Final Fantasy @ MindSay
Good Birthday
I had a pretty good birthday yesterday. My parents got me a really awesome Battleship game and $100 which I promptly spent today at the mall. Yesterday, I even got a message from 2 school friends wishing me a happy birthday. I figured everyone from school had forgotten about me.
At the mall today, I spent about $70. I bought the Final Fantasy: Advent Children DVD, Death Note 2: The Last Name DVD, and a huge 3' tall wall scroll of Sephiroth. I was super excited when I found out that the DVD's are actually subtitled and not stupid dubs. Nothing is worse than hearing Sephiroth sound like he's about 13 years old. When we got home I made my dad watch Advent Children with me and then afterwards I holed up in my room for 3 hours to watch the Death Note movie. Too bad they were sold out of the 1st Death Note movie. Oh well, it's not like I haven't seen it 3 or 4 times, right?

Our God, He's Gone Insane
I was recently thinking about why I used to be obsessed and infatuated with Jeffrey Dahmer. (He's a serial killer from Wisconsin). I used to think I liked him so much because he was hot and he was gay, but I think I've finally figured out why I picked him out among the thousands of other serial killers. Unlike most other serial killers, Dahmer actually KNEW that he was doing something wrong and he was sorry for what he did. I guess the pain and loneliness that he felt was too much for him to handle. Now a lot of people like Ted Bundy, but, to me, Bundy is a fucking douche bag. He had no remorse for his crimes and even said in an interview that he had a Ph.D. in killing. Bundy was too egotistical.
I didn't spend 8+ hours today on the computer like I normally do - what a fucking surprise! I was mostly reading "The Vampire Lestat" and watching fucking Pokemon episodes on TV. Meh - what a fulfilling day I had.
I was watching a clip of the ending of Crisis Core yesterday on Youtube and was just amazed at the quality. (I also have to admit that I got a little choked up too). Each little hair on Cloud's head blew - everything was just so detailed. It made Cloud look even more beautiful! Haha. But seriously, technology has really come pretty far and continues to advance. I wonder what kinds of shit we'll have in 20 or 30 years? Will our video game characters become even more beautiful than they are now? I can't imagine that!
By the way, what is up with the Japanese and their need to make almost every male character look androgynous? They all look so damn feminine, so gorgeous! Not that I mind or anything... *wink wink* I guess it's because Japanese men appear to have very feminine features, some of them anyway.

San Japan 1.5 - San Antonio, TX: My First Anime Convention
Note: Heavily Loaded entry full of pictures. 56k users, you have been warned!
On Saturday, August 9th, 2008, Cynthia, her brother and I took a trip to San Antonio, TX to attend the San Japan 1.5 Anime Convention. We left Sugar Land, TX / Katy, TX at around 8:45am and arrived at San Antonio at 11:40am. The drive was pretty peaceful. Considering that I was driving my new 2008 Honda Civic Si, it was a piece of cake. The navigation system of my car helped us get around town. We also brought along MP3 CDs of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop for our listening pleasure, but eventually tuned in to my XM Radio's comedy channels.
It was pretty easy finding the Auditorium. Once we saw a bunch of otakus in costume, we knew that we finally made it. We went in, we registered and we roamed around for a bit. Now when I saw the dealers area, I came, I saw, I ^_^!!!
The Auditorium, San Antonio, TX
About 90% of the people there were in costume. It was a totally different world for me, but I knew I was going to enjoy this! Once we got to the dealers area, I started taking pictures. Here's a few pictures I took while I was down there (Dealers / Artist area):
Great Manga artists, but forgot their names.
I bought a "badge" from them with a Mooninite saying
"I hope you can see this, Boston because I'm doing it as hard as I can."
The Dealers Area, lots and lots of merchandise I can't afford!
More merchandise
How to draw Manga books
My girlfriend, looking at the "How to draw Manga" books
Misty from Pokemon?
Pikachu!!! (Pokemon)
A figurine I wouldn't mind having
More figurines I wouldn't mind having (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Master Chief (Halo) and Counter Strike dude...?
A Jedi or a Sith? I learned that it is typical for Star Wars / Star Trek people to visit anime conventions in costume.
Sakura (Naruto) and Kite (.hack)
(Thanks beccaface)
Rikku (Kingdom Hearts)
OMG, it's Jenova (Final Fantasy VII)
Just a 1upper... ;) Toad
Dunno, but that costume is pretty awesome!
I want this T-Shirt!!!!
Ok, so I purchased a few things: [adult swim] t-shirt, a Shinobi Bladerunner ninja sword, and a sterling silver cross (from Hell Girl). After this, we went to the other side of the Anime Convention, which was held at the Holiday Inn Tropicano Riverwalk. On our way there, I took some more pics:
...?
Otaku invasion!!! ;)
Once we got into the Holiday Inn El Tropicano Riverwalk, here are some of the pics I took:
Jet and Julia (Cowboy Bebop), BEST Cosplay!!!
Mugen (Samurai Champloo), not the best, but I give this guy lots of credit
(I was wearing a Samurai Champloo shirt)
Rikku (Final Fantasy X2)
After that, we went back to the Auditorium to find my girlfriend's brother. We ran into a few interesting peoples:
Gendo Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Then we found her brother. We went back into the Auditorium to watch the Chibi Project, no comment... Then we ran into these people:
Chun Li (Street Fighter)
My girlfriend with some girl dressed like Edward Elrich (Full Metal Alchemist)
Reno and Elena (The Turks, Final Fantasy VII)
We decided to take a break from the convention and decided to walk to the Alamo and to the San Antonio River Center:
A random picture of me (yes, I shortened my hair, stop laughing)
The Alamo (me on the left)
Me and my lovely girlfriend
The River Center
After that, we returned to the Holiday Inn to get a glimpse of what's left of the anime convention.
American Tail?
Spike Spiegel and Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop). BEST Cosplay!!!
A character from .hack (left) and someone dressed in a halloween costume (right)
The longer we stayed, the more it felt like home was closer... but it wasn't. We drove for about three hours to get back to Sugar Land, but the drive wasn't all that bad.
Here's a list of the Anime Conventions that I plan to visit:
Security Level: Low (Public / Everybody)

