Cat Pee @ MindSay
As I have been blogging for some time, I have had problems with my cats peeing outside of the cat box. First it was Wiz, then Pebbles followed where Wiz peed. Both of which got evicted from the house. When Wiz died I brought Pebbles back in and had no problems. I had cleaned the oriental rug to no end and thought I had the problem beat.
So I had no worries when I got Mugsy. Worries? I should have really been worried. He not only peed on my rug, he started peeing on my comforter right when I was in it marking his territory as I noted in a previous blog. After I finally took him to the vet to make sure his "issues" were not medical I had to make some decisions.
First off I do not like Mugsy on zanax. He is not the same kitty as he was before. I will deal with that once he is off his meds. So last night I pulled the rug out from underneath the dining room table which was no small task. I was told the table weighs about 600 lbs. I kept Musgy quarantined one more night so I could figure out what to do next and about him and the pee.
After thinking about it all day I decided to sand the area and more that had pee on it and finish it with some polyurethane. When I got home I was a man on a mission. I grabbed the belt sander and went to work on the infected area (the whole floor will eventually need to be refinished but this was a pressing matter). Sanded and finished the floor. The smell of cat pee was strong when I was sanding. The pee had soaked in real well. The polyurethane will probaly not dry until tomorrow but hey, lets see if this works or not. If it does, I have plans on taking the rug outside and doing a major clean this weekend. I just cannot imagine cat pee beating out poyurethane. It can't hurt things thats for sure. So far, only Pebbles has ventured near the finished area and she wanted nothing to do with it.
Now if they pee again on the rug after I have thoroughly cleaned it then I will have to buy another one. I have heard that if I use ammonia to clean it the smell of their pee should be eliminated. I have also heard that once they pee on something you cannot get the smell out. I tend to believe the latter but I am all for the fight! Idk, I have some enzyme cleaner that I want to use, let it dry and then shampoo the rug. What have I got to loose?
My last decision is to take Mugs off of the meds. I am going to leave him out all night but the hallway door will be shut again. I am curious to see if he pees on or around the area that I refinished. He just walked over there and took a sniff and walked away. I will find out soon enough as what will be will be.
Not just yet but he is close to being put back up for adoption. I hate to do the after I have grown attached to him but he keeps peeing on the bed and on my oriental rug. I just cannot take any more of it.
He was a good cat all weekend long. But I did find a new spot on the rug that I had to clean. I let that go since I learned it after the fact. Tonight when I got home from work I left all of the doors in the house open so he had free range. I walk into the bedroom to get some sweat pants and out of habit I looked at my comforter. Sure as hell he had done it again. Right next to where Pebbles was napping. I found him and after resisting the urge to strangle him he got rubbed in his pee. I know this does nothing to prevent it from happening again but it made me feel good.
So I grabbed the comforter and threw it in the wash. Then I checked the rug that I had just cleaned and sure enough, it was wet again with pee. Too make sure this was not my fault, not cleaning the litter boxes, I checked them and both were clean.
Tomorrow I am going to review my adoption papers and check out my options. After that I am going to call them to see what advice they may have. He is nuetered, gets a lot of attention so I really do not know what else I can do.
I may end up taking him back this weekend and if so that will be that last time I have two cats at the same time. Or I can keep him and just deal with it. The floors are going to need to be refinished at some point anyway.
I wish I knew that best way to eliminate this problem. I like having him around. He can be such a sweet cat sometimes.
What have I gotten myself into?
After about three squirts from the squirt gun, that strong willed, stubborn new adoptee cat of mine, Mugsy, has tolerated my new weapon of cat destruction. He will just sit there and let me squirt him. No big deal to him. And yet he goes back to the door, scratches on it and howls.
And I have also found new puddles of pee in the utility room. Now I went through that with Wiz, hence the name, and I do not want to have to go through that again. So I will keep adapting my strategies to fend off the irritating behavior that this cat displays.
I was beginning to wonder why this beautiful cat was sent to the shelter but maybe I am finding out.
Now why do people deny God. The big bang theory even goes along with God's work. The theory states that the universe exploded out of a nothingness into what it is today. God said it, and it was. God said "Umm, I want little planets and stuff with stars and colors and clouds" and it was. Also, how do people form pictures in their head? There are wires and links and sections of the brain devoted for functions. But there isn't a section to form and view things. It just happens. It is unexplained. There isn't a projector in your skull that you record and watch.
Anywayz, today I am trying to set up student loans. I know NOTHING about them, but I hope they help. Also Glens called on my application. Wooh!
