The city where long ago 5 celestial beings landed on celestial goats!

Arrived in Guangzhou yesterday.  Am staying with an old friend from Baotou and her husband.  They can speak some English but we also spend a lot of time speaking in Chinese which is very good practice for me!  Today my friend had to work, but her husband took me to see some of the sights listed in my Lonely Planet China Guidebook.  I forgot his name and when i asked him what i should call him, he joked i should call him handsome guy!  We went to see 2 Buddhist temples that required entrance tickets for RMB5 per person, and then one of them also had a 9 story pagoda which cost a further Rmb10, so only i went up it.  Got a good view of the surrounding area from the top.  When leaving the second temple a guy in monk's robes (unknown whether he was a real monk or not) tried to force a buddhist trinket on me and wanted me to write down my name and address and give him a donation too.  But my friend finally talked him out of it since i didn't want to participate, but it wasn't easy, the way he forced me to take that trinket!

He said he doesn't like Chinese Budhism because they seem to be concentrated on making money... and it did seem that may.  Then we went to the Old Mosque, said to have been founded by an uncle of Mohammad.  But we couldn't go in, because they only let Muslims in.  So we went to the Daoist Temple dedicated to the 5 immortals said to have landed in Guangzhou thousands of years ago, who gave the people rice, wished them freedom from famines and then went back to the "heavens".  I joked that maybe it was a UFO.  Then we ate lunch in a Uighur (the people of Xinjiang Province) restaurant, which was very good.  (I ordered stirfried eggplant and cashew chicken with vegatables).  Then we went to see the Sacred Heart church but it was closed between 12pm and 3:30pm (it was 2pm).  So we then walked to Shamian Island which used to be where all the foreigners lived.  The American Consulate is still there.  3 brides and grooms (in western gowns) where getting their fotos taken outside a small catholic church which was also closed.  We had a rest in one of the parks and then i suggested we go home, since my feet were killing me!

Oh yeah, and last night i cooked chicken curry which actually turned out pretty good! Smiley

Yay! Let The Magic Begin and may faerie dust shine in!
(...link back for visitors from Our Enchanted Garden)

A fun new twist with some of my photos, assisted by the inspiration to start  taking the time to read through some of the tutorials in Photoshop! Yesterday I invested some time in learning to use the selection tools better. A good investment - I uncovered some tricks that greatly speed up and simplify some operations I'd tried earlier that seemed to take far too much work!
So now I'll be getting back to work with the word processing software I'm also learning to use and build in the pages for the comic artwork to tell the story of the magic in nature. The magic that surrounds us all. The magic we so often miss with our busy, work a day lives that have us spending our time living up to the expectations we too often allow to pile up on our shoulders! Sure there are things to do, there are responsibilities to being human, to being parents or grandparents or leaders. But life isn't meant to be all serious and sober and no fun at all. That's not the world I see.
The world I am able to perceive has taught me; Life is meant to be explored. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Life can be lived with ease and effortlessness when we find the passion and joy that is our birthright and I believe it is our only true sole (soul?) responsibility.
While the magic in the bushes is now lightly dusted with snow here in Ontario, I haven't yet gotten many views of that on camera to play with.  I am certain divine timing will pull that together when it's "right" and it will be an effortless and joyful activity when I do manage to capture the images!
And while awaiting that inspired action I'll get going with other inspirations currently presented to me.  As an example, yesterday I sent a message of to a friend and inspiring lady offering to help her with graphics, page layouts etc to support the work she does to help people uncover their own self-empowerment. Turns out she may need something done today for a get together planned for tomorrow. That is a bit of an example of the magic I see unfold in our natural world. When the need arises, what is required will manifest! It just does... It seems like coincidence to some.
I'm a firm believer that all things "happen" for a reason and it's the path I am being gently guided to explore and follow. I have every confidence that path is one of passion and the joyful employment of the skills and inspirations I am so lucky to build, uncover and acquire. A path that needs no ultimate destination, a path that encourages me to follow my heart's desires while listening gently for the nudges of inspiration. It's a path that helps me connect with my very soul, my infinite spark of divinity. A spark we all hold and know well within, that we take for granted and that often propells us through life without our even noticing. The same sparks that inspire the goldfinches and robins to sing and mate and care for their young. The sparks that entice the flower to unfold it's beauty and enrich the world with its' fragrances and bountiful seeds.
While awaiting that happy time I get to capture this year's winter dance,  I'll share a collage I put together from last winter and shots taken on a magical day when John and I were "chasing the light" as it played with the landscape and raced through the clouds and provided some interesting views of this lovely world of ours, the one I call; Our Enchanted Garden

Another New Pattern this Week!

