Going About My Day and Then...........

So, I was going about my day.  I had finally stopped procrastanting (sp?) and got off of chat, neopets, mindsay, and a few other sites and got busy.

I finally finished dejunking my room.  And while cleaning out my closet, I found one bat, one 12 inch softball and one 11 inch softball, my first catching pud, my last pair of highschool softball cleats, six batting gloves, one lefty mitt, and an equipment bag.  With a suprise!:O  I always wondered where that dayum box of condoms in my senior year had gone too!  Now I know!  At the bottom of my softball equipment bag!:D  Looks like my mom only took the main equipment bag of my softball gear and handed over to my diabetic counselor.  I put all the gear in the bag and it is sitting next to the mudporch door so I can hand it over to my mom's to give to my diabetic counselor.  Once I meet my goals, THEN I can have all my gear back!

I changed my bed sheets (the bi weekly changing!:D), rounded up Randy's and my dirty laundry, put away clothes and had just gone down stairs to start a load of laundry when I got the phone call from the school!

Secratary:  "Jackie?  Can you come up to the school?  DeLaney smashed her fingers into the class room door somehow!"

Me:  "Dayum!  Is she bleeding?  Can she bend her fingers at all?"

Secratary:  "No blood, but lots of swelling and discoloration.  Hold on let me see if she can bend her fingers.  It is on the first knuckles that got it.  She can bend all her first knuckles with out pain but her left ring finger."

Me:  "Dayumit all to hell!  Okay, let me get dressed, call the doc's office to see what they want to do and I will be up."

I got dressed (it was cleaning/lounge day so I took the kids in my jam jams and was still in them!), put a call into the doc's office, called my mom and asked if she could look at the finger before I decieded to drive to the city with DeLaney.  And got on the road.

Luckly by the time I got there, (they were icing the finger down) the swealing had gone way down and according to the Mission Secratary not the school Secratary, the discoloration had gone from angry deep purple down to a angry pink color.  She still couldn't bend that left ring finger though and she had a good size dent in the finger with a bit of dried blood but nothing major.  I signed her out of school and we headed down to the Tribal Clinic so Granny could take a look at her finger for me.

I didn't think it was broke but I wasn't taking any chances.  My mom agreed with me that she didn't think it was broke but suggested I take her up to the doctor anyway.  I again called the doctors office to let them know we were coming up, stopped back at the school and signed Coltin out.  (Randy is on the road, my mom didn't get off of work till 6 this evening, and yay not really an emerency so my dad wasn't going to go pick my boy up for me!)

We were right.  It isn't broke just badly brused.  Doctor didn't even order xrays but we are going to buddy wrap the left ring finger to her tall man finger for a week.  If her nail turns black or if she complains that she can't move it at all, then we are to take her back up to get the nail taken off and then get some xrays.  The doc did clean out the dent and put a small gauze wrap around that and suggested we keep that on for about 3 or 4 days so it doesn't get infected.

What a day.

I treated the kids to what Randy calls "Dog Food" aka McDonald's for an early supper.  When we got home, I dosed DeLaney up with some Motrin and made her ice down her fingers again.  Then we went about our afternoon/evening chores.

I did manage to get a few more loads of laundry done, fiddled with my sewing machine (it is acting up) and managed to get one panel of a set of bottom curtains done for my kitchen.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that we have no more incidents of injuries at school this year.  DeLaney is really worried about testing now for our next taekwondo rank.  We have a couple of finger tip punchies that we have in our form and have to demenstrate on the bags.  I told her not to worry if her fingers are still hurting when it comes time for testing we will let Mr. Johnson know that she can't punch with her left hand and he would understand.  He is allowing mommy to forgo the jump kicks and take steps instead so I dont' injure my knee.

She seemed okay with that.

Now I am off to procrstanate some more.

Newfound Respect For The Lowly Cactus
Cactus needle in Josie's finger 2.jpg hosted for free by ImageShack Cactus in Josie's finger 1.jpg hosted for free by ImageShack cactus needle.jpg hosted for free by ImageShack

