Stiff and sore for $5.85 an hour
So, work's been crazy. This week I worked Fri, Sat, & Sun, and I'm scheduled to work on Tues next week. Apparently last week Josh quit, Melody was fired, and Kim put in her two weeks notice. Bad for Subway but good for me (because now I'll hopefully be given hours!).
Anyway, major moron came in with his family on Friday night and tried to stay past 10pm (when we close). He came in at like, 9:55pm, ordered, THEN sat down and started eating. Seriously. So, I had to ask him to leave (explaining that we get in trouble when customers are in the lobby after hours) and he got all huffy and was like "Well you could've told me before I started eating," and "Well that's why I asked you when I was ordering" (Dumbass, I was in the back cleaning. I didn't even serve you...my sister did. Get your head out of your ass), etc. The second time he said "I'd have thought you'd have told me," was like so annoyed I was like "Well I would have thought you'd have read our hours that are listed on the door!" Moron. Seriously people, it's not that hard.
Saturday I got the weirdest guy when I came onto my shift. He got to talking about age and what not and wanted to know how old I was and how old I thought he was (apparently he's 22 *shrug*) etc. Anyway, when we got down to the register I was like "Do you need any cutlery?" (he'd gotten a wrap and it was uber messy). Cutlery? What's that? Knives, forks, etc. Oh, no I'm good. When you said 'cutlery' all I could think about was what I've got at home *Raises eyebrows and nods head...mmkay...*I collect swords. Oh cool, my brother collects guns. Swords are so much better than guns. Guns are too quick and easy. With swords you can disarm the person then torture them later. Oooh. Yeah. Okay, have a nice day.
Weeeeerrrrrriiiidooooooo. I'm sorry, are your sadist tendencies supposed to be an attraction for me or something? Also, collects swords my ass. I'm sure there's an actual term for swords that has nothing to do with the word "cutlery."

So, I actually intend to do something for my birthday this year (May 23rd). Yay! I've decided to round up some peeps and go to Cootie B.'s for dinner and then hopefully go see the 2nd Narnia movie with whoever wants to come along after dinner. Here's a list of people who've been invited:
Mama - yes
Laken - yes
Ariel - yes
Paula - yes
Wyatt (& Jesse) - yes
Greg (& Jeff) - yes
Donna & Perry - undecided.
Anyways, it should be pretty fun. I hope Donna and Perry can make it...they're tons of fun. Also, I'm uber glad that Wyatt's coming!
I've been trying to decide what to wear....I know I want to wear one of my dresses...I just can't decide between my red halter or my black one with flowers on it. They both look cool, damn it.

Other updates include:
*My allergies suck. I'm taking Benadryl (?) right now but it's not doing that much good. I'm going to try upping my dose to two pills at a time tomorrow, but that may not work. I have to be careful with it because it apparently affect(ed)s my grandmother and mom negatively and would make them really emotional and unstable. *shrug* Oh well.
*The comic strip is coming along slowly. I've only come up with one idea for one strip so far. I'm lame, I know.
*If you don't know her already, Ingrid Michaelson is friggin awesome. Laken, Mama, and I are going to try to get tickets to her show in SC this summer. I cannot wait!
*My stomach keeps hurting. And my back and legs are killing me right now (damn my intolerance for being on my feet for 8 hours straight, 3 days in a row!).
*Suzanna's driving everyone crazy. She's amazingly spoiled which has come as a shock to all of us. She's really selfish and she whines a lot. She's also insanely clingy. Which sucks...since she'll be living with us all summer long....oi. She's going to Nashville for a week on Wednesday, though, so we'll get a mini break from her at least.
*Iiiiiiii waaaaaaant sleeeeeeeep. Good night!

Where is the Respect???

In my rush to express my enthusiasm for my new position, I touched on a random issue that I should perhaps explain further.  :)

I brought up a distinction between men and women in the workplace, but didn't really explain my meaning well.  My apologies!  What I meant to say was from my observation, there is a marked difference between the way men relate on the job and the way women relate on the job.  I have had the fortune of a multitude of work experiences from the military (which was mostly male, but at the time I was in was still segregated for billeting & training), to teaching, to real estate, to convenience store/ customer service to childcare.  I have worked for men and for women and been part of all female teams on numerous occasions.  Again, I say, men and women are NOT the same ... NOT equal and this is a wonderful thing!  It does NOT mean one is BETTER than the other, but simply that we are different.

Men, it seems to me, in general, are much better equipped to transition between work relationships and personal relationships.  This means that when they are put into a position for which they are ill-suited, they are less likely than women to take it personally and/or try to make it work.  Men seem to be much more able to leave work at work and much less likely to micro-manage those under their supervision.  At least, that is my experience.  Sorry, ladies, but I think men are generally easier to get along with in a group setting, although one-on-one, it is the other way around.  hahaha  Must be that communication thing, hmmm?  All of us seem to change, too, when we put on a "title" or "office", if you know what I mean.  I'm sure I'm over-simplifying a complex issue here concerning the way men and women relate, but ... I generally get along with everyone.

