Decision @ MindSay
I accepted a new job today, and I'm assuming that should make me happy, but it made me confused. I'm second guessing myself. I turned down the job, then 20 minutes later, I called back and accepted it. I know this job is probably better, convienence wise. But, is it a better job?
Why is Job 1 Good?
- Great boss
- Willing to work around schedule
- Willing to hire me full time for next summer
- I just love working there
Why is Job 1 Bad?
- It's far away from my house
- Along side that; I work hours that the bus is not available, and I need rides to and from work.
- I don't have rides.
- I can only work on the weekends because of shift scheduling, and then between Uni & work I have no days off.
Why is Job 2 Good?
- Again, they'll work around my schedule
- It's close to my house, and my boyfriend's.
- If I work hours the bus doesn't run, I can walk.
- I can work a wider variety of shifts, meaning my weekends have the possibility of being free.
- I don't know how good the job will be; haven't worked there yet, but I hear it's not too bad.
Why is Job 2 Bad?
- It's Fast Food. Need I say more? :P
I know there's more good than bad about switching jobs. That's why I'm even more confused as to whether or not I made the right decision. I know my current boss told me I could work there for the school year, but to take this job if I got it. She says she will work around my school schedule, but it's harder to do at that job. I'm more of a fill in now, but.. I don't know. I guess I don't have much time to decide.
I guess I really have decided already.
But, honestly, do we ever know if we made the right decision?
Ok, who wins in a yes/no decision? My husband wants to get a bird. A parrot to be exact. We're both animal lovers. It was one of the reasons I was drawn to him. We've taken in many animals over the years and it's never been a problem. When we lived out of town we thought it would be "fun" to have chickens. I was picturing Little House on the Prairie. We would have a cute little chicken coop. I would have chickens lazing about the property. I would pick my fresh eggs in a basket. Probably with an apron on and it would be so lovely. We went to the State Fair and they had "fancy chickens". We were hooked. They had chickens of all colors, sizes and patterns. Really beautiful birds. So my husband ordered some. Did you know that you can order chickens on line and they actually come in the mail. As chicks! Isn't that crazy! Well I knew he was ordering some chickens and we were going to build our chicken coop and paint it and put little shutters on it. Maybe a little Rooster weather vane. He ordered 25 chicks! Now I don't know about you, but I thought that was a lot of chickens. Now I've never had chickens, so who knows. When I questioned him about the number of chickens he ordered he said that he ordered that many because of course not all of them are going to make it. Not going to make it! What! This visual threw a huge wrench in my pretty little picture. I didn't want to think about these cute, fuzzy little chicks not making it. But he said we've never raised chickens before. Who knows. Let's hope for the best, plan for the worst. Ok. Makes sense to me. So we had 25 chicks. We had 25 chicks under heat lamps because this was spring in Minnesota. Not warm enough for small chicks to be in this coop condo we've built for them. And I'm sure I don't have to tell you that we did not lose a single chick. So a month or 2 later we now have 25 chickens. And let me tell you. 25 chickens don't lazily peck around your property. 25 chickens eat everything of green in a 5 mile radius. They scratched out the grass. They scratched out the mulch. They pooped EVERYWHERE. It was nothing like I imagined. And we have dogs. Not only do we have dogs. We have bird dogs. So you can imagine that the dogs were chasing the chickens. We were constantly screaming at the dogs. It was crazy. But we did fall in love with our chickens. Neighbors would come over and ask us if they could butcher some for us! Totally wrong. We had to explain to these country folk that these chickens are our pets. We appreciate the thought, but no. We'll pass on that. However, feel free to take a basket of eggs. We had eggs everywhere you could think of. Well, tragedy struck. We were at my dads lake cabin for the weekend and had a neighbor and his boy tending to our chickens for us. They called us at midnight on a Saturday night to sadly inform us that "something" had gotten into our chicken coop and we had missing chickens, dead chickens and wounded chickens everywhere. We were devastated We woke up the kids. Told my parents about the crisis and headed 31/2 hours home in the middle of the night. We loved our rooster. His name was Mister Big Boy. We asked the neighbor if Mister Big Boy survived. He wasn't sure. It was obviously dark. He didn't know how many were missing or dead. We got home at 3 in the morning. We were out with flashlights surveying the carnage and it was the saddest thing I ever saw. "Something" (we later found out was a neighbor way down the roads dog that was allowed to roam) got into our coop. Ripped down the fencing. Crawled under the coop and attacked those poor roosting birds. I was livid. We ended up losing half our birds. We ended up nursing back to health 5 of them. With tails missing, feathers ripped out. Wings mangled. Miraculously Mister Big Boy was fine. He was up in a tree and scared to come down. We were able to coax him down. Word got out about what happened to our birds. The neighbor with the dog did come over to confess that he thought it "may have been" his dog. My husband told him he had called the local animal control and was told that it is legal to shoot an animal that is on your property. And we would be enforcing our legal rights in the future. We never had a problem again with dogs breaking into the coop. However, it was a constant stress. We were afraid to leave overnight. We ended up moving to Texas and we re homed our birds to an organic egg farm in Southern Minnesota. I'm confident our birds lived a very nice life and I still think of Mister Big Boy often.
But I digress. So now he wants a parrot. I don't want a parrot. Not because of previous bad bird experiences. I just don't particularly care for indoor birds. So who wins? I think in matters of money (big expenditures) and additions to the family (children, pets, in laws) a no trumps a yes. A "no" requires no explanation. When making these big decisions, everyone has to be on board. Or it's only going to cause problems. If your heart or wallet isn't open to the idea, for whatever reason, you should follow it. Just say no.

