Entry 20. [Despairing] --- Oh what the fuck.

Despairing Smiley

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good things about today:

- We had a fire drill at break, and got 10 minutes extra because of it, hence, missing 10 minutes of Science.

- Science was a piss easy lesson.

- I got my results for my Science resit exam; an A, so I'm quite pleased.

- I got another bit of #1263 artwork finished in the library.

- I came home and played iSketch with Miraan, Adam, Ayshea and Stephen. It was fun, we had laughs.

- I talked to Adam for ages over MSN, sending each other really hilarious sound files.

- I laughed so much at a screenshot from our iSketch game, I almost crapped my pants. - Really, I was totally touching cloth. :)

[Though you may ask what's good about that one, I like to laugh, regardless of the consequences.]

Bad things about today:

- Results of my ICT exam, totally not happy. Two grades lower than I wanted.

- Thus, I have now given up on ICT.

- Thus, making only 3 out of 9 subjects that I still give a shit about.

- Coursework deadlines are indeed, stressing me out.

- I was tired throughout the whole day.

- I cried down my aisle after school, but Sammie comforted me.

- Claire is ignoring me. She seems really angry at me, and I don't know what I've done. I think she doesn't like me anymore.

- Emily isn't back... I haven't heard from her at all. No Mindsay comments, no emails, no anything...

...Where is my darling Emilpops......?

The String Cheese Fire Drill Hotline from Hell

Yesterday was an utterly crappy day in the orifice.  It was, unquestionably, the busiest day I've had in two and a half years here.  Three conference calls, during which I got to take the notes.  Joy.  And a few bigger projects, all of which were given to me in the morning, and needed to be finished by 4:30.  I got them done, but I literally didn't have a minute to spare, all day.  Nor did I take my afternoon break.

Tomorrow will be an off-site meeting all day.  The actual meeting will be five hours, during which I will (you guessed it) take the meeting minutes.  I hate taking minutes... even more than I hate the other pissy little crap that's part of my job.

I'm not whining, exactly.  I'm just putting all this down as a formal reminder to myself of why I really, really need to make this career shift happen.

To that end, last night I had my interview for the suicide hotline gig.  It went well.  Training is this weekend, plus the last weekend of the month, both days, from 9 - 5.  However, I already have plans this Saturday.  Much needed downtime after this nasty-ass week in the office.

I will, of course, be playing D&D.  Yeah, one could say that the training is more important... even though it's largely an orientation and policy/procedure day.  But I'm bringing two new folks to the game, neither of whom know the others.  The weekend in the middle isn't an option, so if I were to cancel, it would push things back by a month.  And considering that one of the current players is moving away in August...  Well, this is taking precedence.

I did, however, get the materials for the training, and will study the chapters in question before going in on Sunday.  And my interviewer apparently considered this perfectly acceptable.

A co-worker today brought in a case of individually wrapped string cheese, and started doling it out to us.  She plopped about 15 of them down on my desk.

I echo ladyluck's sentiment

About once a year, we have a fire drill here in our building.  I'm one of the lucky ones designated as a "searcher."  This means that, when the fire alarm sounds,  I have a region for which I have to check all rooms to make sure they're empty.

Because I guess you never know when one of your co-workers is going to be napping at their desk or something.  I dunno.  It seems rather pointless to me.  If it's not a drill, you're going to know.  And you're going to get the hell out of the building.  And if you think your work is more important than your life, then you pretty much deserve to die of smoke inhalation.

Teaching tonight, and according to the roster, the majority of the class will be male.  That's really unusual.  Typically, females outnumber males 3-to1, at least.

My friends Opal and Noah have completed their relocation.  They've ended up in the panhandle of West Virginia, about 20 miles outside of Wheeling.  Interestingly, I've spent some time in that area.  My older sister used to live there, back in the 70s.  I'd sometimes visit her for a month during the summer when I wasn't in school.  She was a school teacher, then, and so also had summers free.

Another friend, whom I'll just call "K," just moved to Oakland.  K is, in case you're keeping track, the one mentioned in the third-to-last paragraph of this entry.  In an email to her this morning, I suggested that she come up to Sacramento on one of the weekends I'm appearing at the State Fair.  I doubt she'll take me up on the offer, but you never know.  Weirder things have happened.

