Fall 2008, Vol. 10
To all our friends, and fellow Reiki Practitioner’s from around the world International and Domestic Welcome to our fall Tree of Life Reiki Newsletter.
Fall has finally arrived!
Reiki and Other Healing Modalities Questions & Answers:
Please e-mail us any questions you might have regarding our classes, or perhaps you have specific questions about Reiki. We will do our best to answer them in upcoming newsletters.Question: We seem to be asked this question repeatedly, How does a distant Attunement work?
Answer: All that is needed for the Reiki attunement to be successful is the Reiki Masters intent (belief) to give a Reiki attunement and the recipients intent to receive the Reiki attunement. The entire process is not up to us to make it work we just convey a set of attunement instructions. Simply said, the attunement is based on Reiki intelligence, we are just the conduit of the process. This works for any of the healing modalities as well as Reiki.

http://www.treeoflifereiki.comOctober Moon is A Waning Crescent Moon or 4% of the full Moon.
A Brief Explanation of the Moon Phases:
What is the phase of the moon? The changing shape of the bright part of the Moon that we see is called its phase. In the month of October the Moon will start out a mere sliver in the night sky, gradually evolving nightly until the middle of the month where it will be at its fullest phase. In the remaining days of the month it will diminish in size back to a mere sliver.
The phases of the moon are caused by the relative positions of the earth, sun, and moon. The moon goes around the earth in 27.3 days, or 27 days 7 hours 43 minutes, on average. This measurement is relative to the stars and is called the sidereal period or orbital period. However, because of the earth's motion around the sun, a complete moon cycle (New Moon to New Moon) appears to earthbound observers to take a couple of days longer: 29.5305882 days to be exact. This number is called the synodic period or "lunation", and is relative to the sun.
The sun always illuminates the half of the moon facing the sun (except during lunar eclipses, when the moon passes through the earth's shadow). When the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth, the moon appears "full" to us, a bright, round disk. When the moon is between the earth and the sun, it appears dark, a "new" moon. In between, the moon's illuminated surface appears to grow (wax) to full, then decreases (wanes) to the next new moon.
The edge of the shadow (the terminator) is always curved, being an oblique view of a circle, giving the moon its familiar crescent shape. Because the "horns" of the moon at the ends of the crescent are always facing away from the setting or rising sun, they always point upward in the sky. Its also fun to seek out paintings or pictures which show an "impossible moon" with the horns pointed downwards.

Our Favorite Reiki Recipe for October
While trying to decide on a recipe for this months newsletter, it occurred to me that we have really neglected to post dishes or favorite recipes from our international friends. At a recent lunch gathering a friend brought a delicious dish, and after trying it I decided why not pass it along this month for others to enjoy. The holiday festivities shared with friends and relatives are approaching and this would be a really great dish to serve.
HUMMUS:
It is a popular food in various local forms throughout the Middle Eastern world. ...Hummus is an Arabic word for chickpeas, it is a dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. It can be served many ways, commonly with Pita bread, toasted bread, crackers, perhaps with vegetables etc. It can even be put together with a variety of deli-style meats and served as a wrap.| | Preparation: Drain chickpeas and set aside liquid from can. Combine remaining ingredients in blender or food processor. Add 1/4 cup of liquid from chickpeas. Blend for 3-5 minutes on low until thoroughly mixed and smooth.

A Closing Thought:
We are all Vibrational Beings. You're like a receiving mechanism that when you set your tuner to the station, you're going to hear what's playing. Whatever you are focused upon is the way you set your tuner, and when you focus there for as little as 17 seconds, you activate that vibration within you. Once you activate a vibration within you, Law of Attraction begins responding to that vibration, and you're off and running--whether it's something wanted or unwanted --- Abraham

Arrived at camp at around 5:15 pm. Got unloaded and fed dogs. While Dave got the camp set up I wandered down to the river to get a bucket of water for the dogs. At the river I heard a big "KERSPLASH" and barely saw where it came from. Since I had passed some river otter poop on the way to the river I assumed it was probably him. So I waited and watched to see if it would make another appearance. Then "KERSPLASH" ...... a flipping fish. A big flipping fish ...... Salmon. I yelled for Dave to come and see but it swam up river before he made it down. YAY ...... ! Another first for me on the river this year. Night falls early these days so it is off to bed after dinner. Looking forward to mining tomorrow even though not expecting much. Nice to be here. Warm breeze ......

Up very early. COLD!!! 68 degrees at 10:00 am. After breakfast Dave raked pine needles and split a load of firewood to take down tomorrow. I did dishes and swept out trailer. Got stuff together and headed down to the hole. **After our last no gold trip I told Dave that I wanted to pick where to dig. And that if I was wrong I would no longer rag, nag and argue about where / which direction to go. But if I was right he would have to listen to me from here on out ..... he took me up on it** After looking at the hole over and over again ..... I finally picked a spot to dig. And I wanted a full run of no less than 30 buckets ...... none of this 11 buckets to see if we continue or not ...... I wanted a full uninterrupted run. When we turned off the machine and started to disassemble ...... I moved a couple rocks and there it was ..... our biggest piece by far. Danced, screamed, peed my pants ...... and that was just the beginning ..... there were quite a few nice pieces and a lot of gold flake ...... can't wait for tomorrow! YAY! 86 degrees for the high today. Down to river to look for Salmon and play with the dogs. Took my last river bath ..... water is just toooooo cold. Dinner and a two out of three Backgammon match. Dave won ..... kicked my ass good. Bed.
My woodcutting man .......
Another salmon picture.

