snow heavenly snow

it started in the middle of the night and by morning it was a small blizzard. By the afternoon while my oatmeal bread was rising we decided to go exploring on foot. It takes Jim forever to suit up and so I was ready with over 20 snowballs and pelted him with them as soon as he opened the door. we cut through the blackberry brambles field which was covered with show and ended up in the nature preserve behind the next street. it was heavenly white and the wind roared through the ravine where Fanno creek runs. Kids were out sledding and a sweet little miniature white husky was having a ball running and jumping through the snow. Abi stalked the snow flakes on the deck and then decided  this was not worth the effort and came back inside.

tonight we will decorate the pagan yule tree and have a grand fire and then watch Holiday Inn. We are missing an interfaith service at the Havurah as the roads are not so great and will only get icier. I wonder  about tomorrow at the Chinese gardens too. But right now I am just enjoying the winter wonderland and how blessed a life I live. Here is a view from the dining room. all done up with red lights and holly from the hedges.

An Artisan-Bread Church
I have recently started going to the Panera Bread Store to enjoy a bowl of soup and some of their wonderful Artisan bread. When you walk in the door you are immediately hit with the smell of fresh baked bread. As I sit there eating I realize people just don’t come here to buy bread they come for the experience. As you approach the counter you see all kinds of breads and pastries as well as a list of sandwiches and soups. People are sitting with their laptop computers surfing the net with free wi-fi, reading the paper, or just talking with a friend. No one seems to be in any hurry to leave.

On Panera’s website they describe themselves this way: We are a symbol of warmth and welcome. We are a simple pleasure, honest and genuine. We are a life story told over dinner. We are a long lunch with an old friend. We are a weekday morning ritual. We are the kindest gesture of neighbors. We are home. We are family. We are friends.

Now I know that the number one purpose of the church is to worship God. We gather every Sunday to give praise and thanks to our Heavenly Father. But shouldn’t this description of a bread store also be that of a local church. “A symbol of warmth and welcome/ simple pleasure, honest and genuine/ a life story told over dinner (Holy Communion)/ a long lunch with an old friend (Carry-In)/ a weekday morning ritual (prayer, Bible Study)/ the kindest gesture of neighbors (mission & outreach)/ we are home/ we are family/ we are friends.“ Grace & Peace,  Revj

A Variety of May Pictures!

The first three pictures are of the Forrest Mushrooms my mom bought for us (I paid her back:P).  They are smaller then the other type of shrooms we normally eat from the wild and aren't as buttery tasting but still GOOOOOOOOD!

The first picture is of them soaking all day in salt water.  Salt water kills all the lil bugs and such off of them.  The second picture is of them nice and cleaned off (part of them anyway) and ready to be dipped in batter!

The third picture is of them deep fried and yummy tasting.

I used crackers for this go around of breading.  The kids perfer that over flour.  But I perfer the flour breading mixed with a lil corn meal myself!:D

The next round of pictures if of the tree that came down in that big thunder storm that rolled through our area of NE in the middle of May.  We had no clue that it came down!  And our bedroom window is on that side of the house! The top window showing is Colt's window.  Our window on that side of the house isn't showing.  Colt didn't even hear the tree coming down.  And it had to hit hard!  Randy had to hook the big truck up with his chains to pull out some of the bigger branches from my yard, they were embedded into the ground! The lil dog kept waking us up that night and we kept getting after the poor thing for barking!  She was just trying to warn us the tree was falling was all!
