Election 2008 @ MindSay
I am an alumni of both Rock Valley College (2006) and Rockford College (2008).
I have my B.A. Degree in Philosophy/Religious Studies and my A.A. Degree (Art).
I live in Rockford, IL with my mom, my significant other, and my 2 cats, Stinky and Pickle.
[ This "blog" originally started out as a letter to a friend in regards to a poll measuring public opinion of Sarah Palin's ability to be V.P. (which can be seen here: http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html) ]
Anyway, I feel that this whole election is bull-shit because I feel that I am seemingly forced into choosing between a black guy and (or) a woman; both represent minorities (and they're corresponding minority groups) who could help to change America for the better. However, (and I've discussed this at length with some political science folks) I think the best way for this whole thing to emerge would be for the black man to be president before a woman (although in this specific case it is woman as V.P.), just so history can cycle itself (black men got the vote before women). Though it is sometimes said that we are DOOMED to let history repeat itself, I think that history already DOES repeat itself . . . and I suppose the manifestation of this truth may come to be shown.
And I don't always "vote blue" - I'm independent, but I have voted blue in the past ; )
But hey, I'm a little biased because I've met Obama 3 times. What can I say?
I wish that Palin was a little more calm and actually conservative. Then I might consider voting for her; but, you see, I'm a confused mixture of feminist and anti-feminist which is why I label myself as neither.
Honestly, I think women screwed themselves (along with the rest of humanity) when they asked for "equal rights" . . . but I suppose that's just me. You can see the consequences of these "equal rights" in today's media -- and in the economy, as well. We wouldn't be living in poverty if just roughly over HALF of the population were in the workforce (as opposed to ALL males AND females, as we have "fought" to do). I suppose women wanted to be "equal" so they could strip for men . . . and be exploited in virtually every form of advertisement there is (as you can see in our media today). Where IS the "equality"???? It DOESN'T EXIST. It was a "cause" that we "fought for" that we (women) actually had NO SAY IN!!!!!
I suppose that women wanted their tits to be the symbol for sexual "freedom" . . . (which actually enslaves them all the more) . . . I suppose that women wanted to create problems such as "child support," "WIC" (might be called something else in Indiana), and "Link" (food stamps).
I suppose that women wanted to create the concept of the "feminization of poverty," (among others to describe their sad state economically, socially, and politically - not to mention sexually) . . . Palin is an irrelevant joke to me. There are MANY MORE SERIOUS issues pertaining to women that should be discussed today . . . and I think that Palin is a poor mockery of the whole thing.
I don't know if you watched the Republican Convention, but all she seemed to care about was drilling . . . and the fact that her husband is the "first dude."
It's a pop-culture fiasco generated in order to simplify the seriousness surrounding the whole thing .
That's how they've portrayed Obama, too.
Every vote counts, right?
That's why you can count me out (at least this time).
Disillusioned by politics -
Sincerely,
"E-Dogg"
Shadeofgray brought up that I am registered Republican and that is probably why. I saw that as a possible answer until the Obama group I am a part of brought up a very odd piece of news that I had yet to read... check it out, it happened to me and could happen to you:
Progressive talk show host Lee Rayburn has gotten dozens of contacts from voters in Wisconsin, mostly recently moved, who are complaining that they have received unsolicited absentee ballot applications sent to their new addresses (not forwarded) from the McCain campaign, and that those applications have as the return address the county clerk of their FORMER address. While he was talking about this on the air today, other voters from Florida and North Carolina, as well as more from Wisconsin called to report that they had received the same. A number said that the were not registered Democrats, but had donated to Obama, so it appears that the public donor lists were the McCain campaign's source of the names. This had to have been cross-checked with change-of-address info at the BOEs.So I give it to them that I am in fact registered republican. I can see that. But.. 1) I never requested a ballot, 2) I have had 2 changes of address in the past year and a half and 3) I donated to the Obama campaign. So maybe it was a mix up... or maybe anyone who shows any interest in the Obama campaign and is in this position is going to be screwed over. I don't care which party you belong to, this is just wrong.
This dirty trick serves a dual purpose. First the votes won't be counted. Second, and equally distressing, the inaccurate returned applications will be used by Republican state legislators to claim fraud by Democrats, and to push through laws with harsh voter ID provisions with which it is hard for poorer registrants to comply. This will suppress the vote in future elections.
Everyone who receives absentee ballot applications from the McCain campaign, or any unsolicited absentee ballot applications, needs (a)to not use them, (b)to publicize the problem as widely as possible including their state Democratic Party and the media, and (c)to demand an investigation by their Secretary of State immediately.

Now I know John Kerry is not in the Presidential hunt in 2008; however when I read an interview of a fellow captive with John McCain in North Vietnam’s torture prison camp known as Hanoi Hilton, I immediately thought of the difference of what a Dem thinks of decorated hero and what real Americans think decorated heroes are.
