Summer of 2008
Oh my! I haven't written here since June 4th! WOW! Got busy I guess and didn't have time to do much. I'm going to try and get caught up now! Way too much happened over the summer to get everything in, but here goes:
Vacation was ok. Went to a resort in West Virginia, just myself and Husband. For our anniversary mostly.Anniversary number 27! We stopped at Antique malls and shops along the way. Had fun doing that. It was cooler up in the mountains of West Virginia. One night we caught the full moon and went to a pond to lay back and watch it rise and light the sky up, and see a million stars shining brightly. It was a bit chilly that night. But it was awesome. We stayed at this resort for 4 days and 3 nights free of charge if we took their little tour. It was worth it to stay free! The place was nice, but I wouldn't want to live there! With gas prices this year, we couldn't afford to do much of anything. We used 1 tank there and 1/2 tank back. At filling my van up for $85 dollars a pop, that was expensive enough! We bought some antiques, but not a lot. We both were out of work for the whole week in July, and we traveled all over western North Carolina to some Antique malls we had been wanting to go to.

This a picture of the sun setting from our room at the resort through the woods.Nice.
Here's some of the full moon pictures. My camera didn't quite capture the best of
it!

I guess you need a faster lens to capture the fullness and brightness of it.My camera made it look tiny, and it was so huge!
Here's one of the moon in the sky and its reflection on the pond surface. It's pretty cool. Looks like two moons!

The other one is a close up I tried to do.

One morning in late July we got up on a Saturday morning and spied a deer in the back yard. Not unusual as we live in woods and woods surround us, and we live near the Yadkin River. Here's a couple pictures of it:

It wasn't afraid of our dog, and the dog was just sitting and watching it!

One Sunday in early August we went to Cracker Barrel to eat after church, and this strange car was in the parking lot! It had a license tag, so it was driven there! Check it out:

Pretty Cool hUH?  People were in the parking lot and taking pictures of it left and right! So low to the ground! Low Rider!

Below here is a picture I took today, August 27th, on Lasater Rd, in Clemmons NC at the water wheel. The wheel wasn't turning because of the huge volume of water, it was awesome! The lake was overflowing the dam and the little bridge I was standing on was shaking as the water roared under it! I took a video too. Hope to get it posted soon! We about drowned today! Some areas got 12 plus inches of rain. We have about 7" in our rain gauge! Areas are under flood warnings and watches. We had tornadoes in the area also. My radio at work kept going off with the warnings and such this morning. It was raining very hard.

It's taking forever for the video to upload. I will post it tomorrow! For now I need to sign off!  Will catch up some more tomorrow!

I WALKED IN THE WOODS!

Not on a path either mind you.

WOOD, logs, trees, limbs, roots, holes. Now, this may not seem like a big deal to most of y'all...but to me.. its HUGE.

I did have to dig out my old cane so I would have support as my left foot still tends to tip out to the side as I walk and being on very uneven ground it was challenging. I am not going to lie..I was nervous. Even thought about just telling my husband.. nope.. I don't think so.. .But I pressed through. Got a stomach ache. So we ended up leaving later.

My husband is so patient. I know he was waiting on hearing me say I wasn't feeling well. It really just made me that nervous. First of all the  hunting area is not around the corner...its about 40 miles away. Then I didn't want to begin the walk and not be able to make it to his destination......etc..etc.. etc.

So, I put on my camoflage pants and doo-rag. A girl has got to look the part. :)  Hubby failed to tell me that it really was QUITE a hike back there AND that it wasn't a CLEAR CLEAN PATH. hum.  Methinks he is smarter than he looks.

I really did well. By the end of it, I was VERY glad to see the truck. My leg was a little quivery and my hand was tired from clutching the stupid cane...but I never fell once! I really felt GREAT about doing something that I didn't think I would ever be able to do again. And I enjoyed going out with my husband. I made a few videos to send share with his nephew who enjoys hunting in NY and cannot fathom that here in GA Mark can get like 10 or more deer in one season on one tag.

Also, recorded him adding minerals to the ground and how he did it, so I will make a ehow article probably in the next few days using that video... I still prefer pavement or a more well defined path though...lmao!  And I didn't get to see a deer either :(  I think my husband enjoyed showing me where he will be spending the majority of his time during hunting season.

I am going to enroll the puppies in a training class I do believe. Might as well do it on Saturdays if I can. I need to find someone to help me, be the other 'handler' for one of the pups, or I am going to have to take the class twice, one with each of the puppies seperately. That will be more time consuming for sure...but they are 14 weeks old, and I want them to be healthy and happy. And I want to keep my sanity :)

WEll, enjoy the photos and vids kids! The last pic in gallery is of my tired tootsies.. I think we walked about 3 miles!

Love and Laughter,

Dawn

My blair witch....I don't have pro, so I couldnt turn it to black and white. Maybe another time :) I am such an idiot! LOL!

These are the deer that usually show up in my backyard.  They're pretty used to me and don't often run away, yet they don't let me get too close... just close enough to take pictures.  Seeing them every once and awhile makes me feel at peace.  Enjoy.

What I found outside my window this morning

Just a few pictures of my backyard.  This is what I see just about every morning.  Ice, deer, snow, trees, wildlife.  When it's dangerously cold outside, the deer come out more searching for food.  I'm tempted to leave them some corn or a salt lick.  They have nice thick coats of fur, but it's still gotta be heinously cold for them, too.  I love how the deer fade into the trees.  If you were standing where I was when I took the photos, you could see them clear as day, but with the camera I seemed to capture them blending in with the environment.

There are some really great long icicles outside my bedroom window, too.  But about the only thing I love about sub zero weather is staying indoors.  Lucky me got a cab ride to the computer lab today.  It's a twenty five minute walk to my apartment and this cold you can't stay out longer than ten minutes in!

Birthday time & New Year's
I turned 37 yesterday.  I celebrated by staying up all night.  Took a short walk and encountered an entire family (or is that a herd?) of white tailed deer.  I have deer hoof prints all around my apartment.  They've been hungry, knocking down the bird feeders for food.  I dreamt last night I was feeding them corn from my hands.  I shouldn't worry about wildlife, but I do.  I want to help the deer.  Is that crazy?

All weekend I've been watching movies and filling up my sketch book with new drawings and... I still lack a computer I can regularly get to, so I apologize for lack of updates.  If you don't hear from me for a while, don't worry, I'm wishing you a Happy New Year's right here and now!  I've been handwriting in my notebook journal, so I've got lots to share later when there's more time.

Here's my current favorite song of the year:
"Acceptable in the 80's" by Calvin Harris
featuring New Romantic movement fashions that were "acceptable" when I was a teen:

"I got hugs for you if you were born in the 80's!"
I wasn't born in the 80's but I did come of age in the 80's...
