I've been fast becoming a fan of Lady Gaga lately. Maybe because her music reminds me when I first heard Madonna or Prince on the radio -- she's got that infectious pop music fusion, a little bit retro, hip-hop, and all no-holds-barred glamour. When I first heard the song "Boys Boys Boys" I envisioned it as the perfect drag queen-themed video. I wanted to see queens dressed up as Lady Gaga. Finally, someone on YouTube put together this lovely video remix:
Now that I think of it, the song "Boys Boys Boys" would be perfect for a deletedromance blog featuring some tasty men folk... myclette doya hear me callin'?
My most fabulous and witty buddy Roy informed me recently on Facebook that it is DRAG HISTORY MONTH. How could I miss that? How can I not celebrate it? I woke up and smelled the make-up this morning and, yes, life is suddenly sparkling with glitter. Just thinking about my favorite drag performers makes my day. To educate the children out there, here are some videos for drag appreciation, enjoy!
What? You haven't heard of MURRAY HILL? You can't have a Drag History Appreciation without acknowledging the Drag Kings! What's a Queen without a King anyway? Here's a promo from 2006 where Murray gives us the best of the gay stuff that year:
from the upcoming album Faster, Faster here's RuPaul's "PUT THE BASS IN YOUR WALK!" with scenes from his new show, DRAG RACE!
Believe you me, if I had more time today, I'll write up an entire list of drag movies for you to watch... If only they taught Drag History Appreciation in the schools!
While I was broke for awhile, I wanted to create some postcards that will bring people good luck. I started thinking about Fairy Godmothers and came up with a cute idea: what if all Fairy Godmothers in fairytales were really drag queens with magical powers? This idea led me to start drawing these faces. The faces I would later paint on little postcards. As the colors came out, the personalities of these Fairy Godmothers started to emerge. Then they started to remind me of the painted faces of club kids. Then I started to write a story for each of the Godmothers. Each one of these faces you see below is a Fairy Godmother who can grant you a special wish that corresponds with each of their personalities and supernatural abilities. Because I haven't yet settled names for these characters, and haven't yet found a publisher that might be interested in printing them, I will post details on them later. For now, here are the previews:
"Do you remember the first time you were kissed by a boy...?"John T. Ryan hasn't forgotten and this song has got me dancing like it's still Valentine's Day. I have featured this guy before on this blog. Last time he was doing his own creepy drag version of "Spice Up Your Life" (originally inflicted upon us by The Spice Girls). I discovered him on YouTube.com and his was a face and voice I couldn't ignore. I have a feeling that he'll be going places in the future... The music is post punk new wave with a few mascara brushes of glam rock mixed in.

Here's something more goth of John T. Ryan, "This is Halloween" acapella from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I like how he emphasizes "Hallow-EEEEEEE-n"
When I was first looking for Gothic rock videos on Youtube.com, I first came across John T. Ryan in this test for gothic drag. I like the use of cigarette or incense smoke. It's also kinda scary because he looks like me in this video:
And here's the video that I originally posted before I really got to see how much of a performer this guy is; it's his cover of "Spice Up Your Life":
I will never hear that song the same again! Okay, one more video from this guy chronicling the snow blizzard in NYC over this last weekend. See all the snow in the background and how much has fallen on that park bench in Central Park? Well..... That's how much snow we've got now in central Wisconsin. You wouldn't believe how hard it was to even walk down to the corner store for a pack of cigarettes. Seeing this just reminds me of that:
Now that I've exposed you all to these videos, you really have to check out what else this guy has filmed! Go visit RYANISLAND for more fun! Have a good night.
