Football, Baseball, I'm Up Late
Illinois won today.  There would've been big problems if they didn't, since they were playing Ball State.

I'm watching the world series right now.  The Rockies finally started to make things interesting.  There's nothing worse than a boring baseball game, especially during the playoffs.

I think I'm rooting for the Rockies, just because they're the underdogs.  Really, though, I'll be fine either way.

The Thin Colorado Air And The Possible Rocky Mountain World Series
Jess Passan of Yahoo Sports wrote a really nice article about the Colorado Rockies' longtime 1st Baseman Todd Helton.
It will be highly interesting to watch the NLCS this week and next with two young teams battling mightily for a chance to play in the World Series. You have to like both of these teams, neither with a payroll in the top half of baseball. I believe Colorado and Arizona rank 23rd and 25th overall and both teams contain a myriad of young talent. While the Indians reside in the same payroll neighborhood, they've been expected to compete now since 2005. Overall, this is going to be good baseball. Very good baseball.

Autumn Snow in the Colorado Rockies

A weekend escape to see autumn in the Rockies. . . . prefaced by snowfall.  Blue skies and splashes of color accented by the layers of snow that mottled the pines.

Helton's Stomach Problems Revealed

Todd Helton's stomach problem is a mystery no more.

The Rockies said Tuesday the first baseman has been sidelined with acute terminal ileitis, an inflammation near the end of the small intestine. Team internist Dr. Allen Schreiber said he has prescribed more rest for the five-time All-Star before having Helton begin light exercise.

Helton, 32, was hospitalized Friday with stomach pain and released Monday to rest with his family.

Helton was placed on the disabled list retroactive to April 20 and will not be eligible to return to the active roster until May 5. However, the team said there is no timetable for him to come back.

This season, Helton is hitting .347 with one home run and nine RBI. He went on the DL last year for the first time in his career with a strained calf.
