There are things that I will never understand...
Interesting this thing that has come to be known as the vote. It is amazing how little value a vote has in this state. Today was Primary Day, and I voted…

Pulling into the parking lot of the neighbourhood school, I notice one car doing laps in the area where the teachers park. This was the area closest to the door that opened up into the world of the election process. Noting that this was a woman much older than myself, I decided to allow her to grab the first available spot in the lot, and I took an “unofficial” spot at the far end of the lot. I thought to myself that the turn out most be large this primary…

I walked and walked through the lot. At a point somewhere around half way, a spot opened and the woman parked her car. And I walk up to the point where workers for the politician handed me candy, tables, pens, and stickers – it was like Christmas. I entered the room where the deed would be done expecting to have to wait for my turn to cast my vote for those who I deem worthy of running for office in the fall…

Much to my dismay (horror maybe), I was alone except for the election folks. Well OK, there was the woman who grabbed the spot in the parking lot, but other than her, I was utterly alone casting my vote…

It’s a shame that people do not wish to be part of the entire process. What is really a shame is the fact that I will have to put up with quite a few people this fall whining about the choice they have in candidates. Someday if I allowed myself to do so, I will snap and grab one of the whiners by their throat and scream into their face, “You get exactly what you deserve…”

There are people on this planet who have died, are dying, and will die for the right to vote, and some people just do get it. Hey, if you do not wish to vote, I know a few countries on this planet where you will never have to worry about the time needed to vote and this country provides you the freedom to go there and be happy…

Some folks just don’t get it…

This is the Word of the AntiCrust…

Praise be ye who Read the Word for ye are Blessed amongst humans…

If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president...

Well, in this case, it's actually Prime Minister.  Today is one of the most important days in Canadian history.  Today is the day that the Conservative Party of Canada hopes to topple a 12 year reign of the Liberal government.  My vote was cast last week on an advance polling day and at that moment, I had never felt so proud to be a Canadian.  I exercized my social responsibility to vote and make a change in my world.

So many people tell me that they aren't voting because they don't feel that their voice will be heard and that their vote doesn't count.  That is a lie.  During the last election, my riding was decided by a difference of seven hundred votes.  Twelve hundred people said that they were Conservative party supporters yet they didn't turn out to vote.  We would have won if they had followed through.  I spent my afternoon and evening last night going from door to door for the Conservatives confirming that people are supporters of my party and that they will be voting today.  They all said yes except for one person who slammed the door in my face.  Today I get to sit and wait (impatiently, might I add) to see if the party that I have supported through thick and thin gets to make the difference in our fine country.  I am so tired of all the scandals that come up over night about how the Liberals have lost money again.  I still am not sure how they lost $100 million dollars to begin with and then still elect the man who was finance minister at the time as the Prime Minister of the country.  I am ready for an honest leader who will listen to both sides of the country.  I am tired of being ignored because we don't vote the way the easterners do.

So many other people tell me that they aren't voting because they don't care.  They don't vote because they haven't taken the time to read about and understand the issues.  They take the election for granted and that frustrates me.  So many people around the world put their lives on the line to vote.  They dodge bullets just so that they can get a say in how their country is run.  If you ever want to know what bravery is, take a look at the people who do that.  In Australia, voting is mandatory.  I think that it should be here as well.  You can read a bit more about it here

At the end of the day, I am a Conservative and I will be until the day I die.  I won't push my beliefs on anyone though.  The most important thing to do is vote.  I don't care who you vote for (unless you are in my riding (Edmonton City Centre) and then I urge you to think before you vote) just vote.  It's your chance to speak up and be heard.  There needs to be a change and the change can start with you.

God bless,

Caz

IMPORTANT, OFFICIAL POLL:
This is to give you folks an idea of how important your opinions are to me. I have 5 more full days of vacation left (after today) – the last of my vacation time this year *sighs deeply in despair*. I’ve already lost 3 days of it wallowing in my own viral filth on this sofa. But since, as of earlier this afternoon, I’m feeling like I might well live through this seasonal infection, I’m debating on how to spend these last 5 days of precious freedom.

It was originally my intent to do some much needed chores around the place – like unpack some stuff from the basement (stuff that’s been waiting to be unpacked for over 2 years now…or is it 3?); clean out the kitchen cabinets so I can sand them and repaint them so they don’t horrify every unfortunate soul who’s curse it is to actually see them; clean up the bathrooms so they’ll be ready to paint some weekend in the far distant future, so they will no longer resemble country filling station bathrooms; rip up the half-rotted carpet in my mom’s end of the house, not because I’ll have time to work on the wood floors beneath, but just to get the filth and grime embedded in it out of the house where human beings tread; or should I start de-junking the bedroom that’s destined to be Kendall’s bedroom (not that THAT won’t be a junked room also); maybe finish spackling and sanding on the ancient walls of my mom’s end of the house, maybe even paint one or two (even though, regardless of how much work I put into anything in that end of the house, 2 weeks later my mom and Kendall – both of whom give new meanings to the words ‘slobs’ – won’t have it all trashed and looking like I never did anything there).

OR…should I just take it easy these last few days and do stuff I genuinely enjoy doing, like ride my 2 fat mares; wander about the neighborhood looking for photo opps; putter in the garden and the dirt; gather up and organize my photography and artwork, make some new prints or – better yet, think of some ways to market the ones I already HAVE; or work on some paintings; maybe fiddle a bit with learning Dreamweaver – that awesome program I still gaze at from across the room with great trepidation?

What’s the verdict, Mindsay? Cast your official vote HERE! Polls close in just minutes less than 10 more hours from NOW!
