Why do they call it "conception" when the widdle sperm meets the widdle egg?  At that point, it's not a concept anymore... For some reason this has been the big question of my day since the car ride to work.

If your spouse drinks alcohol during her pregnancy, it could be harmful for herself as well as for the baby. Even a small amount of alcohol, or occasional drinking, can prove dangerous during the pregnancy and nursing period. Because women are often not aware that they are pregnant, until a few months into their pregnancy, health officials recommend that a pregnant or nursing woman should stay away completely from alcohol.

 

One way in which alcohol intake affects the unborn baby is by increasing the risk of fetal alcohol syndrome. Babies with fetal alcohol syndrome typically display a group of mental and physical defects. They may have severe handicaps and may require lifelong special medical care.

 

Children born with fetal alcohol syndrome may have:

• A smaller than average size and weight
• Disturbed eating and sleeping patterns
• Sight and hearing problems
• Decreased attention levels
• Learning problems
• Behavioral problems
• Need for special schooling

These are some tips to help your spouse give up alcohol:

• Learning to say no whenever offered a drink
• Staying away from places or situations that stimulate the urge to drink
• Using non-alcoholic substitutes such as cider, grape juice, and other non-alcoholic drinks
• Taking her doctor into confidence
• Joining an alcohol treatment program or support group

According to new research, the time of year a woman conceives may influence the future academic performance of her child.

When researchers linked standardized test scores of 1,667,391 Indiana students in grades 3 through 10 with the month in which each student had been conceived, they found that children conceived May through August scored significantly lower on math and language tests than children conceived during other months of the year.

The correlation between test scores and conception season held regardless of race, gender, and grade level.

Well, yesterday was the twins' birthday. They had a great day - although I was glad when it was over because two six year olds on a birthday high = arrghh! Haha, although saying that, by the time they'd gone to sleep last night I was on a high too so I was up all night.. lol.

The party went well, everyone had a really good time, they had like eighteen kids from their class at school there, as well as all of our family so it was pretty hectic - you have never seen so many presents in your life, lol, most of them didn't get opened until this morning!

 

In other news, I had a doctor's appointment today, about removal of birth control & trying for a baby. As I predicted, the doc laid all the negative points down, but we were persistent... it's what we both want and he's not going to change our mind. We're well aware of all the bad points of this, I KNOW how mad of an idea it is, but hell we're going for it all the same!

 

Sooo now I'm contraception-free and ready to be impregnated... hahaha. We're not messing around with ovulation tests and timing it around my cycle and crap because if you ask me it's a waste of money/time. We're just leaving it up to nature to decide...
