Sparkpeople - What The Hell?!
I signed up for this free website months ago that keeps track of your calories consumed, calories burned, etc. based on your height, weight, age, etc. This website has been all over the news, people keep saying how awesome it is. So, Sparkpeople told me that based on all of the above stuff, I should eat about 1700 - 2100 calories a day. I find it really hard to eat even 1700 calories a day, so I posted on the message board saying that I can't eat that much and what should I do. One of the leaders of Sparkpeople wrote me back and told me that I should be eating about 1500-1700 calories a day if I want to lose a pound a week. So... what the hell? I rely competely on this website to help me lose weight and now I'm being told that I'm doing something wrong?! I was doing what they told me to do! I feel like this is Sparkpeople's mistake and now I could suffer for it! What if I gain some weight back?... because of what they did!? It's just not fair! I'm not a nutritionist! Thank God my next door neighbor is a nutritionist... I could just go talk to her, but I hate to take up her time because she just had a kid and she's probably busy taking care of him.

I'm going to a wake today at 2 PM. I'm sort of excited. It'll be my first wake ever. It's one of my cousins, who was like 66 or so. My dad says that I knew him, but if I did, I can't remember... as usual.

*sigh* Right now... I just want to curl up into a ball and die. I don't want to think right now. I'm so confused, sad, angry, betrayed, and anxious. I'm sick to my stomach.

Feeling Under The Weather
Yeah, that's right. Just as the title said, I'm feeling a bit blue today. I belong to this website that tracks your progress as you lose weight. I entered into a new "weight loss stage" according to this website and I need to pick up the pace a bit and burn more calories a day. I was burning about 350 calories, but now I have to burn about 437 calories. I'm a bit bummed out because if I want to continue to walk to lose weight then I would have to walk for an hour and a half. There are better and quicker ways to burn calories, but I can't do them. I could roller skate, but the road is too bumpy and if I fall and break my face I don't have any insurance to go to the doctor. I could run, but this fall pollen has got my chest all tight. I know these are all just stupid excuses, but they really do hinder me from working out. It seems like my only choices for right now are to:

1.) Get over it and walk for 90 minutes a day OR

2.) Figure out another way to burn 437 calories without going to a gym or buying expensive equipment

I don't mind walking, but I get bored just walking in a circle around the neighborhood. I don't have my license so I can't drive myself to the park. I know my dad won't drive me to the park every day. I think it's too far to ride my bike or walk to the park.

So anyway, yeah... that's why I'm a bit depressed today. I'm just worried that I won't be able to burn the recommended number of calories per day.

Late Night Snacks to Cure Every Distress

Here is quite an interesting article from Yahoo foods that is much debated.  What do you think?

http://food.yahoo.com/blog/beautyeats/5294/late-night-snacks-to-cure-every-distress/

If we weren't meant to eat late at night, why is there a light inside the refrigerator? Besides, there are times when you just gotta have something. The trick is to be prepared. Because the main problem with nighttime nibbles has less to do with when you're eating than with what you tend to eat after hours. Instead of reaching for a pint of mint chocolate chip or a slice of day-old pizza, stock up on the following -- there's something here for every midnight muncher.

If you're stressed to the max
Rich, sugary comfort foods actually do short-circuit stress, but they also contribute to belly fat. So try to resist the chocolate chip cookies and grab a handful of unsalted almonds instead. The satisfying crunch will help you work off your anxiety, while the B vitamins and magnesium help your brain make relaxing serotonin. And at only 160 calories for about 22 almonds, you won't add weight worries to your woes.

If you're just tossing and turning
Starchy carbs may help you nod off. Why? Foods that quickly raise your blood sugar also raise blood levels of the amino acid tryptophan, which the brain converts to mind-soothing serotonin. So unless you're a diabetic, microwave a potato, warm up some instant rice, pop an English muffin in the toaster, and wait for the Zs to happen.

If you're burning the midnight oil
You could mainline coffee to get your Powerpoint project done overnight, but that'll just leave you with a world-class case of jitters the next morning when it's time to run it by the boss. A better bet, believe it or not: a salad of dark greens and chopped veggies. Not only will the complex carbs in the veggies give you energy, they're full of folic acid, which new research suggests helps your brain work faster.

If you're on a diet or just plain hungry
Give that rumbling tummy a little bit of protein, like a low-fat cheese stick, some lean turkey, or even an egg-white omelet. Eating about a third of your daily calories in lean protein keeps you feeling full, and a there's new evidence that it may also help you burn a few extra calories while you sleep.

If you're pregnant
Forget the pickles, but have the ice cream. Extra calcium is excellent when you're eating for two.

Baby-and-Me Smoothie
½ cup fat-free vanilla ice cream (or 8 oz nonfat vanilla yogurt)
1 banana
1 cup frozen, unsweetened strawberries
1 Tbs. frozen orange juice concentrate.

Puree everything in a blender until creamy. Then put your feet up and enjoy every sip, knowing that you're getting about 340 mg of bone-building calcium -- more than 20% of your recommended daily value -- plus a bunch of vitamins and minerals, so the 373 calories are anything but empty. Even better: The milk protein and banana contain a bit of sleep-inducing tryptophan.

Balance
You have to find the balance between accepting yourself for who you are and being unhappy enough with your currant weight that you will do something about it.  Ask yourself, Do I want to eat this ice cream more than I want to loose one pound.  I shared a candy bar with my hubby tonight, equal haves, we split 230 calories.  Know how many extra calories your eating when you snack, one source suggested that you can figure 25 calories per bite of your child's meal that you finish, or bites that you have while cooking or cleaning up. Count them.  Know what your putting in your mouth.  Ask yourself, How badly to I want to change my currant situation?  What am I willing to give up now, that I wasn't willing to give up before?  What is going to motivate me?

I work in a tourist town, Wisconsin Dells.  In the shop next to the one where I work, there are all kinds of temptations.  It's called " The Cream Puff Company"  (they use real cream and whip it fresh every morning)  It wold be so easy to give in, however, I am no longer happy being the size that I am, and I want to lose that next pound, more than I want that luscious treat.  and I have to keep wanting it.

Every 20 lbs lost, I am going to reward myself with some new clothes.  I'm shopping around, I'm looking at catalogs, I'm making my wish lists.  But I'm not shopping till I reach the 20 lbs increment.  (and let me tell you, I need some new clothes)

I work again tomorrow, but will be taking my usual walk in the evening.  and I'm going to work on a better Sunday/Monday routine for future weeks.