* If you can, get an assistant or intern to take care of the small details to free you up so you can focus on the big picture. To improve your concentration, practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing and meditation. Get up once an hour and take a walk, get a drink of water, or talk to a co-worker.* Daily relaxation or meditation can also be helpful.

Rebound of Difficult BehaviorsOften the ADHD symptoms are under control early in the day, when the blood has a high level of medication, says Parker. As the medicine wears off and leaves the body, there may be a rebound effect. The difficult behaviors may return, often worse than before. This is not a true side effect, but rather a result of medication wearing off. If your child has afternoon irritability and trouble concentrating, it could be a sign of rebound effect.

What is bulimia nervosa?Bulimia (say "boo-LEE-mee-uh") is a type of eating disorder. People with bulimia will eat a large amount of food in a short time (binge). Then they will do something to get rid of the food (purge). They may vomit, exercise too much, or use medicines like laxatives.
People who have bulimia may binge because food gives them a feeling of comfort. But eating too much makes them feel out of control. After they binge, they feel ashamed, guilty, and afraid of gaining weight. This causes them to purge.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Causes of ADHDWhat exactly causes ADHD isn't known.
Experts do know that ADHD has a strong genetic component. In addition, they think that genes that control the levels of certain chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters seem to be different in those with ADHD.

Currently, several types of healthcare providers diagnose and treat individuals with ADHD. Psychiatrists, psychopharmacologists, and pediatric or family physicians are able to diagnose children with ADHD. They can also prescribe medication.
Psychologists and other mental health professionals can assist in the diagnosis and non-medication- treatment of ADHD. For example, they can help your child with behavioral therapy or social skills training. Mental health professionals also provide family therapy. There are also support groups for people with ADHD as well as family members.

I voted.
Yep...
I know, not that enthused. But it's true. I was
practically in tears yesterday and this morning.
And then at 12:45, after I'd eaten and returned
from Pub Lab, I voted. I darkened that McCain/
Palin dot and I was shaking the whole time. It
was the nerves of taking part in such a grand
thing, and also because it was my first time voting.
How utterly exciting. And when I slipped that
paper into the shawty tin box, it's like all my
fears were swept in there too. I'm still a bit
scared of what will happen. But I've prayed,
given my fears and worries up to God, I've
determined to have Faith in whatever God
decides is appropriate, and I did all I could do.
One vote, just one vote: but it's my voice on
that paper. It's my cry that's heard by God.
We shall see. O, America, we shall see...
