Earrings @ MindSay
So, I had another dream last night, and it was quite different (and patchy) from the one before.
In the first part of the dream I had a pet snake. It was blue and had a strangely adorable face. I was outside with it on our carport when it went over to the weeds and a black snake shot out and chased it back over to me, where it stopped at my feet, waggling it's tail and looking up with pleading eyes, wanting to be held (much like a puppy or something). Shortly thereafter I found another snake that I decided to care for. It was green, and I don't remember much about it except that it morphed into a spiney, worm-like creature. Not really a centipede or anything like that....I can't really explain it.
In the second part of the dream was of me at work, wanting to wear two pairs of earrings at once. One pair was a pair of wire-wrapped silver stars, the other a pair of round black plastic studs (very vintage looking). And so, while at work, I pierced my ear with the black earrings. I only managed to pierce one ear because it hurt like a bitch, though.
In the third part of the dream I had just gotten home. I was outside and I could hear one of the TVs in the house blaring. I went inside and followed the sound upstairs to the guest bedroom/library where I found Jen, the annoying black girl from Hells Kitchen, confessing that she stole the sunglasses.
Wtf?
Mostly I'm wodering about the first and second parts of the dream. I'm curious about the meaning behind the three snakes, their colors, and their "relationship" to me. Also, black reoccurred twice in the dream (black snake, black earrings). Anyone good with dream analysis? Also, if you know of a good book on dreams in general I'd love to find out about it.
Before showing you my "collection" (or at least, photos of the earrings that I actually wear), I'll give you a bit of info on the history of ear piercing (courtesy of Wikipedia):* Ear piercing is one of the oldest known forms of body modification
* Pierced ears were popular in the United States through the early 1920s, then fell into disfavor among women due to the rising popularity of clip-on earrings
*There was a long-held belief that puncturing the earlobe was beneficial to increasing the acuity of eyesight (see acupuncture) or of hearing (perhaps through resonance).
* Wasn't very common in Anglo-based cultures until the 1960s.
* By the 1980s, department stores throughout the country would hold ear piercing events. At these events, a nurse or other trained person would perform the procedure, either pushing a sharpened and sterilized starter earring through the earlobe by hand, or using an ear-piercing instrument modified from the design used by physicians.
The Plastics

Rainbow circles with metal backing. Somewhat heavy; not worn frequently.

Black glitter stars. These, as well as my other star earrings, are frequently worn. This should come as no surprise given my obsession with star anything.

White glitter stars. These actually have smaller silver confetti-like stars in them (which you may or may not be able to see). Slightly smaller than the black stars, slightly more pointed; the tips aren't as rounded.

Pink stars held to earring hook by smaller silver stars. These are actually transparent and are a more pink, salmon'y color (but because they're laying against black, they appear more like a watered down red). These are about the same size as the black stars, but a little bit longer.

Turquoise ovals; large and plastic. Actually not that heavy.

Pink, aqua, yellow, and black swirl and daisy patterned hoops. Plastic. They reminded me of Andy Warhol - I've no idea why.

Red hearts. A little large but still cute.

Ridiculously heavy white with rainbow print hearts. I must have been crazy when I bought these. As cute as they are, I will probably never wear them (because even though they're plastic, they really are heavy!). I may, however, disassemble them and turn them into necklaces or something. I've yet to decide.

And thus concludes my earring post. I did leave one pair out (yellow beaded hoops) for the simple reason that they were purchased after my earring photo shoot.
Drum roll please ....
Even though I am suposed to be working at present, I found the time to take pictures of, and post, my Swarovski Crystal earrings I have been addicted to making, and post them for my friends who have been asking to see them ... some of the photos are kinda blurry (my crappy old camera) ...
