Decorate @ MindSay
In other news, I woke up yesterday morning, came up the stairs, and may very well have crossed the living room in a single bound. I don't quite remember the method of passage, but I do remember an involuntary, "Eeeee!!" and finding myself standing, hugging myself and bouncing slightly, breathing in the scent of new Christmas tree.
My dad, in the kitchen, "Did I just hear a churchmouse?"
Between my noon class and dinnertime, I came home and decorated it. There's this interesting bit with our family's Christmas decorations - we have five or six big boxes down in the basement, and usually the tree ornaments are only in two. But there may very well be another box in another box that I have yet to discover.
But! Tree! Smells good! Christmasy! Shiny! Ornaments with stories behind them! MY Christmas music playing! Family's coming home!
So excited!!!

Work was cancelled due to weather ..... a bit windy with spurts of rain. So I'm home .... making my mom's hat for her senior potluck on Friday. They are supposed to wear a funny decorated hat .... and I got nominated to do that for her.
I finally figured out how to do this (above) too. I've been trying for weeks to figure out how to get this to work (the cachestats program) and I finally did! The stats are not all that impressive .... but thought I'd post anyway. It's kind of fun to be able to do this once in awhile.
Anyway ..... hat decorating is first on the agenda to accomplish today. Then hopefully laundry .... depending on mom getting hers done.
Peace. J.
My friend who works, part time with me but has a full time job, let me know about a position that might be coming up at her work. She does layout design for a real estate paper. Her title is an editor but her experience in graphic design got her the job. She also does brochures sometimes. She told me to give her my resume and I just emailed it to her. On one hand if I get the job, I will feel bad about leaving my co-worker now, who has become my closest friend. I love working with her but I can take or leave the job. I am torn with some guilt about the whole thing. I guess I’ll have to see what happens.
Oh I forgot to mention, we decorated the tree at my mom’s last night. My step father made the brilliant mistake of starting the lights at the top of the tree- you’re supposed to start at the bottom. So my mom and I decided to finish what he started and by the time we got to the last one, we had no prong to plug into the outlet. We then took all the lights off the tree which were so tangled it took about an hour to unwind them. All in all it took about two hours to trim the tree. Never listen to a man.
Earlier today I went to one of my favorite thrift stores. It's like four blocks from my apartment. It's run by, supports, and is named fro the St. Vincent De Paul Society (one of the Catholic versions of the Salvation Arny).
I saw there was a nativity set for five bucks. It was just the twelve figurines of all the people and a few animals. It was nothing fancy but it was neat. I was thinking of buying, not for myself but for my mother. I really have no need for a nativity set, I barely decorate for Christmas because I live alone. I do put up a small 3' lighted plastic tree (which I call my "Martha Stewart tree" 'cuz I bought it at Kmart") and a stocking.
But my mom loves to decorate for Christmas. She insists on getting a real tree every year. She has all the ussual reefs and knick knacks to put around the house. she has three or four CD's of Christmas music which she plays all the time the closer we get to the holiday.
We had a large beautiful nativity set when I was growing up but over the year it just got to old and got destroyed by us kids.
During the Thanksgiving diner at her house she had mentioned that she would like to get a new nativity set for the house. My mom was probably trying to drop a subtle hint of what she wanted for Christmas.
Next time I go back to the thrift store if that nativity set is still there I will buy it for her. The main reason why I didn't but it this time was because I was heading out to run errands. Now I'm done and the store is closed.
I'm sure it will make my mom feel nice. And it will give her one more thing to get all excited about every Christmas.

Mark M.