My employment pet peeve list, however, is topped with a need for mutual respect.  If management has hired a "qualified" individual, does that new employee not deserve some measure of respect?  If there is not some degree of mutual respect that flows from management to the lowest rung, then the organism is not healthy and production / service will suffer.  This is what is happening in the facility I am leaving.  The DIRECTOR has not yet learned how to value those with whom she works, but instead almost plots for their failure.  This makes for a very uncomfortable place to work and, in my opinion, an unhealthy place to try to teach children.  It is sad, and of course, as always, it is the children who suffer.

Your thoughts???

On a lighter note ...

You Are a Question Mark
You seek knowledge and insight in every form possible. You love learning.
And while you know a lot, you don't act like a know it all. You're open to learning you're wrong.

You ask a lot of questions, collect a lot of data, and always dig deep to find out more.
You're naturally curious and inquisitive. You jump to ask a question when the opportunity arises.

Your friends see you as interesting, insightful, and thought provoking.
(But they're not always up for the intense inquisitions that you love!)

You excel in: Higher education

You get along best with: The Comma

Good Employees
The sock mill lost a good one last week. AWwww-girl, as I'll call her, is one of those rare individuals with a trainload of talent, drive and a sense of the big picture. She came to us already knowing now to make socks, sell socks and even make websites that sell socks. And she lived and worked every day beaming God's grace through her effort, products and attitude.

Her work raised the quality of our socks and the community's preception of our worth and place in that community. I had the honor and challenge of occasionally supervising her and clearing her schedule of sock fuzz minutiae so she could do the things she uniquely did best. Alas, for us, she moved on to things that are right for her. And at least she'll be home for Christmas and New Year.

Good luck and God bless ya AWwww-girl,
and remember us when you wear socks :)

Not getting an opportunity Licks!

I am so tired of my superiors acting like they know what is best for me.  They keep asking “what to you want to do in your career?”  For anyone that knows me…knows that I will go after what I want but I have to know what I want first.  Many of my decisions is based on survival….survival to pay off my student loans for an education that I am trying my hardest to utilize in the working world and to pay for my rent and food and if I’m lucky to save for my future home…which at this rate and how much it costs for me just to live…it will be at least 10 years until I can afford to buy a home and start the family thing.  So I have to move up in this world through what education I have and what experience I’m getting…so when I try and get a promotion or want to try a new department….I keep getting slack.  Like I am supposed to “know” what I want to do exactly and making sure I make the right choices to get there. Ok if I knew the title of the “exact” job I wanted, I would do anything I could to get it….like what else am I doing….really???  But trying to move up in my chosen career path….which happens to be non-profit….so I know I can’t make the huge $$ but I can try and move up where I’m at….right??? So I pick an organization….I ask for more work…for more of a challenge and I am told I need to know exactly what I want to do.  Well maybe that will become more clear if someone actually gave me an opportunity.  My boss has said she is here for me and wants to help me with my career…well its been over a year and I just keep getting the same question that I am supposed to know what I want….well I’m still figuring that out and opportunity and money at this point would help me make that decision.  Its just to bad the old school boomer can’t get over her own ego to just help out an employee….who one day will be filling her shoes.

Starbucks

The dialog below is from the Starbucks Gossip website.  The yellow text is what I wrote and the black text is what some cunt named "Stacy" wrote.  This is why I don't like Starbucks, people.

Won't be fooled again:

Just so you know - and I believe you are halfway there - here's how it's going to work.

Some of the people on here are going to tell you to go away and they are eventually going to tell you to f*ck off (because you are censored otherwise) and they are going to most likely call you an asshole or douchebag.

Some of the people here take what you say about Starbucks personally. I don't understand it because they are employed by the company...it didn't give birth to them. I'd like to think for every ten or so people here who say you shouldn't have the right to speak your mind - that there is another one or two that are fine with it and are willing to discuss things in an intelligent way.

Fellow baristas,

Do yourselves a favor and ignore Mr Charbucks and his friend Fivebucks. They come on these websites looking to piss someone off. They're bottom-feeders who get off on getting a rise out of people. These are the type of people who spend their entire life calling every other single person on the face of the Earth a dumbass because in their warped minds, they know all.

If people want to hate Starbucks, let them. For every 2 people who hate us, there are 8 more who love us. Our customers love us.

Well as I recall "STACY", what I was saying, is that one can't blame all of the increase on gas. Someone earlier had mentioned gas numerous times, as if to blame the increase mainly on that - and that isn't true.

Now if you'd like to insult me, go right on ahead. If you want to call me a "bottom feeder" for giving my opinion that is fine too, but I'm afraid you're a few posts too late on that one. You should have been insulting me a handful of days ago along with everyone else.

I have made a valid point with my post above - and that is that the increase isn't solely nor mainly because of fuel prices. Now, if you have a problem with that, you are indeed, the bottom feeder.

If others wish to ignore me, that's fine too but I think I am being decent and polite thus far on this post, and you have attacked me for no reason other than that you have to have a target. If you don't like me coming on here, I'm sorry but I have the right - as you do - to express my opinions as long as I'm not personally attacking anybody.

I was telling "Charbucks" what to expect in my last post - and I stick by it. He does not have the popular belief here, so he will be attacked unfairly for it, as you are unfairly attacking me right now. Apparently you don't agree with our right to free speech, as I do, because you don't want me or anybody else who disagrees with you to have a voice on this site. I believe in those rights, so you go ahead and say what you wish about me.

Have a nice evening!