Yes, that is my finger in the picture.  I got a damned cactus bud stuck on my finger!  Val and I were out hiking and at one point she looked down at her shoe and saw this big Cholla bud sticking out from the top of her shoe.  I know how nasty these things are, I've heard story after story how these things will stick to anything, and how hard they are to pull out.  And, I can report all those things are true.  The best thing to use to pull these things out is a fine-toothed comb, but I didn't have one, so I picked up two long, flat rocks and used them to pull up the bud, which worked great until the bud "jumped" out and then immediately attached itself to my finger.  It didn't immediately hurt, but it looked pretty darn nasty hanging off of my finger.  Since we didn't want to have it get stuck into any other hand or body part of either mine or Val's, we used Val's hat to pull it off.  That worked for the most part, and it hurt like a mother*^%&!# when she pulled it out, but it did leave behind 3 or 4 little buds.  Val then pulled 2 more of the "smaller" ones out, and that's when I had her stop because it hurt so bad, so, so bad.  So, there we were on the hiking trail in the middle of the preserve with nothing else around us.  We had no choice but to haul ass back to the car and go home to pull the rest of the needles out.  I never walked so damn fast in my life.  If I didn't bend my finger, and held it still it didn't hurt, so I just focused on getting to the car.  As we were walking back I decided that my best bet was to have the rest of the needles removed at an Urgent Care center, because the thought of Val yanking the rest of them out just horrified me, and I didn't want to scare the shit out of her with my screaming and cussing, which I knew I would have done because that's how much it hurt to pull them out.  So, we finally made it back to the car.  Val drove me home so I could get my insurance card, she and I took pictures of the offending cactus and my finger and then we went to the Urgent Care center.  The look on the faces of the receptionist and nurse was priceless, "How can we help you?"  I smiled, held up my finger and very calmly said, "I need to get this pulled out."  Yeah, they were very helpful, and much nicer to me after that.  I was glad I decided to go to the Urgent Care center because the doc did a very good job of numbing my finger before he started yanking.  It was uncomfortable, but not scream-out-loud painful.  I know the pictures above are blurry, but Val took a really good one and when she gets back home she says she will post it.  So, that was the tale of my latest adventure and now you know why I have a newfound respect for the lowly cactus.

First Weekend of My Life as a Human Pin Cushion

Tomorrow will start my first weekend of my life as a human pin cushion.  This should be interesting.  Because this will show if I can handle being out and about with my machine and puncture gun.

To start my weekend off:  Both hubby and I will take the kids to school.  So we can drop our daughter's cookies for her birthday off to her teacher, and let both kids' teachers know that we will be picking them up instead of htem getting on the bus in the afternoon.  And that we will also be picking up H and J since they will be spending the night with our daughter DeLaney.

Then we will go to the post office so I can mail out my cousin's holiday card to China and mail out my new pen pal's first letter.  I should have mailed it a week and a half ago but I am sure she will understand when I write her again to let her know what has been going on.  I should also mail out the last of my Holiday cards tomorrow but I doubt I will get them out.  I still have letters to print off for 40 more cards!:D  The first 40 went out 2 weeks ago.  And I am only doing immedite family and have half of my address book left for relatives so I am not sure how many of my friends will get cards this year, since we be broke.  And I can't send out my usual of 150-200 cards.

After the post office, hubby and I are heading up to Liberal, KS so I can get our kids' holiday presents and some diabetic type food, since the grocery stores down here don't cater to diabetics.  I am finding out this area doesn't have a lot of diabetics.  I still haven't heard from the dietian.  So my mom is going to have one of my highschool friend's mother call me.  She was the director of the Diabetic research team at the hospital and now she is something else to do with Diabetes at the hospital now that the research thing is over with.  I am also debating if I break down and spend between 20-50 bucks on hubby for a present.  Even though I said no presents this year for us.  I just hate the fact we won't have anything to open.  My mom usually gives us a hundred bucks but she has loaned us money this year and I went to pay her back a hundred when I had the money and she said to keep it for the holidays.  I paid bills with it:D

Then once we get back from Liberal, we have to go to the regular grocery store and pick up two weeks of food for everyone and get snacks for 4 kids tomorrow night.  After that we have to go to the storage unit and get our queen size camping air mattress out so the girls have something to camp out on in my living room tomorrow night.  Next we have to go to this wally world so I can pick up my test strips and my prescript florid for my teeth.  Finally we have to go pick up 4 kids from school.

After I get everyone settled down, order pizza for the night, I have enough time to run to the YMCA to meet my friend Tara and pick up popcorn that I bought from her son the boy scout during soccer season.  Going to give one can to the landlords......might lace it with laxatives but hubby says I can't:D  Pick the pizza up and then go home and wrangle three 8 year old girls and 1 seven year old boy and a 37 year old man:D

Saturday we are takign the kids to the movies.  DeLaney hasn't picked her movie out yet.  Before we go we will open bday presents and eat lunch and have cake.  Or I should say everyone but me will have cake:P

So this should be interesting to see if I can remember to take all my medication and do all my finger pricks running all over Good Goddess creation!

On the up note, the kids are being really great about things.  It helps that we already bake, broil or grill most of our foods, they love veggies and fruits and we don't let them have a lot of sugars and junk foods.  Both kids have been taking turns holding my machine while i squeeze blood on to the strip.  DeLaney even went and broke out my first aid gloves!:D  Coltin has finally asked if he could prick me.  I don't think so, he is my lil growsome and violent is kewl child:D  He might try to get even with mommy with a prick for making him do homework right after school!
