where sugar goes to die

Totally. Old.

But at least I got a pretty necklace and a pilgrimage to the world's longest candy counter!

Eric outdid himself with this little number:

A Guinness-Book-worthy feast for the eyes:

Since Eric has been spending ungodly amounts of time away from home for work, we cashed in some of his hotel points and celebrated my birthday in Littleton, NH. I hadn't been to the White Mountains and felt the big 3-0 demanded more than dinner and a movie, so off we went for a little adventuring à deux. Perks of Eric's ungodly travel volume include Hilton Rewards gold status, which resulted in an unexpected upgrade to a whirlpool suite!

We came away from Chutters Candy Store with a king's ransom in candy: organic soft licorice, sweet Finnish licorice, chocolate Squirrel Nut Zippers (a tip-of-the-cap to one of my favorite bands), chocolate cookie dough bites, chocolate-dipped coconut patties, Toxic Waste brand sour candy and more. After seeing the town and having supper, we watched a couple of flicks in our room. I don't have the strength to be kind: 27 Dresses was a steaming pile of crap (The Heartbreak Kid was marginally better).

When we got home Eric hooked me up with a pefectly yum-licious mini birthday cake topped off with a big ol' scoop of non-dairy frozen dessert (damn you lactose intolerance), enjoyed against the appropriate backdrop of a Food Network wedding cakes marathon. All in all, it was a fine way to celebrate a milestone!

90's song of the day: Candy - Iggy Pop and Kate Pierson
Reading tootboy's article on China Girl, it brought to mind another Iggy Pop song I love, Candy.

This is a duet sung with one of the B-52s, Kate Pierson.  Man I thought she was cute back in the day...

Not Iggy, however.  I think he started the whole "I'm a rock star and I don't care how I look with my shirt off" thing.  Ah well...

This song also reminds me of my Freshman year in highschool.  1990 for those of you that care ;)

Anyway, here is the song:

Entry 8. [Comforting] --- Candy Messaging.

Dixie currently feels:

Comforting Smiley

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, my dad bought me a black ink cartridge for my printer.

Today, my mam bought me a tube of PVA glue for my Textiles coursework.

Today, my nana bought me a four-pack of Lovehearts candy.

Lovehearts are small fruit-flavoured candies that seem to melt in your mouth.

On each one, there's a message.

There used to be few messages in them, and you'd get the same message a few times in the same packet.

Between these four packets, I haven't had a single duplicate message. Smiley

I think the American version of these sweets are called Sweethearts.

Lovehearts are made by Swizzels Matlow, if you were wondering.

A great sweet company - very high in sugar content.

I'm going to use them to send a message to my special friend, whom I love.

Emily:

"I love you." "Hold me." "Be happy."

"It's love." "Forever." "Trust me."

The Love Ring
Valentines Day.

Growing up my dad always loved to get carried away on this day of love.  Mom always got the super duper big box of chocolates and I would get the miniature version.  Mom would always get some sort of other gift as well.  And of course .... so would I.

The gift I personally remember the most was my "LOVE" ring ..... I wore it without hardly removing it up until a few years ago when the jeweler told me it really could not be fixed again .... the band wore so thin.

It was my first ring with a diamond (chip) ..... and at the time I was totally psyched.  The chip was placed in the "O" of the word LOVE.  The words on the card I will never forget ..... "The word love in this ring does not mean love the world .... it means the world of love this father has for his 14 year old daughter".

The card moved with me time and again until one day during a move while in a drugged haze I left behind some things that meant so much to me, but were more than likely in a county dump by the time I realized I didn't have them.  But the words are still in my head ..... the ring now put away in a box in a safe place.

There is no monetary value to the ring ..... but the memories that go with it are priceless.

Today Valentines Day comes and goes .... mostly without recognition.  Someone from my mothers church always sends the widowed women flowers and candy.  Dave goes through the day without so much as a clue .... and I have let it go long ago. I have the love of a good man .... one who loves me and puts up with me more than anyone should ever have to .... and for that I am lucky.  And without trying he shows me more times throughout the year that I am his Valentine.

So ..... a Happy Valentines Day to everyone .... I hope cupid sticks you with his arrow ....

Peace.  J.