Introducing a second pattern this week at http://www.carouselcharts.com was fun. This one is also introduced at the 50% off sale price, making it a much better deal than charts introduced earlier.

Flighty FaerieThe Flighty Faerie is OK for Aida, Linen, and Evenweave fabrics, and simple enough for beginners even though advanced stitchers can enjoy this speedy project with compelling details. The finished piece makes a great gift for friends, co-workers, sisters, mothers, daughters or others that enjoy faeries, fairies, and fairy frazes. 9 DMC colors, and Anchor equivalents are listed.

The sale price is great, too.

The Sale Continues: Another Category, Another Product

This week the annual 50% off sale on all counted cross stitch patterns continues at http://www.carouselcharts.com. Kinda fun, this is my first annual 1/2 off sale.

January Birthstone FaerieA new figure "January Birthstone Faerie," with garnet birthstone and snowdrop flower, has been added to the faerie illustrations at the blanket reduced price for the whole site, making it well worth the click trip here. Expect another Faerie chart and the Carousel Bear Birth Record chart later this week if all goes well. All will be introduced at the half off sale price.

The new downloads also come with both the standard size chart and a large-print chart that can both be downloaded from the same page after purchase. Both standard and large versions are easy open .PDF format and print from any color printer. (High quality smooth paper or photo paper and better print settings recommended.)

For a gift your favorite cross stitcher will enjoy, roll charts up with the print on the inside, put the floss and fabric into your loosely rolled "tube" (3 or 4" diameter), wrap with semi-transparent or printed celophane plastic wrap, and tie ends for easy opening on a holiday and waa-laa, you have a great gift. Add in several of the "always free" freebie charts for a bonus.

Each sale of the Faerie chart will result in a charitable donation to the Autoimmunity Research Foundation for continued research on Th1 diseases (Sarcoidosis, RA, SLE, CFS, Lyme, Crones and others fall under this category of chronic disease processes). The Marshall Protocol has definitely been a great help in getting my Sarcoidosis under control and I'm confident that I am on my way to wellness.

That said, it hasn't been easy to start a business between bouts of Jarisch-Herxheimer Reactions (JHR or "Herx"). The day job often got the most attention when I had more energy. That's why the release of the "for sale" version of this chart is pretty exciting for me. I hope you will take a look.

It was a beautiful day in the garden!
All right!
It was a beautiful day in the garden!
Somehow as I was playing with some simple artwork, experimenting with how different background effects might work...and it got lost to the ethers! Sorry!

Was a cool start this morning and the garden glowed with that "well watered" look!
Temperature 21 C, 70 F, humidity 77%, barometer 102 & steady
sunny with traces of cloud.
The air is so clean and dry today things look brighter - a beautiful light for painting or taking pictures.
I was right with the portulacca, new blooms opened this morning and they're bright and fresh and upright again! Many more morning glories opened today, teh hummingbirds enjoy them. Hollyhocks have been catching their attention some, but the little green male never seems to stay around for too long...Course half the time we don't even realize they're in the garden they move so fast!

Ripped up a patch of bluebells this morning to make room for a new mailbox we'll install sometime over the next week. I'm to stain the post and allow it to set a while before we set up some concrete to stand it in place at the edge of our lane. We're installing a typical rural mailbox, it should look cute and we hope the mail delivery people will enjoy it too! It will save them steps and be easier to stuff than our current mailbox, which is cute but so impractical!

Also started scraping and brushing and scouring the old picnic table, in readiness for a fresh coat of stain! My dad, well-meaning and budget-minded as he is...painted the table with an opaque stain several years ago...I prefer a transparent or semi-transparent stain...it doesn't peel, just fades and wears away and outlasts opaque stains by a couple years. Needless to say that kept me busy today...maybe that's why I lost my first blog - my hands were a bit tired at the time!

I'll aim to get tomorrow's notes in earlier...
though I'll be playing with more background artwork - which I just HAVE TO do...
and that may yet sabotage me...and maybe not...!
Always worth a try - I'd like to make the trip worthwhile!
Have a beautiful day in your garden!
Cheryl ;-)
