Darn these wet weekends can seem gloomy, and being a long one, it can seem to drag on and on. For my partner John, it's had a nice side effect, sleeping in is that much easier! Getting up at 5:00 am during the week puts him in the mood to sleep in on weekends, when he can, and that's a lot easier when it's dark and grey and gloomy outside. Sleep well dear lucky dragon, dream deeply my love!
We've been out and about this weekend and I tried my hand at some shots here and there while we were hiking around a spring fed pond at the edge of a small city near us. It's a pretty area and the pond had an interesting green hue to it that inspired me to try a few things with my camera. The rain came down harder it seemed, with each step we took. I cleaned my lens several times and still had most photos marred by raindrops! These sort of challenges are just the thing to make me want to see if I can still pull something off despite the weather and lighting. I managed a few that were pretty. Most though, I'll use like a sticky note in my album to remind me of places I want to visit on another day and try, try again! I can see there's potential in these areas on a day when the scenery, weather and subjects might be more cooperative. I'll give you an example;
you can see here, it's a better day for fishing than snapping pictures, but we will be back another day because rainy days will pass and the seasons march on! The notes I wrote to myself suggest this spot will be even more beautiful when the grasses and reeds turn golden and the trees put on their autumn show! And this heron might then be a little easier to see;
And below, another pretty pond area we ventured around on our travels;
On another day this will likely have a very different look, and soon fall colours will set off the view nicely so we'll keep that in mind for a weekend in our future and we'll hope for clear skies!
I had hoped also to catch some better shots of the baby goldfinches and delve a little further into their story, how the adults came to make the enchanted garden their home and a nursery for their broods. The winds and rains of Ernesto's gasp as it passes over south western Ontario has sent them all into hiding and so, patience is a must to master on such days! They haven't left, our garden and the front meadow are their home. I trust that we'll get a chance to know them better soon. And in anticipation I will wait to share with you what it is they choose to share with me. I'm certain we'll be rewarded and the camera will be happy to record it for us! They inspired the latest page design and I'll keep it up for a while, until I start getting some good shots of autumn colours of trees or the harvesting of some local crops ... There'll be all sorts of things to photograph still!
Until then, we'll see what today brings as the weather is expected to move east and things may start to clear nicely; it's still early and it's a holiday day so we'll enjoy what's offered to us and share if we uncover something wonderful and inspiring on what is traditionally considered to be the last weekend of the summer!