Supporters of Kerry’s war record are those that directly served on his boat and the reports given and written by Kerry himself in which top brass read then awarded citations of valor and medals. So there are documented facts yet different interpretations of those facts exist. There is a mystery of Kerry’s discharge from the Navy itself. The thing is serious some dispute of the validity of the documentation. So even after the long delay of Kerry allowing his war record to be released, doubters of Kerry’s war record have a good foundation to doubt. Besides a true American hero does not trash his fellow military comrades directly after leaving the Service if he indeed performed the acts the disputable documentation portrays.
It is no wonder that Kerry is part of the cut-n-run crowd which is actually a disappointing huge amount of people, not just Democratic Party politicians.
So I have taken one more shot at Senator Kerry for this reason. There is man running for President in 2008 who also is Vietnam Vet and there is little mystery of his heroism during the war or after. That candidate is Republican John McCain.
There are Leftists that are trying to debunk McCain’s war record attempting to do a Left Wing version of Swift Boating. However there is little mystery in facts and the conclusions that follow as with John Kerry. After the Vietnam War, McCain did NOT jump on the “I HATE AMERICA” Left Wing gravy train to infamy as Kerry did.
I found this website that is blatantly stinging toward John McCain record as a POW throwing doubt on the veracity of McCain’s medals. It reads like the words of vets in the John Kerry mold; i.e. veterans that hate their nation and their Service. Then the site links to another person who offers his negative opinion.
The site unwittingly mentions that Colonel George “Bud” Day nursed McCain back to health after being taken as a POW.
Oops! Bud Day does NOT corroborate the website’s disdain for McCain’s heroism. READ HERE. (McCain’s military records – HERE.)
Last night and early this morning, America witnessed the beginning of the end of the Clinton dynasty. Clinton supporters may deny it, they may still make the arguments about superdelegates and how the votes of the people don't actually matter; but the truth is a cold, cruel mistress, and it's invaded the Clinton campaign.
All eyes were on Indiana's Lake county, which contains Gary as well as other Chicago suburbs, close to Obama's home base. The county withheld all election results until the 11,000+ absentee ballots were counted, drawing out the contest into the late night and early morning. When it was all over, Clinton, the heavy favorite to win the state, squeaked out a bittersweet 2-point victory. Obama swept the other primary in North Carolina by 14 points.
Despite the slight loss in Indiana, Barack Obama won the night, increasing his overall delegate lead, even making up for his delegate loss in Pennsylvania, and making it more unlikely for his opponent to overcome it. Hillary Clinton failed to "close the deal" and keep her momentum from the Pennsylvania primary. She needed a big win in Indiana last night, and she didn't deliver.
It's interesting to look at the Indiana primary county-by-county. While Clinton won the rural, sparsely populated areas, Obama was the favorite in urban counties. While Clinton may have won some of the "big states," Obama won the "big counties" in Indiana.
Not even Michigan and Florida can save Clinton now. Even if they were counted, Obama would still lead in delegates and the popular vote. It's over, it's simply over for Hillary Clinton. I think I share many peoples' sentiments when I say "good riddance to bad rubbish." We no longer have the threat of a Bush or a Clinton in the White House, a shared dynasty that's been going on since 1981, longer than I've been alive. That gives me more hope than any Obama speech ever could.
I first heard on FOX News yesterday that Condi Rice may be looking to coax a VP nomination out of McCain. Then I ran into an April 6 post of an ABC blog called Political Radar which reports Secretary Rice is ACTIVELY seeking the Republican nomination for Vice President.
Here are my brief thoughts on that prospect.
The Condi Rice that was GW’s National Security Advisor was a person I saw with admiral skill and eloquence. I toyed with the concept of a Black Female Republican Presidential nomination of that Condi Rice. I even thought of it more when her National Security Advisor skills found her moving upward to Secretary of State.
Then there is the Secretary of State Condi Rice.
Since becoming head of the State Department Rice seems to have been overwhelmed by State Department bureaucrats that fought the Bush Doctrine from its inception as a concept to promote America’s National Interests.
If it was not for a strong Israel lobby these old dog bureaucrats view of America’s National Interests lay in placating Arab nations that are friendlier (not necessarily friendly) to America at the expense of the Middle East’s only successful Western Style Democratic Nation – Israel.
Since Rice has become Secretary of State the Global War on Terror only exists in Iraq and Afghanistan even though ALL of the PLO and Hamas in particular have committed acts of aggression against America.
Divorcing the Palestinian Terrorists from the Global War on Terror has moved the Bush Administration into forcing the issue of a Two-State solution of the existence to the Land of Israel and a sovereign nation of Palestine. This drive to force the existence of Palestine is occurring even though the concerted goal of Palestinian Terrorists is the elimination of Israel as a nation with the giddy dream of wiping Jews out in the Middle East.
Secretary Rice’s push for a Two-State solution indirectly aid’s the Palestinian goal of the destruction of Israel.
So do I think Condi Rice should be a VP consideration for McCain? NO.
