Clear, Concise, and Stimulating
Champy says:
Of course some people aren't going to care what their blog looks like, and that is what makes the mindsay community so great. Each person, each idea is no less valid than the others. Some may want to use their blog simply for an online journal to share between their friends, while others (like myself) are intent on creating individual philosophy that can be shared worldwide.
The first thing I notice is that keeping an entry concise and to the point will solicit many more responses than a long, sometimes rambling argument. Many people have short attention spans and reading incoherent babble without a central theme will only discourage them from going elsewhere for intellectual stimulation. So, get an idea and write only about that idea in that one particular entry. If you find yourself sneaking into off-topic points, jot that down on some paper to write about in a later post. If you can keep people interested and thinking about one topic, it will be much easier to start a debate and get those replies rolling in.
Most everyone I know doesn't have 8 hours a day to sit on mindsay and browse and post and debate, although I'm sure we would all love to have some much leisure time. What I try to do is make people think about their core beliefs - and then question them. If you can reach out to a person and get them to expand their mind even a tiny bit, you can easily spark a debate that can go on for pages. Many people never question why they believe in something.
The mindsay community is an excellent buffet of ideas at our fingertips. Everyone has their story, and we can learn a little about life from each person we happen to come into contact with in this great community. And so, when writing, always keep that in mind. Try taking a different viewpoint when posting, take a stand on an issue that you haven't considered before. Keep your entry professional, funny, smart, but never condescending. Keep your mind open to new ideas, and don't get upset when people don't agree with you.
Use many paragraphs. And stay away from run-on sentences. They get confusing. And always, always, always keep writing. Always strive to better your style and learn what your fellow bloggers think. Don't get discouraged when you don't spark a debate right away because it's only a matter of time before you break out and a whole new online world opens up to you.
