Chrysanthemum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chrysanthemums are a genus (Chrysanthemum and northeastern) of about 30 species of perennial flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, native to AsiaEurope.

The species of Chrysanthemum are herbaceous perennial plants growing to 50-150 cm tall, with deeply lobed leaves and large flowerheads, white, yellow or pink in the wild species.

Chrysanthemum species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species - see list of Lepidoptera which feed on Chrysanthemum.

Culinary uses

Yellow or white chrysanthemum flowers are boiled to make a sweet drink in some parts of Asia. The resulting beverage is known simply as "chrysanthemum tea". Chrysanthemum tea has many medicinal uses, including an aid in recovery from influenza. In Korea, a rice wine flavored with chrysanthemum flowers is called gukhwaju.

The leaves of several species such as Chrysanthemum coronarium, the Garland chrysanthemum, which is grown commercially in East Asia as a leaf vegetable, known as tung ho, shungiku, or ssukkat.

In China, the greens are often stir-fried simply with garlic and dried chili peppers. The colour of the cooked greens is dark, their texture dense and mucilaginous, and their flavour fragrant and complex.

Insecticidal uses

Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum [or Tanacetum] cinerariaefolium from biting. When not present in amounts fatal to insects, they still appear to have an ) is economically important as a natural source of insecticide. The flowers are pulverized and the active components called pyrethrins, contained in the seed cases, are extracted and sold in the form of an oleoresin. This is applied as a suspension in water or oil, or as a powder. Pyrethrins attack the nervous systems of all insects, and inhibit female mosquitoesinsect repellent effect. They are harmful to fish, but are far less toxic to mammals and birds than many synthetic insecticides and are non-persistent, being biodegradable and also breaking down easily on exposure to light. They are considered to be amongst the safest insecticides for use around food. (Pyrethroids are synthetic insecticides based on natural pyrethrum, e.g., permethrin.)

Please, please DO eat the daisies!!!
I saw this on another blog and thought it was interesting. People like to send flowers for Mother's Day, but there are more uses for flowers than just a pretty bunch in a vase waiting to keel over! Yes! You can actually reuse the flowers in your food. Not very far-fetched. Flowers have been used in food for centuries, and gained momentum in the 17th and 18th centuries. Herb flowers, roses, marigolds, thyme flowers, and more *you can check out the properties and tastes at a neat little site called Scotherbs (www.scotherbs.co.uk).* There are even recipes that utilize these awesome delights. You can use them in salads, on fish, in pasta. It's really neat how you don't have to let your bouquet go to waste. A few things you need to know before you use flowers, though. They cannot have been sprayed with any other colors. The white ends of the petals near the center need to be cut. You MUST make sure there are no little bugs or organisms living on your flowers. Gently shaking them and wiping them with a paper towel should work well. It's a really neat deal. I never knew that marigolds were peppery. I hadn't the slightest idea that flowers were so diverse! Check it out, you may be surprised. Let me know if any of you decide to try your hand at flower food :D

Edible Eggs

Today I hung out with Amber.

She called me and woke me up this morning.

When I say this morning I mean 2:00 in the afternoon.

But anyway. She came and got me like 20 minutes after I got up.

We hung out, bought Cecilia Softball shit, and then went to her first game. The jamboree or whatever.

It was fun. I had her drop me off at Mikes house because I saw the Alero in his yard.

Me Adam and Mike smoked some mary-jew-wanna.

I finally got back home at like close to 1:00.

But oh,

How,

I wanna be drunk.

I want Rachel to have another party.

That shit was pimp.

I wanna get a job and pay for the next "party".

But, it will just be me, Tracy, Bjord, Rachel, Adam, Jessica, Crickey, Patric, and meh, maybe PD and Ricky (since kids are funny when they are drunk) if Rachel can stand them in the festivities.

So thats not too much a party as it is a get together and get drunk and get high night.

420 would be a really good day for something like that...?! Hm.

I need a job.

I  N-E-E-D  A  J-O-B.

I wish I wasnt such a fucking SLACKER.

I could go back to Client Logic now I think.

Maybe.

Meh. Probably not.

Stupid Responsibility.

Stupid Reality.

Stupid Money.

Why cant everything be free?

And why cant I rule the world?

So. Adam is making some fried eggs.

I like Fried Eggs.

I think that I will have a sunny side up fried egg.

-Because, "I love eggs, from my head down to my legs. The incredible edible egg."
