I Feel As If...

I have no right to complain about anything.

I have it so good. I'm a North American teenage girl who has so many opprotunities and should use them.

But no: I must be selfish and not do any of my shit. I'm a week or more behind in all my classes even though it's only the 3rd week of school. I really do think that they should put some less fortunate kid in my place at Westgate, because at least then the recources will be used and won't be wasted on a selfish punk like me.

I guess it's good that I at least realize how spoiled I am. I think about it all the time lately: For example, today Ian Tyson (the comedian, not the singer) came to our school and in his comedy/motivational speech he said "High school's hard..." and I immediately thought "No it's not. Poverty is hard. High school is just a place where spoiled brats like me come to mainly chat and maybe learn something if they can get off their lazy ass and use the opprotunity effectively."

However, just thinking about how lucky I am all the time doesn't justify my selfishness. I really should get up off my ass and do some work..however I know very well as soon as I'm done writing this I'm off to sleep and I will get up 20 minutes before the first bell rings at school and end up late/just about late for class.

Writing this all down doesn't justify my selfishness either. It just gives me a writen summary of myself (written by myself) to look back on, and maybe hit me hard a day I forget how spoiled I am.

*sigh*

On the Emmy Awards, which I did not watch, Tommy Smothers received a commemorative writing award for "The Smothers Brother's Comedy Hour" on TV in the late 60s. He replied:

"It's hard for me to stay silent when I keep hearing that peace is only attainable through war. And there's nothing more scary than watching ignorance in action." He dedicated his award to "all people who feel compelled to speak out, and are not afraid t speak to power, and won't shut up, and refuse to be silenced." HEAR HEAR!!!!

Comedy Loses its Edge: George Carlin Dies at age 71

As many bloggers have posted and mourned, we've lost a comedic genius on Sunday. George Carlin, best known for "Seven Words You Can Never Use on Television," died in Los Angeles, at the age of 71. According to his publicist, the cause of death was heart failure.

Carlin became a stand-up comic in the late 50's, and debuted his first solo guest appearance on "The Merv Griffin Show" in 1965. By the 70's, he was a well-known comedian, and had made more than 80 major television appearances, while regularly being featured in nightclubs in New York and Las Vegas, however he felt his clean-cut image was a lie. It was at this time Carlin reinvented himself to become the comedian we all grew to love; a man who wasn't afraid of words or honesty.

The Associated Press released the above news clip summing up details of his life and death. Carlin will be greatly missed, though his humor and inspiration will live on.

Pat Paulsen in 2008
First Family - Pat Paulsen.jpg hosted for free by ImageShack

You bet your Asti - that was one of my favorite quotes from the late Pat Paulsen, who has run for president for years, including this year - even though he is deceased.

"Death is No Exuse for Pat Paulsen.

The late Sonoma County comic-winemaker's family chose April Fool's Day to officially launch his 2008 presidential campaign.

When Paulsen long ago became the titular mayor of Asti, the grandeur of the office evidently went to his head.  He got off some classic lines as he ran for president every four years from 1968 through '96.

Among his favorite slogans:  "We Can't Stand Pat!"  His death in 1997, at 69, forced a campaign haitus.

Now he's back.  His widow and campaign manager, Noma Paulsen, just announced the top entries in a contest for a slogan for the new campaign (www.paulsen.com).  This one's good"  "Pat Paulesn '08:  Thinking Inside the Box."

A TV mockumentary on the eternal candidate is in the works.  Really"
