~ When I Wish Upon a Star ~
3/23/05 bjb
When I wish upon a star,
It's not to find out where we are,
It's not to learn what my day will hold,
It's not about money, or gems, or gold.
When I wish upon a star,
It's because I do know who we are,
I know what lifts and builds our hearts,
And I know what tears it all apart.
When I wish upon a star,
I sometimes think we've gone too far,
Too far away from kindness and caring,
Into a world of privacy and not daring
To be kind and caring to those we meet,
To those at work or those in the street,
Such sophistocation, such isolation.
Can we go back to a friendlier persuasion?
Can we see beyond our own fence,
And begin to use some common sense,
And realize the reasons for our global mess,
All start within our own defense?
Can we change our point of view,
And realize our neighbors are people too?
We're all the same down deep inside,
We all need faith, hope, and love to abide.
