In this week’s episode of Doctor Who, the title role of "The Doctor’s Daughter" is being played by the adorable actress Georgia Moffett. There is much speculation about where this mysterious insta-child sprang from. Nevermind the plot (or probably lack thereof) here is what has me full of fangirl glee-
In real life, her father is Peter Davison. He played the fifth incarnation of The Doctor.
Her mother is Sandra Dickinson. She played Trillian in the BBC tv version of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. (AKA the tv series of DOOM!!)
You may not be aware of this, but Trillian is one of my all time favorite fictional characters. Learn something new every day, dontcha?
So, this makes the actress playing the Doctor’s daughter the real daughter of The Doctor and Trillian.
Someone may have once said something to me about not confusing fiction and reality, but I don't think I was listening at the time.
I’m not even going to watch the episode, because nothing the writers can dream up can possibly compare with that lineage.
April 4th sees BSG begin its fourth and final season. As a fan I am saddened to see the ending of the best political drama with religious undertones that just happens to be set in space and feature killer robots. But I am also extremely amped up to see what great television this show is going to produce this season and to see how many of my questions will be answered. How is Starbuck alive? Is she the last Cylon? If not her than who? Will the colonists find Earth? Will Pres. Roslin be alive to see it?
Saturday is the return of the good Doctor for his fourth season (or series as the Brits call 'em) and he's got a new companion in Donna. Now I am a bit peeved that Martha Jones isn't riding in the Tardis this season but I am willing to gie Donna a chance as long as she isn't as shrieky as she was in the Runaway Bride special from a few Christmas's ago. Aside from a new companion this season is looking to be really cool with the return of not just one but three (four if you count Capt. Jack from TORCHWOOD) of the Doctor's former companions when Martha, Sarah Jane Smith and Rose Tyler all come back for the final arc of this season which should be a humdinger. There are even rumors that an entire episode will focus on just the past and present companions as they work together to save the Doctor.
For some reason when the sun starts to go down i get vexed. I hate the sun too! But I seem to be at a loss. It's as if i've lost something, or am missing something. Nothing changes my mood either, untill darkness falls that is.
I finally watched the new Doctor Who. The Runaway Bride. It's not new actually, but to me it is. I still can't get over Rose. I hated the bride at first because she seems to have a big mouth, and she was allways yelling about something. By the end of the show however, I was used to her. I need to find some more of the new season. I'm not quite sure how to search it though.
Here's a song that's stuck in my head.
Can you see me going down I am screaming out loud And the fear of god is in me now Dissolve In the moonshine I leave no trace My visions have gone Far away from this place They've dissolved Can you see me going down I am screaming out loud And the fear of god is in me now Dissolve
She's whistling- she often is- and it takes me a minute before I realize the tune. My Mother- the woman with the hatred of science fiction so strong it is rivaled only by her love of Hallmark movies. Whose worst nightmare was of being incapacitated and forced to watch SciFi channel all the time- (literally, she woke up sobbing from that one. Not so much the unable to talk or move part as the SciFi.) This dear woman who is open to new experiences and tolerant to a fault, but screams at the thought of science fiction in any form.
Is whistling music from Doctor Who.
I have finally corrupted her, and I am so proud. It's taken years of gently breaking down barriers of prejudice. We started with Roswell, which was really more soap opera than SciFi. Moved on to the Hitchhiker's Guide radio series on one particularly long road trip, which she enjoyed for the very British humor. Few months ago started gently introducing her to the amazing Christopher Eccleston and funny (and a little bit foxy) David Tennant. Some judicious editing to get to just the "good bits" and she's now unabashedly whistling Rose's theme from the Doomsday episode.
Granted, it's very pretty music.
I have succeeded where my Father has long failed.
We'll be working on Firefly next. Who knows? There may even be hope for Star Trek.
When Heroes finally returns to the screen at the end of this month, reportedly one of the new heroes will be played by the fantastic Christopher Eccleston. (AKA the 9th incarnation of Doctor Who, from the 2005 series.)