Lightning strikes... and thunder crashes

Well, its certainly been an interesting couple of days. Yesterday morning we had our fire drill at 6:25 - I can't remember the last time I was outside to see the sun rise. :*P Then a thunderstorm roled in, and at 7:58, a bolt of lightning struck the building one over from mine. The thunder was immediate and the LOUDEST bang I have ever heard. Two windows were blown out by it and a lot of tree branches fell - but that was just the initial visible effects. The circuit breakers for the building were obviously thrown by it, so they all had to be reset, then maintenance spent the day fixing the handicapped accessable doors which got messed up by it. Then they discovered that it had also fried the cable lines and the fire-system lines that connect each building to the central maintenance office. So we were without TV and had to have another fire drill so that they could make sure the in-building systems worked, even though we were told that we'd have to call 911 if they were actually set off, since central wouldn't be able to tell on their computers. Drama, drama, drama.

Then today, I've dealt with three incidents so far, and since this is my suicide weekend for duty, I'm sure they won't be the last. Oh well- TGIF :*)

My day as usual

Well, today was an awesome day! I had a great day. Well today in homeroom, Chet and I actually had a conversation today! lol. Well he always says stuff like "Leave me alone" "dont talk 2 me", etc. LOL. Also, I got 2 miss 1st and 2nd period today cause of the extra band practice. It was fun. Then 3rd period, we had a practice fire frill. It was funny cause Miss Zombek came in and said "Fire Drill, there is gonna be a fire drill, but I wasnt suppose 2 tell u that!!" lol. In 4th period, I.T., Mr.L'Altrelli wasnt here so we wasnt allowed 2 use the power tools so we couldnt do anything. 5th period, Science, was great 2. We was in class and once again, Ray and Jake were acting funny and kinda wierd. Well, I wasnt really paying attention and Ray was like clapping his hands 4 some reason and he started hitting me on the head! And I was like "Hey!". But it was funny 4 some reason. And Jake was cracking up laughing 4 some reason also! Jake is sooo funny!! =) Well in English, we got back our "Flowers for Algernon" packets back and I got a 4 and a 99%! YAY! Well today when I was going 2 RR 7th period, there was a fight outside the room I was going into. This kid grabbed that other kid and like threw him 2 the floor and smacking his head off the floor and was punching him in the back!! Mrs.Wilkerson and Mrs.Wray had 2 come out. At lunch, Rachel said that Jake has like no emotions. And I was like why? And she said that she was talking 2 D.J. and she asked him "In the morning, do u just pick out a shirt and just wear it?" And he said "Yes". So Rachel asked Jake the same question and he said "Yeah" And she said when he said it, he had like no emotions! lol. When im around him, he is happy, funny, staring(lol) and stuff. In German, we just did book work. In Social Studies, we watched a movie on D-Day and Danny was having fun drawing w/ my gel pens! In Powerblock, we didnt play in big band so I talked 2 Tonya and Christa. Tonight was our band concert! We did great and awesome!! =) Well, no more band at the middle school.....how sad.....=( So after the concert, me and my family went 2 Ritas and Burger King. While we were eating, my sister, Ashton, and I was jamming 2 Green Day!! lol. Plus now I got a Green Day t-shirt. Well i g2g. Im gonna go 2 bed.

Just some quick stuff.

Tonight, I am in fact watching Soho Square tonight after Revelations. As for Millions, dunno when i'm going to get to make it out to the theater, hopefully some time this week. If not some time this week i'll most certainley see it on sunday after I see The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Getting away from the movies for a second, i'm getting pretty fucking sick and tired of my school. Today during homeroom, the fire alarm goes off, some we're all thinking holy shit a fire drill. So we go outside, and its cold as fuck, and all 90% of us had on was a t-shirt and jeans. Most fire drills last not even 5 minutes, but as the time began to pass it became clear that there was some other shit going down.A fire truck eventually pulls up, but that goes to the other side of the building and then shit died down again.10 minutes later we all eventually go back inside and learn that (and this is the bullshit example the school gave out) the sensors on the fire alarms were faulty and the alarm went off. We spent thirty-five minutes in the cold because of faulty fucking sensors. Maybe if the school wouldnt spend money on useless shit like a tv studio, school dances and gym field trips to the golf course they could put some money into improving the saftey systems in the school, or, god forbid, NEW BOOKS!? Maybe even expand the printing budget so kids dont have to share worksheets, or hell, they could even improve the bullshit computer systems. I'd also like to point out that the school for a period of time took bottle caps away from kids because some of the kids would flick them (they'd put em between their fingers or some shit and they could fling those things FAR, dunno how they manage doing that, I can never do it right) and they aparrentley cause "serious injury", a fucking BOTTLE CAP. Gee, call me a fucking radicalist, but maybe the lunch attendent folks should pay better attention and maybe even see when these kids are doing it and get THEM in trouble, use one to set an example maybe. OR, instead of completely over reacting they should disciplen (I know I spelt that wrong) these ignorant fucking kids who feel the need to punch someone in the face when they accidently bump into them in the hall? HUH?

YOU PATHETIC FUCKWITS?
