We had a lovely day on the lake today.. I didn't swim as much, believe it or not, the water was a little cold but there was also more stuff floating from the rain. I feel bad that we don't take Jillie with us ( our older 9 year old) on th boat, but this year she just doesn't seem to tolerate the heat very well, she pants like a fiend and I am afraid she is going to pass out or have a heart attack on us. Even going to the park for walks she is just miserable when its humid or hot. Poor little hun:

A fire rescue boat flies by us:

This is the bridge that goes to Lake lanier islands, a 'fun park' and campground...but in the years past we have been able to just drive our boat right under and thru to the other side of the lake... Alot of boats would tie up to the top of the bridge to fish at night. Certainly can't do that now due to the drought we have been having:

Winner: A Personalized Poem for you written by me. Dawn. ( woot!- lol)

Begin:

Yep. No campfire. HOW did I NOT see that none of these sites had a campfire pit when we visited here last month? ARGH. How very dissapointing to say the least. I am trying to be positive about this, but I probably should have stayed home and worked on my taxes. ( THAT folks is a whole 'nother post! LOL!-I need someone to barter with!)

This is a mom-pop outfit here, 1. NAME THIS SONG THAT FITS THIS MOMENT I can see that back 20 or more years this was probably very family oriented and probably had scads of families here that knew each other and hung out at the community pavilion overlooking a small pond that is now covered with a layer of green frog spit 2. SHOULD A WOMAN KISS A FROG-THE ANSWER IS HERE. Blech. Mark says that is because it is spring fed, but doesnt have an outlet. There is a cute walking trail around it. Then there is the upper pond. Another trail around that, flowers planted by the 'boat' they built there as their home on the 'lake'.. grins... its cute.. I like that feature. You can fish here by the pound. .. first you buy a fishing 'permit' even if you already have a state fishing license for $3.00. Then whatever fish you catch, 3. NAME THE METHOD OF MEASURING FISH IN THIS VID you pay for them by the pound if you keep them. Interesting. I like to fish, but I dont like to clean them, lol..

Mark left this morning for his hunt. Which is about 5 miles down the road. Last night when we got all set up, we went down the street.. woops...road... its definitely a RD, for some ice, we passed a Brown Sign that said 4. NAME THE CAMPGROUNDS F.  What? Lol. .. my wonderful hubby told me that park was too far from his hunting grounds, so I didnt pursue going to a nicer park, that had water, campfire pits, and probably PEOPLE to interact with in common areas.

After checking it out on the internet this morning, I find its only 13 miles down the 'road'...Live and Learn. The sacrifices I make to compromise with my husbands hunting 'hobby'.  I am currently listening to Survivor  5. NAME THE SONG " on the radio ( is that apropo?)  and watching traffic go by on the main 'road.'... yes folks we are about 500 feet from the road near the exit sign of the park.  But my hubby is happily hunting.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not miserable here, just slightly disappointed... but there is nice picnic table here that I am sitting out here under our awning, typing away on the internet ( **laughs loudly--oops startled jillie!!) Maybe the next time we will go to 6.NAME THIS ONE INSTEAD, I like that it has a lake with boating available.

Song switch, 7. NAME THIS SONG. I loved this song growing up. It sort of fit right into all the 8. NAME OF THE BOOKS I used to read 24/7. I wish I could remember the title of the first one that I read. I can 'see' the cover in my mind's eye, and it was based on a woman traveling to Norway and working on a ship, and the scene I recall the most vividly was when she was freezing wet and went to her "lover" and he tenderly took off her drenched white sweater and took care of her when she was out of her mind with fever, etc. I would love to find this book and re-read it!  Understand that I read this book when I was in 4rth grade! From then on I would read literally bags and bags of those books. I went from Nancy Drew to an insatiable appetite for romance and escapism. 9. NAME THIS ROMANTIC GETAWAY!

Well, I have had fun doing this entry, I hope you enjoyed it too! Now I am going to work on my newsletter to send to my clients. I actually AM enjoying this time, and while it may not be my 'true' idea of camping ( nor yours probably!) but I am using it as time to just relax and enjoy doing some of the things I like to do creatively.  I don't know how some of you always respond to my posts, because I don't get to reply to many that I read, and for that I really want you to know how much 10. NAME THIS SONG I appreciate y'all!

THE END!

Family Reunion Time At the Lake!
The Whole Gang
(Click on any of the pictures to view them bigger or surf the whole album.)

It's been 6 years since my son and I joined the rest of the family for a few days of summer fun and frolic at our favorite spot in Northern Ontario. I'm pretty sure I learned more about myself in the few short days with my family than I learned in the previous 2 seminars I attended just days before!

My son and his cousins represent the 5th generation on Red Cedar Lake Camp! My Great Grandfather helped to build one of the fishing camps on the lake. 250 miles North of Toronto, my Grandmother talks of 12 hour drives on rutted roads sleeping on the floorboards of the family car as a child. Today the drive is just under 5 hours with widened and paved roads! Our summer getaway is a serene and fairly untouched lake. It sits on Crown land and there's very few private property owners on the lake itself. The energy of the place rejuvenates the soul and quiets the mind, even though it takes a couple days to acclimatize to the slower, more relaxed pace! We catch the most fish too! After 5 generations we are "at one" with the fish...

