Entry 33. Fire Of Glory VS Stand By Me (Part 2)

And continuing on from entry 32 - here is the scene from Stand By Me that inspired the section below from chapter 42 of Fire Of Glory.

I only realised today that I'm the one playing the FoG role of Lard Ass.

Tee hee... Oh well. :)

"Okay, you all know the rules. This is a NU-NH contest, no hands or forks allowed - 'kay?"

He took out a whistle. "Oh my mark..."

"Three... Two... One..." He blew it hard, and everyone set off.

SPLAT! LuigiGirl buried her face into the pie below her.

Everyone else did likewise, forgetting all possible table-manners, munching like pigs that’d just finished dieting.

Dixie was the first to finish hers first. "Done!" She called, and a Koopa threw another pie down onto the table in front of her.

"Done!" Andrew called, only seconds after Dixie.

"Done!" LuigiGirl called afterwards, as another pie was set in front of her.

A few moments later, everyone was onto their third pies, their faces covered with thick berry-filling.

"Good, huh?" Dixie asked, in-between mouthfuls.

"Nothin' better!" LuigiGirl exclaimed.

"Done!" Dixie announced, onto her fourth.

Andrew glared at her, plunging his face right into the centre of his pie, almost swallowing the whole contents of the dish in one go. "Done!"

"Done!" LuigiGirl called afterwards.

The contest ran steady for the next several minutes, Dixie leading with nine pies, Andrew on seven, LuigiGirl on six, Mack, Donovan, Edward and Zed on five.

"Take it easy Dixie!" Koopinator warned.

"Done!" LuigiGirl called. "He's right, take it easy, eh?" She said, before yet another pie was set in front of her.

Dixie ignored them both. "Done!" She yelled, before shoving her face into her tenth pie.

A few moments later, she began choking, coughing and spluttering loudly.

She grabbed her glass, and chugged the whole pint of 'water' down in one go.

LuigiGirl raised her head, glancing awkwardly at her partner. "Done!" She called. "Geez, we told ya to-"

Dixie stopped, bringing her head up.

"Oh..." She groaned, clutching her stomach. "Suddenly I... I don't feel so good..."

"Are you okay?" LuigiGirl asked, beginning to slightly panic.

Dixie slowly stood up from her chair, her stomach growling rabidly, like a wild dog.

Andrew pulled his head free from his ninth pie.

"Hey-hey, what's up? Has poor little Dixie got a tummy ache? Pah, you'll never make it as far as me!" He mocked.

"Keep eatin' those pies, Bandwidth! It was great to have you quiet for more than three seconds!" LuigiGirl growled.

"Pah." Andrew said again, sneering at Dixie. "She's a wuss, never will beat the almighty Bandwidth at eating contests!"

"Andrew..." Dixie coughed. "You better shut up... Or I'll-"

Dixie gasped, her eyes rolling backwards in fear.

She opened her mouth to finish her sentence - but a cascading waterfall of purple vomit erupted from her throat, tumbling from her mouth, and drenching Andrew in a purple sticky mess.

Dixie didn't stop, she continued breathing fire for around two minutes - by this time, Andrew had almost drowned in the purple sea, and the floor had somehow flooded too.

Dixie coughed hard, before closing her eyes, and tumbling backwards, landing with a hard thump on the floor.

The Best Foods (#2) - Blueberries

Second in the Best Foods in my list are Berries.

Antioxidants help to protect the body from the damaging effects of free radicals & chronic diseases related with aging process. Lots of fresh fruits / vegetables contain the Vitamin C & are rich in antioxidants. Blueberries are one of the best out of them. They are rich in fiber too. It is a low calorie fruit, rich in nutrients.

Latest studies show that  consumption of Blueberries may improve motor skills and age related memory loss.

There are two blueberry seasons in oregon I am told. All summer then again in October. Which is good because in the summer I reveled in the berries promising to put some aside  but being the grasshopper or is it the ant who saved things? But I was the consumer not the stocker and so this winter I will  not have the cache of blueberries I imagined, So many people warn me about the winter months. Firewood is being delivered to day and my fireplaces are cleaned and ready for heating. And luckily the south facing abundant windows and the excessive lighting which by winter I may fully understand may  keep the grayness away. The studio has no heat despite a remnant thermostat on the wall and the cadet heater in the bathroom doesn’t appear to be working, a thing that may bother jim more than me. I am already sleeping in socks with abi on my feet for extra warmth.

Her lip is less swollen but not entirely cured and I am not sure that I can endure her reaction to more cortisone. But back to berries. Or winter or the concept of preparing for the future. Something I did far too much in Alabama but want to abandon here. And I mean that in a good way, so much psychic time was spent anticipating the future and who would react and how things would look that I seldom stayed in the moment … unless depressed which is a very intense in the moment state. But here it is much more a day at a time thing, in the best of ways. Singing one moment, engaged in a chore the next. Jim said something about ”if” we had to move to assisted living and I thought that’s why we have slogged through  life … to assist the other and I intend to go no where that involved strangers taking me to the bathroom or feeding me soft foods. Even it is IS mashed berries. So buying firewood and hiring a closet designer is as much future planning as I can handle and once I get over the anger and frustration of losing 13 years of my life to the hell called Dixie, maybe I can move forward. Internally I am the eternal jack benny… 39. But I digress. Berries winter jim snuggles abi’s health, intro to Buddhism and PCC pink walls and how to ship swags and jabots because people are too cloddish to understand that one can never argue in a pink room. And wishing it would get REALLY rainy soon because then neill  will come indoors and finish my cabinets. Okay I am not in the moment.  I still have a subconscious and early woody allen movies  are for the young, except for the cross dressing scene with Lou Jacobi and the sheep eyes of a constrained gene wilder.  Al Pacino on the actors studio was very busy acting, such a disappointment. Will someone be the devil’s advocate and help me out here? I am dying.

(no subject)

I'm gearing up for the new week.  I have my assignments almost done for Monday night, however, I have to work all day tomorrow and most of the day monday before they are due.  I have a chart on the fridge with all the projects listed that I need to work on.  They must all be done, asap, so this way the family can see what I need to do every day and what I've been able to get done already.  I'll take the adoption papers with me to work tomorrow so I can get the kids signatures on all the papers, and see what else I need to collect, I hope to get the application mailed off by Wed. this week.  I also need to collect financial papers this week, and photo copy vbs stuff, make phone calls for vbs and get parts assigned.  VBS is in 17 days.

I"m working hard through everything else to get my Mary Kay business off the ground.  It's going slowly because I'm having a hard time carving time out of my day to actually work it.  And we all know that if you don't put time into an endeavor that you wont make money that way.  Take a moment and visit my web site at www.marykay.com/mischelle

I'm planning for blueberries and peaches now too.  I want to make 12 pints of blueberry jam and 12 pints of peach jam, I want to can 100 qts of peaches, and will freeze alot of blueberries.  we will be getting 30 lbs of blueberries and 5 bushel of peaches.  Looks like I have some late nights coming up.  Blueberries arrive in 9 days and peaches in 13 days.  Fun, fun, fun, but I can't wait for the fresh fruit.
