Fish Pond @ MindSay
Its A Goldfish Roundup
A much better day today. Feeling more in tune with myself. Although not sure why as I had one of the worst nights of sleep that I've had in awhile.
My thigh muscles were doing something funky last night. It was like cramping but yet not cramping .... so today is a water day ..... flushing out the system ..... with all the crap I've been eating / drinking lately I've probably overdosed the muscles with toxins.
Going to exercise today ..... period. The mood is on a high a that is a good time to jump back on board. Then back outdoors to soak up a little more of that Vitamin D.
Sad to report our goldfish didn't make it through the winter this year. Which is our fault due to lack of keeping the ice off the pond. And the guilt over a certain water snake just tears at me more. Jen will understand. But anyway ..... our neighbors across the way have a large pond with a couple hundred goldfish in it. I decided that they wouldn't miss a couple. So for the last couple weeks I've been threatening to don the black ski mask, black leotards and gloves ..... fishing net and bucket and steal me some goldfish.
Ok, you are asking yourself ...... "Julie, why not just ask them for a few?". My response ..... "What is the fun in that!" Well, the no fun Julie won out and yesterday while out weeding I saw "Aunt Birdie" out puttering in the yard. Aunt Birdie is about 90. And has been chewing tobacco since she started teething as a baby. And she has no problem spitting ..... wherever. The age lines around her mouth stained brown. She is about 4'8" tall and wears a straw hat that swallows her whole ..... seriously, it looks like a little walking straw hat wondering around.
Aunt Birdie shares the double wide mobile with her niece Julie and her husband Leon. A single wide on the property houses Julie's two daughters from a previous marriage. Both in college. But that is neither here nor there for this story.
She happened to be looking over the pond which runs their picket fence line down the driveway that continues past their house to ours. And as simple as walking over and asking for a couple fish ..... I had permission to take them. But, taking them wasn't / isn't (have yet to catch them) so easy. They don't want to leave their pond. They are perfectly happy there. And with some sort of fish ESP every time I'd approach with the net they would retreat to the middle deepest part of the pond.
So while laying awake last night with legs doing whatever they were doing I pondered on how do have a successful goldfish roundup. I refuse to get into that pond ..... it needs cleaning. Badly. Herding them to one end with some sort of something maybe, but they are not stupid and they are fast. Dave thought maybe herding and getting underneath a bunch and flipping them out ..... I'm thinking maybe buying a couple at this point may be easier, granted not as much fun, but easier.
Dave is talking of moving back to Central California when we can, when life allows (the optometrist told my mom the other day her eyes suggest she could live another 15 years, I'm hunting down the optometrist and killing him, yep, or moving mom in with him and his family, lol)***. Seems like we are maybe going to end up going full circle. For me it is really hard. I want to lite where I can just stay without ever moving again. Can I be happy in Central California? In the foothills? If we stayed off the beaten track maybe, yes. Away from craziness and people, yes. Is that possible in the Central California foothills anymore? Debatable. ***This was meant with humor ..... I love my mom.***
Ok, babbled on enough and when Dave starts wondering in and out of the room being annoying its time to close. A bit of a jealousy factor with the computer sometimes. "Just want to see what your doing". Pretty sure he knows what I'm doing ..... lol.
Heading to Medford probably tomorrow or Friday to pick up the final sheets of insulation for the trailer. Then Dave can finish buttoning her up .... the wiring now done ..... the new stove/oven and refrigerator in place (new to me). A little bit of cupboard making to finish it off, the indoor/outdoor carpet put back in and I have me one cute stylin' little trailer. YAY! Look out river .... here we come!
Happy Hump Day all ......
Peace. J.

Our first day spent playing outside and I went fishing.....