I'm always pleasantly surprised at how "functional" our family is in this environment, the drama and challenges get put aside and left behind - fun is the focus of the days. Rich customs and rituals have developed over years of gathering together for the annual time-out. July is a month of anniversaries - Mom & Dad's 46th this year, birthdays and first times in the water!

We had so much fun, next year we have reservations to stay for a month!

Brother Jeff

Until then...keep a tight line eh?!

Do you use PMS as an excuse or as a method to be more aware?

Can you pick out Dawn in this picture?

I joined the local YMCA this week... starting up the water aerobics classes again. This Y is just down the street, convenient for me and on the way home from work if I wanted to go after work.  Maybe..lol!

I didnt particularily enjoy this class. The instructor looked like she got out of bed on the wrong side. The music was too loud for us to hear her...they asked her to turn it down, and she kept saying if they would stop talking, they could hear her. When asked again, she replied, "it doesnt go down any further"... Huh? Then get a new boom box lady! I actually got out 20 minutes early cause I began to get a headache.

Wondering why I titled the blog that way? Well, on my way out of the locker room... oh by the way.. miss dawn forgot a key item for her water class....a TOWEL. GEEZ... Air dry. lmao!  Anyhow.. I asked them...if she was always like this, etc.. and they said, maybe she has PMS.

I have always hated hearing that.In fact it rightly ticks me off.  If you know you are prone to PMS, then you can use that information to be more cognizant and be proactive in your own life management. Make the adjustments needed to get you, and those around you, through that time of your cycle. Personally I don't care to know who is having their menses or not. I would actually rather not know.

In fact, I recall my mother instructing me on hygiene and she emphatically told me that no one would have to know unless I told them, and then she asked me a question: "What importance is it for you to tell someone that you have your period?" (Unless it's a health issue of course-I am talking about just daily life)

I personally think its a cop out. I do understand that some women have more extreme symptoms than others, but I still think it becomes an excuse for many to be rude, lazy, whiney, bitchy and inconsiderate for a week. Or whenever the urge strikes them.

Ladies, let's bring charm back. Read about PMS, educate yourself, find ways to deal with the annoyances or just feeling agitated for no reason.  Also, take time for yourself. Get a pedicure, manicure, facial. Go for daily walks. 10 - 15 minutes a day will make you feel like a dynamo!

If meals cause more stress, prepare some ahead of time to have in the freezer, or simply plan on a night out or delivery.

Here are some more alternative ideas:

1. Pressure point power: there are two easily accessible pressure points that can almost instantaneously give you pms cramp relief. The first is below your belly button. To find it, use two fingers to measure the exact position of the pressure point (about half an inch from your belly button), then move your two fingers down to that area and firmly press into your abdomen. This works amazingly well!

The next pressure point for period pain is located in the meaty area between your thumb and forefinger. Use your other hand to firmly press the area. Although it’s a pressure point meant to alleviate pain, this area should actually hurt when you press it—that way you know you’re getting the right area. At least your abdominal cramps won’t hurt anymore!

evening primrose seeds were chewed by Native American women to for pms relief, especially for menstrual cramps. Today, we can find them in caplet form. Take one caplet of evening primrose everyday and increase to three caplets when menstrual cramps hit.

3. Eat smaller meals: eating six smaller meals spaced throughout the day can do wonders for your menstrual migraines and pains. Make sure you eat complex carbohydrate foods and stay away from simple sugars, fats and processed carbs. Drink a LOT of water, too! This will help replenish the fluids that your body is retaining

4. Multivitamin: take one.

5. Just apply heat: take a hot water bottle and place on your stomach as you lie down in bed. If you’re sitting at a desk, fill your mug with warm water and run it across your belly.

6. Regular exercise: try to get out and exercise three times a week for 20-30 minutes. This boosts your endorphins and improves your blood circulation.

7. MASSAGE Therapy:   a couple of small studies suggest that massage can help relieve the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). One reason massage might help PMS is that stress appears to worsen these symptoms, and massage can calm the body's reaction to stress. Women who participated in a survey published in the February 22, 1989, New Zealand Medical Journal reported that massage was the most helpful treatment they had found for their PMS symptoms short of prescription drugs.

Researchers at the University of Miami, Fla., set out to determine just how effective massage might be for PMS by dividing 24 women with severe symptoms into two groups. Massage therapists stroked and kneaded the women in the first group from head to toe for half an hour, twice a week. The women in the second group practiced relaxing their own muscles for the same amount of time.

Regardless of whether they practiced relaxation or got a massage, all the women reported feeling better after each session. But at the end of five weeks, the women who received massage therapy reported significantly less pain and bloating than they had at the beginning, while the women who practiced relaxation did not.

Oh well, I am going to go again to a aqua class tomorrow morning before my first client ... there are other instructors and she may have just been having an extremely bad hair day.

My blood sugar before the workout: 157.  Didn't eat. After the workout: 193. Up 40 points with the activity.  But later in the day, it should go down I would think.

We are going on the lake with some friends tomorrow afternoon/evening in their boat. I am looking forward to it, it should be great fun. Their boat is a 40 foot cabin cruiser. Sweet. We are taking the boat to a restaurant ... not sure which one.. I think its Breezes. Not sure tho..will have to get backatcha 'bout that. We have taken the boat to a place called Big Creek. Oh my do they make the best wedge salad. Something so simple and it is divine. :)

Love and Laughter,

Dawn