- Oni-Con: November 21-23, 2008 @ George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, TX
- Ikkicon: February 6-8, 2009 @ Hilton Austin, Austin, TX
- Anime Matsuri: April 10-12, 2009 @ The Woodlands Waterway Marriot Hotel @ Convention Center, The Woodlands, TX
(this is going to present a bit of a problem because...) - KamiKazeCon: April 10-12, 2009 @ JW Marriot Hotel Houston, Houston, TX
(...I planned to attend this one.)
Take that, you oversized lump of steak.
I defeated Behemoth King. Yay.
My throat hurts. Other than the BK news it's been a rather uneventful weekend. I decided not to go out cause I wanted to a) save money and b) have some me-time. So I spent most of it in bed watching Scrubs.
Charlie M has put up her photos from Bee's party. The majority of them are actually quite funny, but there's a lot of... ethically questionable ones thrown in there. Just as well we can all blame it on alcohol.
Back to work tomorrow, same old routine. Forthcoming highlights include catching up with Linz, which I was meant to do yesterday but had to drop out, and, well, sleeping in on Saturday morning. Could be fun. Thankfully though, we're nearly halfway through January, which means we're one half-month closer to August 8th, the end of my placement.
I can hardly wait.

FFXII blog number one
Since I got back from work at 5pm last night, I've added 9 hours to my Final Fantasy XII game clock, bringing it to 175:03:51. I've had the game for 11 months now. Anyway. I decided I'd temporarily give up on my unsuccessful attempts at beating the Behemoth King in order to get some of the more elusive weapons in the game. Put it this way, I now realise why they're so elusive.
First off I went for the Durandal. This was the easiest to get so far, after being able to steal a Leshach Halcyon at the first attempt from a Leshach Entite (not bad considering there's only a 6% chance of stealing one). The problem there was getting the snowstorms to start, taking about 15 minutes of re-entering the Paramina Rift. Emperor Scales weren't too hard either, having to Poach the Archæoævis in the Zertinan Caverns - 7 Poaches got me the three Scales I needed. After having already sold a few Lifewicks, I got the Durandal an hour after I started getting the required loot.
The Saggitarius bow was a pain. I started at about 7pm and didn't get it until four hours of gameplay later. Starting with the 3 Beastlord Horns, these were obtained by Poaching the Humbaba in the Mosphoran Highwaste, took a couple of hours. The Ash Wyrm, also at the Highwaste, dropped a Moon Ring after the third battle, which was lucky too. I had already sold 2 Moon Rings in the past so I only needed the one.
The problem was the 4 Saggitarius Gems. I spent the rest of the night in the Henne Mines, working my way down to the areas where the Hecteyes lived and from there, chaining them. After three hours reaching a chain of 89 Hecteyes, I had only obtained two of the gems and gave up as my eyes were burning. Next morning though, I tried a different approach and went to the Stilshrine Of Miriam to steal the gems from the Oilings that lived there. Annoyingly, I got two gems in only 8 steals, also with only a 6% chance of the gem appearing. Pah, curse you, chance.
Lastly I've spent two hours this morning getting the ingrediants for Serpentarius, one of the three ingrediants for the Tournesol sword. I have one piece of the required three Serpentarius so far. One ingrediant is the Snake Skin, dropped by only one non-rare enemy in the game, the Wildsnake in the Giza Plains. I had to wait half an hour for the Dry Season and even then, there's only one Wildsnake in the Plains so I had to refresh the area loads. I got 14 Snake Skins after about half an hour, selling one of these to get my first piece of Serpentarius.
I knew where to get Serpent Eyes - the Basilisks in the Feywood, probably the most annoying place in FF history. Two of these are needed for each piece of Serpentarius, and after chaining 56 Basilisks I picked up the four Eyes I needed. Now I need High Arcanas... and now these need three ingrediants of their own. So to summarise: I'm getting the ingrediants (Arcanas, Feystones and Souls Of Thamasa) to get one of the ingrediants (High Arcana) to get one of the ingrediants (Serpentarius) of the Tournesol.
Yeah, I have a headache from reading that last bit too.