Another cold morning! Up early. Breakfast and down to hole to clean out machine and get ready for the days run. Dave filled up wheelbarrow with material and also four full buckets to run while he takes the load of wood home. After Dave left I ran all the material ..... probably over 20 buckets worth. MORE gold! Some more nice pieces to add to yesterdays find. Dave will be excited. Fixed some lunch and started a book. Faye Kellerman .... Stalker. So far so good. 86 degrees for the high today. Dave back late afternoon. Went for a walk and then fixed dinner. We are both tired so bed will come early.

Another early rising. Mornings are brutal cold. After a slow start we headed to the hole and did our first run of the day. Not as much gold as before but still enough to keep us motivated. A late lunch then back down to do an afternoon run. 88 degrees right now. Afternoon run was not a disappointment. More of the gold. Not a lot ..... but enough. Decided to go to Cecilville and grab a burger for dinner. Ran into an ex-coworker of mine at the bar / restaurant. And her boyfriend and their friend. Stayed longer than we needed to. Got very drunk ..... and now there will be some payback involved in the near future ..... too long of a story. But we were .... geez ..... not even sure how to say it except robbed by these fucking kids .... and that seems over-dramatic. But what I did not realize is that it almost came to blows between Dave and "their friend". But PAYBACKS ARE A BITCH .....and I know the right people. Their people ......
September 29, 2008
Woke up to rain sprinkles and a very dark sky. Wind kicked in and blew out the storm ...... high temp today was 90 degrees. And humid. We had breakfast and did a morning run before packing up and heading home. Another successfull dig. And more nice pieces to add to the collection. We are both very tired. Time to pack up. Hate this part.
Didn't get a whole lot of pictures this trip. Just a few. And three fish videos that I will spare you all from viewing. Pine needles and leaves are falling .... a definite change in the air. Shorter days ..... longer nights. Another month hopefully before we have to pull out. The dogs will miss their trips in. And I will patiently or not so patiently wait for spring ..... and warmer weather to make its apperance once again.
And Jen and Justin need to get over too before we leave for the season. I'm holding them to it. And next year I'm hoping that a whole new group of friends will be able to come and spend time with us at the claim ..... six and Ruthie ..... Kalli ..... this means you ..... Jen's brother Chris ..... it could be one hella summer! And I love sharing this place.
The Jewish year is based on the moon and the first month is Tishrei. Each month begins with the new moon ( rosh chodesh) and each day begins at sundown as there was darkness before there was light. So Jews all over the world will go to synagogue at sundown in their time zones and do closely the same ritual all over the world no matter what kind of Judaism they practice. New Years is often celebrated for two days because of the poor communications in ancient times. that way no one could miss out and use the excuse they did not hear.
Traditional foods are apples honey and round challah rather than the typical braided ones. and yes one spends a good part of the day in temple. or in the lobby gossiping. A very nice custom is tashlich on the afternoon of Rosh (new) HaShanah( The year) in which one throws away ones sins in a body of living water ( it moves and has fish so swimming pools are out) Traditional jews use bread crumbs. Jim and I use torn up rice paper. we write the actions we regret and in tend to avoid in the coming year and then say some blessings at the river and toss the torn up paper into the water ( rice paper will dissolve).
Then on the tenth of Tishrei we begin the observance of the day of atonement (Yom Kippur) with a beautiful and somber service called Kol Nidre. Kol Nidre means "all vows" and is an ancient Aramaic prayer. It is sung or maybe played on a violin and then the entire congregation issues a group confession that exonerates them from religious edicts made under pressure ( as in forced conversions in the 1400's)
Certainly catholic confession evolved from these customs but one is not "off the hook" unless one actually turns from action and makes a change in their lives (I mention this as I had a catholic boyfriend in HS... we would have sex, he would go to confession,. say some hail marys and then later in the week we'd have some more sex. I never understood it. If sex was a need for confessional act he shudda stopped ...no? ) but I digress.
then after YK comes a few days to prepare for Sukkot - the Fall harvest festival on which Thanksgiving and The Christian Tabernacles is based. I will no doubt be featuring my sukkah here so I will stop with the lecture. but then two holidays that some Jews who are not very observant hardly know. Simchat Torah and Shemini Atzerat. More on those later.
For now... have a sweet new year. eat some apples in honey. say some blessings and make some New Year Resolutions of some weight and then KEEP THEM............. It's so Jewish.
Showing 1 - 5. [ Next ]
