Quick, signal a national emergency!
This summer the Proteas (South African National Cricket Team) toured Australia, handing us our first home series loss in 17 years of Test Cricket domination at home. Australia barely held it's spot as #1 Test-Playing Nation by winning the final game of the series, but we still have a tour of South Africa comming up.
A few weeks ago Wellington Phoenix FC guaranteed that they wouldn't finish the regular season at the bottom of the table, giving the A-League it's maiden Australian wooden-spooners.
The Proteas then followed their win in the Tests with a win in the ODI (One-Day Internation) series. Releiving Australia of the title #1 ODI playing nation.
On Sunday the Black Caps (New Zealand National Cricket Team) beat the Australians in the ODI match, our chance to regain out #1 ODI spot. The New Zealand Women duplicated the mens feat by beating out womens team.
Shane Smeltz from the Wellington Phoenix and the All Whites (New Zealand National Football Team) took home the Golden Boot (most goals in a season) and Johnny Warren Medal (A-League MVP) last night in the A-League awards ceremony.
What has happened to Australia's domination of the sporting fields? It's been a fairly bleak summer all-up.
