An important purpose of domain names is to provide easily recognizable and memorizable names to numerically addressed Internet resources. This abstraction allows any resource (e.g., website) to be moved to a different physical location in the address topology of the network, globally or locally in an intranet. Such a move usually requires changing the IP address of a resource and the corresponding translation of this IP address to and from its domain name.
When I first got interested in starting my own web site I didn't have a clue how to get going. I spent countless hours hunting down information, posting on message forums, asking questions, and reading everything I could get my hands on. It was so tedious - I kept wishing all of the information was in one spot - or even in one spot that would immediately take me to the others that I needed.
I would go to the site about what to do first: get a domain, choose a host, and begin to design & build your site. Well, those are not simple subjects; there's a lot of background you need to know. How much time and money are you willing to spend? What is the purpose of the site? Which is the best host for the intention of the site? Will you "practice" on free host sites or will you use a professional?
After months of research, I decided to make a site for just this reason. I started the site at a free host and have linked this blog to it. So, I intend to share everything I find out every day. I, by any stretch of my imagination, am not an expert - I learn every day and edit anything related. I will do my best to save other newbies a lot of "running around" wasting time searching instead of building their sites.