Yesterday Jack, Matt and I all headed up to my folks house so that Matt could help my Dad with the "Bathroom Project". Jack and I planned on playing outside all day and hanging out in the backyard since the weather wasn't too bad. Well everything was going great until my Mom and I settled into our chairs and I heard a SPLASH. I jumped up and rushed over to the fish pond which resides on the other side of Jack's play house. Heart pounding in my chest what do I see but Jack face first in the pond, his legs lodged between a little bridge my mom has on the side of the pond which prevented him from going completely in. "Help, Get me out of here!" he hollered as I was fishing him out of the water. Luckily he was no worse for the wear, just soaked from head to ankles with only his shoes managing to stay dry. It seems he was leaning over the little bridge to retrieve a toy boat from the water something I had told him not to do the previous day and fell in. Man oh man was I scared. Jack scared? Nope, he gets out of the water and starts laughing. "I took a dip in the Pond, Mom!" he says. After sitting him down and explaining the dangers and how he is NEVER to lean over the pond or try to retrieve a toy on his own again or the pond will be drained I think he understood that he could have been in real danger if not for that bridge or my quick movement. My mom said she didn't know my arm could stretch so far and she never in her life has seen me move so fast! Man I really felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. Needless to say we cleaned him off, dried him off and changed his clothes and did not resume our outdoor activities as his coat and everything got drenched. All I can say is Thank God he is o.k. and I think I will recover from it one of these days. Talk about scary!
Saturday Babbles & Some Pictures Too
Getting ready to post some pictures from around the old homestead here .... or the "farm" as I like to call it. Actually, it's probably more like a freaking zoo .... !
Yesterday was a good day. I helped out again fixing lunchtime meals for the seniors. We did 37 homebound meals and 17 in house. Not to many showed up yesterday. Good eats, too. I really enjoy doing this. For such a small thing it makes me feel good. Really good. Ran home did some errands, cooked dinner and called it a day. Watched the tube for a bit then out like a light.
Now for some pic's ......
Chicken in a haystack! This little girl likes to lay her eggs out in the barn area where the hay is stacked. All the other chickens lay their eggs in the coop .... she refuses. We also have an egg eating chicken. I talked to a senior "rancher" lady yesterday and she said that's not uncommon. She recommended oyster shells in their diet to supplement something they may be lacking. Dave would rather throw her in a pot .... but I'm asking for a second chance with the supplement. Not sure if my case was heard or if it's chicken for dinner .....
The roto-rooster & his roto-hens ..... they do a fine job of rototilling & fertilizing the garden area. Can't wait till we can start planting .... ! Ready for those fresh veggies !!
Our frozen fish pond. It's starting to warm up a bit finally .... so hopefully this will thaw soon. Supposed to be 61 degrees here on Monday .... thats one big YAHOO! from this girl.
One of our "cold fish" ..... get it? hahahahhahahahahahah I just crack myself up .....
One of the three llamas ..... Maddy. Mona is in the background.
Mocha giving you a big smile ..... or getting ready to spit .... one of the two .... LOL
Mocha's mom ..... Mona .... they have the same big underbite ..... cute.
This photo was taken back in the fall. This is a part of the historical Route 66 heading into Ashland. It was a beautiful day.
Being extremely lazy again today ..... a bit of laundry, my never ending chore. Did taxes yesterday and filed them so thats done. Still have to get mom's done but don't think she has it all together yet. Think I'll head out and mail a letter a bit later and pick up some diet soda ..... I'm craving carbonation for some reason.
A very good friend from my past emailed me the other day and it was very good to hear from her. I gave her my Mindsay address and am hoping she stops in for a visit. If you do ..... hey girl !!! Thanks for stopping by!
Things have seemed nothing but hectic lately. It feels really good to have a "friend" here in the valley. After almost 8 years of having none. It's nice just to have someone other than Dave and mom to talk with. The dogs are probably tired of having to listen to me too ..... so they are probably happy as well.
Think we have like a 30% chance of rain today and it's a bit cloudy, but not threatening .... at least I don't think so. Just glad things seem to be warming up a bit. Guess I'll quit babbling now ..... hoping everyone is having a good weekend. As usual things seem slow in here on a Saturday.
Peace. J.
