Conservative Party @ MindSay
But you know the most "hilarious" part of this? It's that the 25 dollar DVD player will have to be paid back TWICE.
Uh... there's nothing in my conservative economic talking points about that. What do you mean?
It's first paid back when the consumers' credit card bills come in, and the second time to pay the taxes to pay the interest and principle on the Treasury bills that the Chinese government bought from the profits they made on the DVD player!
What do you think about that, conservatives?
One more thing. If you really believe there's a "War On Christmas," then answer me this: What DVD player would Jesus buy?
If:
You're a conservative.
A flag waving, patriotic conservative.
Who chants "USA USA USA!" at the rallies.
Who believes in freedom.
Do you believe in freedom for everyone, as described in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
Man, I am a super clutz! on friday, i spilled my pop all over myself...TWICE! and then last night, i was sitting on the floor, and pinched my pinky under the rocking chair, and now it's all bruised and so unbelievably sore! then, this morning at the college, I opened a 7up, and it exploded all over my pants. i'm clutzy...lol...my mom was right...maybe my nickname should be Dopey (ie-Snow White). And my coldsore is still here...it isn't sore anymore, just...scabby....gross.
Well...today is the federal election here in Canada. I voted last week during the early polls. I'm worried. If the rest of Canada votes Stephen Harper in, it's like a death wish for the majority of Canada, and no one sees it. they are so blinded by his promise of tax rebates, and tax cuts....but what they don't see is that he's going to take away our universal health care system, raise tuition fees, cut minimum wage, banish the universal childcare, stop gay marriage (which isn't that big of a deal, i don't care about people being straight or not, as long as they are happy.), ban abortion, which would suck for a lot of women, ending their rights of free choice....and basically turn us into a mini-United States (don't get me wrong, the US has some good features, but I like my Canada!). Stephen Harper is anti-Kyoto...if you haven't noticed, our winter this year, has been pretty much non-existant here, obviously there is something wrong with our atmosphere, and our leaders should be trying to figure it out.
and, Harper is pro-Iraq war...for those of you that support George Bush and his "war on terror" I'm sorry, but that is one thing I have been against the entire time. I do not want those that I love and care about fighting a war that we shouldn't even be fighting. We need to start respecting others and their cultures, not fighting them about something we have no control over. It is ridiculous that just because someone is Muslim, or comes from Iraq or Afganistan they are accused of being a terrorist, we should respect them and their beliefs. Maybe its naive of me to think this way, and maybe i have a very simple, childhood view of the world, but I know that the world could do with a little bit more compassion and understanding, and a lot less bombs and wars.
If you live in Canada, and are 18 years old or older, and have not voted yet, please, do not condemn our Canada to the Conservatives. There are other options. If you do not like Paul Martin and the Liberals, consider the NDP and Jack Layton. He is a very respectable man, and has not screwed up in the publics eye yet. Basically everything that Stephen Harper is against, Jack Layton will help reinforce. When Harper would get rid of health care, Layton will strengthen it. If you cannot vote for the NDP, consider the Green Party. They are very much like the NDP, but take a more "clean the earth" view. Very much of their campaign is about cleaning the economy, and fixing things that have been destroyed that we need.
If anything, VOTE! Don't sit there and let someone else decide the Canada that we will be "stuck" with, and don't bitch about it if you don't get out and vote. VOTE!!!!
Well, in this case, it's actually Prime Minister. Today is one of the most important days in Canadian history. Today is the day that the Conservative Party of Canada hopes to topple a 12 year reign of the Liberal government. My vote was cast last week on an advance polling day and at that moment, I had never felt so proud to be a Canadian. I exercized my social responsibility to vote and make a change in my world.
So many people tell me that they aren't voting because they don't feel that their voice will be heard and that their vote doesn't count. That is a lie. During the last election, my riding was decided by a difference of seven hundred votes. Twelve hundred people said that they were Conservative party supporters yet they didn't turn out to vote. We would have won if they had followed through. I spent my afternoon and evening last night going from door to door for the Conservatives confirming that people are supporters of my party and that they will be voting today. They all said yes except for one person who slammed the door in my face. Today I get to sit and wait (impatiently, might I add) to see if the party that I have supported through thick and thin gets to make the difference in our fine country. I am so tired of all the scandals that come up over night about how the Liberals have lost money again. I still am not sure how they lost $100 million dollars to begin with and then still elect the man who was finance minister at the time as the Prime Minister of the country. I am ready for an honest leader who will listen to both sides of the country. I am tired of being ignored because we don't vote the way the easterners do.
So many other people tell me that they aren't voting because they don't care. They don't vote because they haven't taken the time to read about and understand the issues. They take the election for granted and that frustrates me. So many people around the world put their lives on the line to vote. They dodge bullets just so that they can get a say in how their country is run. If you ever want to know what bravery is, take a look at the people who do that. In Australia, voting is mandatory. I think that it should be here as well. You can read a bit more about it here.
At the end of the day, I am a Conservative and I will be until the day I die. I won't push my beliefs on anyone though. The most important thing to do is vote. I don't care who you vote for (unless you are in my riding (Edmonton City Centre) and then I urge you to think before you vote) just vote. It's your chance to speak up and be heard. There needs to be a change and the change can start with you.
God bless,
Caz
