with 170 finds. Money & depression took the hold that it can in the last few months and dominated my thoughts. As much as I wanted to go caching .... I didn't have the energy to make it happen.
Feeling a bit better in the last week or so the decision was made to make it out one last time in 2007. With Sunday's weather holding us back I almost felt as though it would not happen. But it did ..... finally.
So after a morning argument with Dave about what else .... money, we do some creative banking and manage to get gas in the car, a little extra for some munchies and off we go (any extra money these days have been going towards tires for the truck). I have a route planned, its a small outing as I have to be home by early afternoon for the rest of my day. Explained later.
The first cache was called Louie-U-ee. Its a spot on I-5 where you can get off the freeway in the middle of nowhere and get back on the other direction. And before you look at the pictures .... I'm half embarrassed to put these up. The weight gain is very obvious .... didn't realize how obvious till I compared pictures from last year to this year .... ouch!
Hidden in the fence post cap it was a micro cache with a log only. Quick find, sign and go.
Next stop was called Maytenth Big Springs. We have stopped at this place many times as it was in route to some property my father had bought and we sold after moving here. It was never developed due to lack of water. We sold it for the same price it was bought for in 1964. And we were lucky to get that.
I just love it when he faces me into the freaking sun. LOL cllecr had sent me a new coin to send on its way for her and I chose this spot to get it going. From here it can go either north or south, east or west with ease. Can't tell from the picture but Mt. Shasta is in view. The cache is hidden (very well I might add, damn) in a little park area next to the mini-mart.
A nice bridge out in the country .... thinking of putting a cache here. This was actually in route from the first cache to second cache. The snow covered mountain in the background is called the goose nest. It is said you don't plant your garden till the snow is off the goose nest .... a rule Dave and I generally ignore. Go figure.
From here we went into the actual "development" that we had owned the property in. We (Dave) goes here a lot to collect lava rock. And there is plenty of it. Growing up as a kid I new we owned property with Mt. Shasta as the view, but all I could really tell people about it is that it was lava rock and tumble weeds. The tumble weeds were actually Juniper trees and bushes.
The Mt. Shasta Vista (name of what would have been a subdivision had there been water) cache was hidden in an old Juniper snag .... just down the road from our old piece of ground. It was a good hide.
From here we headed out to Hwy 97 and headed to Cindy's Cache. This cache was hidden by the same gentleman that had hidden the previous cache. It was in memory of his late wife who died just recently. She had been introduced to geocaching in May of this year and fell in love with the sport instantly. She had received about five trackable items for her birthday and made up a cache with her birthday goodies to hide in celebration. She died suddenly without warning.
Signing the log at Cindy's cache. It was kind of a strange spot. An area wide enough for truckers to turn around or just pull off the Hwy for a rest .... there were plenty of piss bottles littering the area. We both thought was a strange place to put such a meaningful cache. Another reason to carry antibiotic hand gel. EWWW .....
The last cache of the day and my 170th find was called Emigrant Trail.
You gotta love the double glasses action going on here. Can't see without either pair .... sun or regular .... so you do what you gotta do. Double up. LOL It took me forever to find this cache .... and for the most part it was in plain sight. Sometimes I think we just look a bit to hard.
And of course .... as most of you know .... I can't head east without .....
a picture of Shasta in all her glory. Taken from the Louie Rd. cache.
I found out yesterday that Mt. Shasta now erupts about every 600 years .... it's been approximately 200 years since she last erupted. That is very good news.
We then took the long way home .... a relaxing scenic drive. I then had to get ready for part two of my day. I'll bet the anticipation is just killing you ....
Bingo. Yep .... the girl said .... Bingo. My darling lovely adorable mother let me know on Sunday that I was expected at Bingo on New Years Eve to help. After I got over the anger and went to the shop and screamed very loudly I just resolved myself to go. But the woman has to stop this shit.
I got our donation of finger food ready to go ..... chips and salsa .... downed two beers very very quickly .... smoked a large bowl .... grabbed a piece of Big Red (old and stale) and mom and off we went. To the senior center for Bingo. "We are always done before midnight." Believing that this was my irritation.
For the next seven hours I played banker at Bingo. Till well after Midnight. I would love to just bitch and bitch and bitch ..... but I came home $70.00 richer. Bingo was very very good to me last night.
After falling asleep sometime after 3:00 this morning .... I was awakened by Petey with sweet eye kisses letting me know he was hungry at about 6:30. I've been up since. A nap will be in order sometime today.
It is also moms birthday today. Not sure what we are going to do for her. Haven't even thought about it honestly. So .... guess I better.
Hope everyone has a wonderful New Years ....
Peace. J.
