Firefly @ MindSay
Rather a complicated composition, if you think about it.
But, working as a barista, here's what we came up with.
Take a God-shaped glass.[1]
Start with two Tbsp St. Francis of Assisi.[2]
Mix with one Tbsp Florence Nightingale.[3]
Set it aside.
In a clear shaker,
Take three oz. Kaylee (from the Firefly series, by sheer coincidence*)[4]
Separately, four oz. Juno (teen pregnancy replaced with any of God's Selection of Life Crises)[5],
with a full shot of Elwood P. Dowd**[6]stirred in.
Shake together.
By now the Francis Florentine will have settled into a dense heart at the bottom of the glass.
Pour Kaynowd over Francis Florentine, without stirring.
Top with hazelnut foam.
Salt with Stitch.[7]
Garnish with Victor Borge.[8]
Wait, let's do this with pics.

Serve.
And serve.
And serve.
And serve.
And serve.
Because without serving, it's just not a Firefly.
[1] Made in the image, after all.
[2] Francis can be unstable in anything but a God-shaped glass, but a splendid and unexpected foundation in the proper setting.
[3] Florence puts out a light glow that will be visible in darkness.
[4] Kaylee will begin to brightly glow almost immediately upon contact with, well, anything.
[5] The main body of the drink; strong, quirky, snappy, a little savvy, and often random.
[6] Very mellow, calm flavor, weaves through the others without ever quite blending.
[7] Crackles, bubbles, occasionally even pops.
[8] Adds a flavor of straight whimsy, tempered by a touch of class.
* The name "Phirefly" came about a year before I ever saw the series - they weren't intentionally linked.
**This comes very much from my Dad. If a recipe was made for my Dad, Elwood P. Dowd would take up as much of the recipe as either Kaylee or Juno takes in mine.
- caffeine (namely coffee, diet cherry coke, and chocolate)
- flip flops
- pineapple
- peach scented candles
- vacations (the main reason why I am still slogging through teaching)
- Joss Whedon (not so much him as his brainchildren...BTVS, Serenity/Firefly, Fray)
- my 'pocket rocket'
- cheap paints in a billion colors at Wally Mart
- sunny days
- the ocean
I didn't realize how extensive Adam Baldwin's acting career is until I sat down tonight to create a Mindsay wiki page tribute to him. Infact I had almost forgotten that I've seen Adam in so many films -- including seeing him on the big screen in his debut role in "My Bodyguard" when I was only 9 years old, yeah, way back in 1979! After reviewing the original trailer, seeing 16 year old Adam really brought back so many memories. So besides doing the usual "yeah, here's one of my favorite actors" things with a wiki page (like every other fan has done online), I was inspired to write an original article in tribute. I attempted to hyper link as many films and sites as possible to give you, the reader, a complete-as-possible biography. But more than a bio, I wrote a few things in response to some of the quotes by Adam I've found online. I realized, yet again, that you can't get to know someone just by the body of their work alone. Adam's an actor, but he's a real person, too, and I respect that immensely.
But at the same time, I gotta admit that I spent waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time developing that page. As well as completing a few more focusing on the Firefly/Serenity cast: Sean Maher and Gina Torres.
My other cast member pages are: Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Summer Glau, and Nathan Fillion.
(If you're a fan, be sure to add some of these actor/resses to your favorites list in your Mindsay profile!)
And in keeping with the theme I began with each additional actor wiki I've mentioned, I have to say that Adam Baldwin reminds me of freshly cut green grass, Spanish moss, green tea, black leather, new car smells, and the way the paper of old books feel when I page through them really fast. Most people would say that Adam is all brawn, but I sense his intelligence. His forehead is very broad, his eyes glinting with the sort of cocky wisdom that can take you by surprise -- you can't blow this kind of character off! Maybe you'll pick up on that, too. That is, if you indulge my habit of making these wiki pages.
Sean Maher reminds me of urban landscape paintings, a night club pulsing with a techno beat, cranberry juice, wool knit sweaters, and the brightest blue of midday sunlit sky.
Gina Torres makes me think of honeybees, sunflowers, coconut oil body lotion, Grecian urns, and the bubbles in amber. Gina's look has long inspired me to write about the sunflower nymph Clytie, too.
I have a deep appreciation for actors and their performances very much influence my storytelling style. For instance, while I was compiling information for the Adam Baldwin wiki, he started to remind me of one of my characters in a series of fable-like stories I wrote about five or six years ago and this has inspired me to review/edit that story. He's not the only actor that inspires me, and not all of them starred in Firefly, of course, but that's why I do these things... it's not just the fan in me, it's the writer and designer. I'm glad I could share my tributes with you and hope they inspire you to take another, deeper, look at people you may write off as just another celebrity.
What will my next wiki pages be about? Ron Glass (to finish up the Firefly cast wikis, of course), Metalocalypse, and Lizette& -- but it might take a few more weeks for those to come about. I'm not that obsessive of a fan!
